Terrifying façade,
long and tall, overpowering
but frail.
Ready to crumble and fall.

Snide wire intertwined,
exit wounds in the concrete flesh.
Each thorn stood to attention,
unwelcoming guards of the now unwanted.

Block after block
of relentless alleyways,
like a labyrinth of colossal gravestones.
The sky opens.

Water rattles bullet-like,
upon the once majestic city walls.
The cathedral moans its last hymn
as the steeple betrays itself.

The descent prevails.

Playing outside
Do kids still do this?
Breathing fresh air
Getting scrapes
Bee stings
What happened?
Texting
Games
Facebook
These have taken over
We hooked cups to strings
Made our own games
Our social network was our neighborhood
To go back to those days
Get the band aids ready
Get your sunscreen out
Lets go out and play
Fresh air
Sun shining
You dont have to buy a game
Combine things
Baseball with a football
Trampoline dodgeball
Sockball
Those were the days
So, lets go out and play
And enjoy the easy things in life

The creatures came out of nowhere
Their faces horrid
The natives lived in fear
For the creatures knew only one thing
Destruction
ALL THINGS MUST GO!
The creatures wander around
Replacing the natives with stone and metal
The natives want to run
They cant
Fear stricken
Frozen in place
The creatures are here
Destroy, destroy, destroy
The creatures are here
Their faces horrid
Two eyes the size of quarters
A nose
A mouth
The natives live in fear
The creatures fill the air with toxic gas
The creatures fill the ground with poison
The creatures take over
Creating things to destroy others
The circle goes on
The natives live in fear
The creatures create to destroy
Create, destroy
Create, Destroy
Destroy, destroy, destroy
The creatures go by many names
The creatures go by one name
They go by the name Human
The natives fear the Human
The natives cant move
For their roots are deep
Deep in the ground
They get destroyed
Petal by petal
Leaf by leaf
They get destroyed
The creatures have gotten taken over.

The people remain silent
Piercing stares
"What have I done?"
This was neither the high road
Nor was it the low road
For I took the wrong road
The metal and plastic hit the floor
Clank
The pool gets larger
"Who was he?"
His children will be weeping
His wife will break down
What will come of them?
What will come of me?
Alas, I did this of my own free will
The people remain silent
Time slows
Recollections
Recollections of the bad things
Recollections of the good things
These things I will never have again
For I avoided the high road
Bypassed the low road
And I took the wrong road
The puddle grows
My eyes water up
Tears flow
"What have I done?"
The people remain silent.
My compass has no arrow, no markings north or south
I've a map without a key, with markings I can't read.
Maybe a friend would do, someone to share my doubt
A soul-mate of some sort, with a knack for topography
I dream of her, beaming radiant smile
Eyes so bright, face full of life
But it's naught more than a faint fleeting flash
Of fantasies in my head that taunt and tease
Hopes and dreams of when there was a chance
Are now gone as an evanescent dalliance
These foolish flimsy thoughts seep like sewage
Polluting what was youthful optimism
From vivid imagination to dull ruin
So I brood my path
The conflation of desire and reality
But now I realize,
This map makes a bit more sense to me.

HEK
Here is a truth:

We may draw lines around a thing,
but they will never be more
than tricks of the eye.

The shapes of things are blurred
and shift too often
to properly map.

Relax.

Rules and nomenclature
ain't no fun, and
bean counting leads to
indigestion.
Still a little silly. Oh well.
