A Nations Loss

All they have now are the memories
Of their child lost in war
Knowing that a love once held
Will not be walking through the door

He had fought and died with honor
In a war so far away
Now on a bended knee a soldier
Presents them with a flag

The cracking echoes of the rifles
The bugles sounding that he served
A reminder that their child was brave
And this medal he deserved

Each day they read his letters
With new tears now in their eyes
Praying for just one more day
Knowing he did not survive

All they have now are the memories
Of their child lost in war
Knowing that a love once held
Will not be walking through the door

Although we honor our fallen as best we can it never can be enough. The echo of a 21 gun salute, the sound of the bugals, the presentation on bended knee of the flag and a letter from the president or commander will  never relieve the true loss felt in the hearts of parents and loved ones. I give so much thanks to those who fight and the families of those who have lost.
Focus
(A Friends Challenge)

Focus on the good things
That happen every day
Don't just see the bad things
And think that it's okay

Talk about a life well lived
The compassion someone showed
A moment of forgiveness
That touched someone you know

There are people all around us
Who lend a helping hand
That will give the shirt off their back
To help their fellow man

So many who are out there
That answer to the call
Each day they do amazing things
Wanting no reward at all

So focus on the good things
That happen every day
See all the things around you
That make this world a better place

Focus

A friend's challenge to bring attention to the fact that all we hear about is the negative on the news each day. He said there are so many good things but you never hear of them.  Wanted me to write a poem reminding people that there is still a lot of good out there and it is not all gloom and doom. Look around daily and focus on the possitive instead of just hearing and seeing all the negative.
No Mortgage Will Be Due
(A happy poem)

Today I fulfilled a lifelong dream
That I wanted to share with you
I wrote a check and bought a house
No mortgage will be due

I had to work for what I want
Had hard times along the way
But knowing that each step I took
Would get me to this day

I did not spend all I have
On this house I will call home
I put some back for a rainy days
To help others who I know

I will share this home with my son
And one day will pass it on
So that he can give the gift of love
Like he gave me when he was born

So today I fulfilled a lifelong dream
That I wanted to share with you
I wrote a check and bought a house

No mortgage will be due

Just a happy poem from me to get the feeling out. These poems we write sometimes are not all lessons learned or touch your heart and make you cry poems. Some are just simply made to invite you to share a life journey. This is one of those.  I am inviting you to share with me this step in my life. Thank you for reading.
The Love Of Poetry

We consider ourselves writers
Painting pictures with our words
So others have a chance to view
A message that needs heard

We hope that we are givers
Of wonders never seen
That each new verse that we write
It is something someone needs

We try to make a difference
Give a different point of view
Hope that they will understand
Maybe change a life or two

I call myself a poet
And I do all the things above
Although I do this for myself
I also do it out of love

Don't Let Go

We listen to the evening news
Hear things we can't believe
Get up and change the channel
And pretend we didn't see

The events unfold around us
And we lock ourselves inside
Thinking that behind closed doors
It won't effect our lives

We watch as others struggle
And turn the other way
Tell ourselves someone else
Will come and save the day

Just when did we stop caring
No longer lend a hand
Forget to show compassion
The love for fellow man

What happened to forgiveness
Where did the pride of giving go
We must find a way to turn back time
And make sure we don't let go

Don't Let Go

If you like add it to a couple of your collections.
Such A Lucky Man

I really just can't believe
Find it hard to understand
How a guy like me could ever be
Such a lucky man

The love I have from family
Loyal friends their by my side
Providing me what I need
To help me through my life

My son, my job a place called home
My faith in God above
A compassion held for others
A heart that's full of love

I really just can't believe
Find it hard to understand
How a guy like me could ever be
Such a lucky man

Just One Would Be Enough...LoL

If someone tries to take from me
What they don't deserve
I slap the crap out of them
And call it lesson learned

When a person does a crazy thing
And I can't believe my eyes
I can run them over
Say they deserved to die

I see a group of strangers
All doing the same dumb thing
I get to shoot them with a gun
Say it was meant to be

Slow drivers in the fast lane
Who think they own the road
I wreck their car into a ditch
And have a clear path home

Teenagers who won't listen
Who think they know it all
They get strangled with my hand
With no regrets at all

Some days I wish that I could do
All the things above
But Knowing that I really can't
Just one would be enough...LOL
