The Power Of A Whisper

A whisper makes you listen
It can stop you in your tracks
Can gives words different meaning
Create memories that will last

Whispers cause new feelings
They can change a point of view
Will help to stop the anger
When someone's mad at you

A whisper gives true comfort
Allows a calming peace within
If you listen very closely
You'll hear a whisper in the wind

A whisper sometimes can be heard
From way across a room
To feel the power of a whisper
Just whisper I Love You

Whisper

They See A Different Me

I know it's just the outer shell
That other people see
Not knowing who I am inside
They see a different me

They think they know who I am
And how I will react
Only see what they want
Not gather all the facts

They will not ever question
Can't bare to know the truth
Think they have the answer
To why I act the way I do

They do not know how I feel
Not exactly where I stand
What it is that I believe
Or who I really am

I know it's just the outer shell
That other people see
Not knowing who I am inside
They see a different me

The sadness in your eyes

I see you on the corner
As traffic passes by
I watch as people never see
The sadness in your eyes

They all walk past pretending
That you do not exist
They will not see the sorrow
Or the life that you must live

I see you on the corner
As you hold your cardboard sign
Hoping that just one may read
And understand your life

You do not bother others
You sit there in your place
With a cup that reads spare a dime
And sadness on your face

I see you on the corner
As the traffic passes by
I watch as people never see
The sadness in your eyes

I see you on the corner

The Age Around My Eyes

I know there's age around my eyes
And grey runs through my hair
But I'd love to spend my life with you
And always have you near

I want to hold you in my arms
And kiss you every night
Show you what it means to love
Let you feel love deep inside

As my skin begins to age with time
And my vision slowly fades
I will use the memory of our love
To guide me through each day

Time has helped me understand
The true beauty of your soul
The love you shared has filled my heart
And made my life more whole

I know there's age around my eyes
And grey runs through my hair
But I'd love to spend my life with you
If you will have me there

My first poem of 2014. A childhood friend and continued great friend of mine,  Bob Browning gave me the idea for this poem and told me to run with it. This is what I came up with.

(Happy New Year)

Excited for this year to come
For it gives me something new
A chance to now move forward
To make my dreams come true

As the year it now starts over
I can look back on the past
Remember all the days gone by
With memories that will last

I will let excitement fill the air
Not knowing whats in store
Planning for the year ahead
New beginnings to explore

With this new year I promise
To make a fresh new start
Find true love and meaning
And give someone my heart

Excited for the year to come
For it gives me something new
A chance to now move forward
To make my dreams come true*

Christmas Workers, To Place Your Mind Ease

There are some who work on Christmas
Protecting those in need
To give the gift of comfort
And place your mind at ease

Policemen who patrol the streets
Responding to your calls
Fire and Medics always there
Helping one and all

The nurse who gives out comfort
Who tries so hard to heal
A doctor there to fix whats wrong
To ask you how you feel

The dispatcber who is ready
To send whats needed most
The soldiers standing straight and strong
To honor at all costs

There are some who work on Christmas
Protecting those in need
To give a gift of comfort
And place your mind as ease

Poem by: Carl Joseph Roberts (Joe)

Take a moment to thank a Christmas worker
As I work on Christmas day and volunteered to do it...lol. Why, why, why after 25 years do I volunteer to work this day..... It has become a tradition I guess.
Don't Drink The Kool-Aid

Don't drink the Kool-Aid
That's a phrase you'll sometimes hear
It means don't believe every word
And don't live your life in fear

Don't walk around with blinders
Try to see the other side
You can listen to what others say
But make up your own mind

You do not have to follow
When someone makes a stand
There are many different points of view
Each side must get a chance

Your opinion may just matter
To no one else but you
The experience of a persons life
Creates their point of view

So don't drink the Kool-Aid
You can't believe all that you hear
Dont trust someone blindly
And don't live your life in fear

Don't drink the Kool-Aid

For all the younger poets who may not know this. The phrase Don't drink the Kool-Aid was started because of the November 18, 1978 massacre when 918  people who were followers of preacher Jim Jones who while at a religious compound in Guyana drank Kool-Aid or a flovored drink laced with cyanide. It is believed that for many of these followers the drinking of this poison was voluntary.  Followers believed this one man so much that they were willing to give their own children poison. Since then this phrase has gained acceptance as meaning dont follow blindly.
