(American Football)

It's gametime, both men and boys
Time to throw the ball
Score the winning touchdown
And be the kings of fall

Man on man all hitting hard
Till the final second ends
All to play just the game
And to celebrate with friends

We run the ball down the field
Until that final play
We throw the ball on fourth and goal
And wait for what we crave

We  listen to the fans all scream
And we get to spike the ball
Knowing that we just helped win
The greatest game of all

Football, college or pro I never seem to get enough of it.
Closure

I feel a difference inside my soul
A calming peace within
Knowing I can now let go
And begin my life again

No longer will I waist my days
And try to change your heart
I will not long for your touch
I now make a brand new start

I give myself to me alone
And start my life out new
Begin to love a different way
And release my heart from you

The love we shared is in the past
A memory filled with tears
A new journey on a different path
I begin without you here

I feel a difference inside my soul
A calming peace within
Knowing I can now let go
And begin my life again

Written as I watch those going into and out of Domestic Relations court. Seeing at times a reliefe on a face after being divorced. A love once there no longer but a new day can begin. Please know that new love, new friends and a new life can happen if you look at life differently after divorce.
Only In a Dream

I see an empty place beside me
As I close my eyes to dream
Knowing when I drift away
You will still be here with me

I'll see your smile and hear your voice
Feel a love that we once shared
And all the pain of missing you
Will seem to somehow disappear

I'll realize only when I wake
That it was just a dream
Then try to close my eyes again
And pray you're still with me

Each new morning as I rise
I see that you're not here
I must wait until the evening comes
To show you how I care

A new evening comes, I drift to sleep
And I feel you next to me
Holding hands as we share our lives
But it's only in a dream

Never Far Away

I wonder what he would say
If he were sitting here today
Would he tell me all the things he's seen
Would he say it was okay

Would we talk about the past we shared
Or of what the future holds
Will he give a glimpse of what's in store
And say he's met the Lord

Will he know how much I miss him
And miss the friendship that he gave
Tell me that although he's gone
He's now in a better place

Will we sit and talk for hours
Maybe write a poem or two
Will he play guitar and sing his songs
And say this one's for you

Will he tell me that he cant stay long
But his journey did not end
That he looks down from up above
To guide me as a friend

Will he say he knows I look for him
He hears the prayers that I say
That he will always be my friend
And he is never far away

In loving honor

This poem written in tears for an old friend of mine who I owe so much. Edward M Dixon, we were friends at a young age and he is so missed. He has written several poems and songs and had an incredible musical talent and voice. I look forward to one day seeing him again and just sitting and listening to him sing. I miss you my friend.
The Golden Rule

When someone shows a weakness
That's when you know to pounce
Take from them what they have
No worries for someone else

If you don't take it, someone will
That's what you tell yourself
In order to move ahead in life
You must leave your feelings out

Pull the trigger and smile at them
Look straight into their eyes
Tell them that there is no risk
Don't worry that it's a lie

If they loose it all, well you got yours
So just do what you must do
It's not your fault that they're not smart
Or that they put their trust in you

It seems so easy to take from them
But you're really taking from yourself
There may come a time when you're in need
And the cat becomes the mouse

Just Give them what they need the most
And dont take what is not yours
Do what's right, like your mother said
And you will get that big reward

Offer to help if they're in need
And lend them a hand or two
For what you do unto others you will see
Others will do unto you

Dont Slip

When you find that someone special
You want to hold them really tight
You dont want them to slip away
And be missing from your life

You hope they see inside of you
Know the feelings that you have
So that they can truly understand
And send those feelings back

You want to show them kindness
Whats inside the inner you
Wrap your arms around them
And hold them close to you

You can show them that they're special
But you should not hold to tight
You must trust that they wont slip away
You wont loose them from your life

When you freely give your love to them
Their love can freely be returned
They can choose to show you how they feel
And not worry or be concerned

If in fear you hold to tight
Love will slip away to soon
But if your love is built on trust
Then that love you share is true

Honored Man

A man who seemed so big
Yet would give the world to me
With hands made of stone
A life that you should know

He was a old time Cop you see
A Sergeant that walked the streets
In a time when cops just knew
How to enforced a law or two

A soldier in several wars
Americas worth fighting for
Those words I heard him say
When asked about those days

He was a prisoner of the war
But he would not say much more
We knew they tortured him
But they say he never gave in

At home he started hard
Drinking at every bar
But a family he still raised
Thats how it was those days

Then one day he just slowed down
And he put the bottle down
He became the man I knew
And tought me a thing or two

He was married for 50 years
To a woman he loved so dear
Till one day she left his side
To go to a better life

My grandfather was a gentle man
So calm when he held my hand
He gave so much in life
And he taught me how to write

This Cross for him
If you are a follower of my poems and like many that you read, please know it is because of my grandfather that I write. My grandfather shared with me his love for poetry and allowed me to read his poetry books. It was from his love that I took up writing and it is in his honor that I put down my words for all to read.
