You bought me cacti one day
and told me it would be a symbol of our love,
withstanding every harsh environment
unlike the fragile roses which wilted within the week.
I never told you though,
that I ****** at keeping plants -
I either watered too much or too little.
In less than a year, the cacti were dead
and along with them,
your love for me.
Some things change
One thing I thought
    was so painful
thought I could never
  move on
    thought that
heartache would always
feel the same
thought I would always
  feel that pain
Now I wonder....
   Do I wanna lose that
       pain?

From the hill-top, I can see everything:
rocky outcrops, stone wall-divided fields,
impatient streams eager to join mother river in the valley.
I graciously declare the scene satisfactory.

When I get home, it is nearing time for the evening meal.
Ruth is making apple pie, Maeve is talking politics (again!).
The grandchildren are running from room to room.

Shush, Maeve; listen to the earth breathe.
Don't fuss, Ruth — I'm just pleasantly tired.

Contentment, like an affectionate pet, is nuzzling into me.

I've already forgotten
the way my name
sat in your mouth
and rolled off your tongue.
Did you die inside?
Did you cry?
When she spit in your face,
And told to never come to her place,
Did it hurt to watch her flirt with all those guys.
They say she turned wicked,
When she heard you cheated.
Everything you put her through,
She didn't even have a clue.
But what was worse,
You made her curse.
All those things you said,
The thoughts you drilled in her head.
She went mad,
Dated this  guy I think his name is chad.
He thinks he's a ****,
Because he sells drugs.
And she's ill from,
From all the ******* pills.
You saying it was her fault,
Was a ******* insult.
Anymore me and her don't talk much,
but the other day we had lunch.
Now she's working the streets,
Just to make ends meat.
Has a cute little baby,
His name is davie.
Chad left,
Cause davie is actually deaf.

My braided faded bracelet
Is hidden in a box
Always there to remind me
Of something that I lost

My braided faded bracelet
The colors now so light
I found they weren't long lasting
Just like my feelings that blurry night

My braided faded bracelet
Came from a man
That I barely knew
But that might've been the plan

My braided faded bracelet
From that man, he knew
That I wasn't ready
Even though I wanted to

My braided faded bracelet
What it means they'll never know
Because I know what they will say
They'll say I told you so

My braided faded bracelet
A sign I'm one with the rest
Heard your first is never good but I
Thought I'd be different
You look at me with a careless ease

a look of something like a lover

“Find yourself in me,” you say

why don’t you find yourself another?
yes, I say, sing your
song of normal, and tell
that to the young
woman, small and
narrow, almost fragile

with the red x marks
drawn across her pale
white skin

who’s afraid to tell
because you might run
away, and all she needs
is someone to be there
in the dark lonely hours
of the night, when
all of the tiny voices

gain strength and learn
power over you

when everything inside
you cries to be released
to see the light of day
to be judged and found
forgiven

and the night cries
a low long howl, a
train across the tracks
in the dark shadow of
earth

and we laugh and cry
and I fall
and I fall
and I fall

and all the world spins
like a top on the grimy kitchen
floor, tracing spirals through
dusty time as I sink
through the hours
of another night spent

Our bodies fit together perfectly,
intertwined in the sheets,
warm and graceful.

heavy breathing,
slow caring movements,
being careful,
but not too careful.

the feeling is powerful,
writhing,
not with pain,
but pleasure.

then,
your heart stops,
the moment is over,
your body relaxes,
still intertwined and blissful.
