He knew what he wanted to say to her,
He knew what he wanted to do,
He’d step right up to her open door
And he’d quickly say, ‘We’re through!’
Her eyes would show she was startled then,
He thought that her jaw would drop,
But he would turn, walk swiftly away,
And leave with his head held up.

He’d seen her walking out in the park
And he thought he’d seen them kiss,
While he’d been walking there in the dark
With his Mathematics Miss.
She’d flagged him down, and said that his work
Was poor, that he had to choose,
Whether to chase that silly girl or
Square the hypotenuse.

All that she wanted to talk was sine
And something she said was tan,
She’d filled his head up with algebra
But seemed to depress the man.
She’d put her arm round his shoulders then
And said she would help him through,
‘All that you need is a little work
And you’ll be so pleased when you do!’

While Sally had seen her cousin there
Skipped up to him in the dark,
‘Fancy me seeing you way out here
At night, in the Bowling Park!
I thought you were still in Africa
But happen on you, like this!’
Then threw her arms up around his neck
And gave him a cousinly kiss.

They parted then and she turned away
And she saw a sight in the dark,
It looked like Jim, it was surely him
With a woman, there in the park.
She had her arm round his shoulders, they
Looked cosy, walking away,
She bit her lip and her mind went flip
As her world turned bleak and grey.

She knew what she wanted to say to him,
She knew what she wanted to do,
She’d step right up to his open door
And she’d quickly say, ‘We’re through!’
His eyes would show he was startled then,
She thought that his jaw would drop,
But she would turn, walk swiftly away,
And leave with her head held up.

I told paul that
i am convinced
everybody is conquering
the world while I am just
sitting in this town full of
old angry white people
growing smaller by the
minute. There is either a
light too bright about to
henceforth burst out or
i am just simmering down
to a low boil destined to be
only half as special as what
every boyfriend has ever
deemed me.

Paul said a lot of things about
"my own journey", terribly cliche
things about success and happiness
but one statement that struck the
right chord

Aren't you realizing the good you're doing for yourself?

Something I could understand. Yes, I realized this.
but that didn't change the fact that the good I was
doing for myself seemed so utterly boring in comparison.

Behind Sister Bridget's
black habited back
one legged Anne

gave her a one fingered
up you sign
the nun unaware

walked on down
the lush green lawn
the girl with burn scars

on her arm and leg
mouthed
I'm going to tell

but her wide eyed stare
betrayed
she never would

just a maybe
-if-I-had-the-nerve
gesture

hey Skinny kid
Anne said
in lowered voice

hand to the side
of her mouth
as she'd seen spies do

in war films
or on TV
how about we sneak

into town?
the Kid impassively
shrugged

his narrow shoulders
buy you some sweet
if you'll come?

that decided it
and he nodded
and as the nun

walked down the lawn
chatting to the other kids
who were convalescing

from sicknesses
or burns or accidents
Anne and the Kid

sneaked off back
towards the big house
now a nursing home

for children
she on her crutches
he following behind

looking back
towards the lawn
and once inside

they ventured out
the side door
along the path

by the hedge
and down the side road
that led into town

pass traffic
she crutched along
the Kid bringing up

the rear
her one leg treading
the paving

the stump swinging
silently
beneath her skirt

and the Kid
catching her up
walked beside her

and she said
got to get out
of that **** place

with all those
other kids
and those holy nuns

with their tall tales
and frustrated dreams
the Kid said nothing

he was thinking
of the night
she wanted him

to scrub her back
in the bath
or that other time

when he helped her
from her wheelchair
and accidentally

touched her tight ****
by mistake
and the WHAT THE ****

of her words
and the secret feel
had him wandering

outside
his safety zone
like a child at night

finding themselves
in the dark
all alone.
A one legged girl and her 11 year old friend in 1958 in a nursing home.

The time has come for you and I
To place our lives where time abides
Consider this my letting go
Of all the weight of 'I don't know'
I'm here right now because of you
And what our Love has put us through
My eyes behold you crystal clear
I hope eternally, my dear
And if I fall or slip away
Please take my hand just like today
We made a vow, each other's now
And all its grace will show us how
To keep our stride in perfect step
Forever waits, we've only met
for my best friend on her wedding day

If the love we cherish
should fall
on the wayside,
forget-me-not
If the ship we build
should sink
in deep blue
drown me with you
If the tree we grow
should tumble
plant me a new seed
And if all else
don't matter
between us anymore
don't despair
for life goes on
over hills and dales
over love cherished
over love lost
over love remembered
in a grain of sand.

Once and for all
Shall I call it a quit ? say " Thanks to all"
Life is not permanent after all
Let me sit and stare at my wall

What do I want, have I achieved?
Sticking my tongue out, I laugh in mischief
Can't just sit and stare at my wall
Help me please...once and for all...
