Angel's Rest
Arik Fletcher Mar 2013
He watches her sleep peacefully,
Her warm chest rise and fall,
Her kind heart beating rhythmically,
In answer to love’s call.

He thinks back to the darker days,
His cold and lonely youth,
His time spent in a silent daze,
Lost in depressing truth.

He dreamt of love and happiness,
A world where pain could end,
A life without the emptiness,
Where broken hearts can mend.

He looks back at this fragile form,
This angel in disguise,
This creature that could tame a storm,
With nothing but her eyes.

He curls up close beside her now,
To gently draw her near,
To feel her breath so soft and slow,
And drift in love so dear.

Like sunshine burning in your eyes,
whilst staring up into the skies,

Like raindrops beating at your skin,
whilst waiting for the band to sing,

Like soil filtered through your hand,
whilst working on a plot of land,

Like autumn wind run through your hair,
whilst walking through the fog with care,

Love is like these little things,
it takes your breath when it begins,

You never know when it will come,
so often missed and seldom won.

Dream Girl
Arik Fletcher Feb 2010
In the dream I had last night,
I saw an angel dressed in white,
Surrounded by a shining aura,
A-kin to that of the aurora,
She turned and stared, her gaze like fire,
Her eyes, they made my head perspire,
And as I stared into those eyes,
My heart, it leapt into the skies,
At last I felt alive, and whole,
For she had touched my very soul,
And then a spell, she cast upon me,
Binding me, her slave-to-be,
Not bound by body, nor by mind,
She bound my heart, on which she signed,
'We are one, now and forever,
From now on we'll be together'
So, a question for you now,
Who was the girl who made this vow?
The answer is, and this is true,
the girl I dreamt about is YOU.
And so a vow I make to you,
For that is all that I can do,
'I give to you my word and bond,
My love will last, now and beyond'
For my heart belongs to you,
Anything you say, I’ll do,
My love for you will last forever,
I hope one day we'll be together,
And so my love, my one and only,
Please don’t ever leave me lonely,
For now that I have you, my love,
My heart can reach the clouds above,
I’ll love you till the day I die,
For if I lost you, I would cry,
My life would have no worth at all,
My soaring heart would quickly fall,
For I was made to be with you,
And that’s a fact, I know is true,
For our love was meant to be,
One heart, one whole, just you and me,
Our love, the alpha and omega,
Our love, the perfect true-love saga,
One day I’ll be with you my love,
And then we’ll reach the clouds above.
This I swear, my solemn vow,
Alas it cannot happen now,
But for now, I give to you,
The gift of love, a love that’s true.
I give this gift to you in tears,
a gift to last you through the years,
for you and I are bound together,
a bond to last for now, forever!

Heartbeaten

Humanity is fractured,
Humanity is lost,
Humanity is all of us,
We all will pay the cost.

We're all a little different,
We're all a little weird,
We're all a little mixed up,
We're nothing to be feared.

There is no need for violence,
There is no need for hate,
There is no them or us now,
We all share the same fate.

The world, they say, is scary,
The world, they say, is scarred,
The world is out of order,
We've made it all too hard.

There is no true religion,
There is no higher law,
There is no cause for conflict,
We're human- nothing more.

This is our time to grow up,
This is our time to change,
This is our time to wake up,
We know it will be strange.

Let's put away our weapons,
Let's put to rest our fear,
Let's put the past behind us,
We'll not shed one more tear.

Soulseer
Arik Fletcher Oct 2013
He travelled far and journeyed wide,
To find those with a spark inside,
Each one a sacred gift of love,
A soul descended from above.

He found her in a dark despair,
Lost in a world with none to care,
Her bright eyes drowning in her tears,
This slave to weaker people's fears.

He told her that she held a spark,
A light to guide her through the dark,
This power she'd hid for too long,
The chorus to her siren's song.

He took her hand and held it tight,
To save her from the dark of night,
Their bond beyond all love and lust,
A sanctuary of hope and trust.

He watched her dream in silent sleep,
Her mind still gripped by pain so deep,
A broken doll so incomplete.
This fallen angel at his feet.

He took her from the world she knew,
Towards the dawn of life anew,
Another land beyond the stars,
To mend her wings and heal her scars.

He helped her grow across the years,
As slowly they allayed her fears,
Until she spread her wings at last,
And left her old life in the past.

Secret of the Soul
Arik Fletcher Jun 2013
They often said she had a soul much older than her years,
a force that dwelled within her heart that conquered all her fears,
a wise and gifted creature born of suffering and strife,
some noble fallen angel who had watched her all through life.

They often asked how she could paint the colours of the soul,
a talent that she never claimed was in her to control,
a simple canvas painted by her crude and untrained hand,
conveyed both thoughts and feelings the whole world could understand.

They often sought her guidance on their own attempts at art,
a task she felt unworthy of deep down inside her heart.
a challenge just to find the words each one would like to hear,
unable to relay her thoughts on all they held most dear,

They often found her hard to fathom when they came to meet,
a sense of something hidden in the shuffling of her feet,
a different personality to what they would expect,
but her work and reputation were enough for their respect.

They often thought about her when they looked at all she'd done,
a life spent in reflection in the shadow of the sun,
a stranger in the world though never far from any friend,
forever cloaked in mystery until the very end.

Wolves, we walk amongst the sheep,
Draped in smiles that hide our fangs,
Cloaked in manners and good deeds,
All to hide our hunger pangs,

Night, our home and natural realm,
Striving to be more than beast,
Keeping distance from the herd,
Deep in darkness where we feast,

Safe, we stay amongst our kin,
Sharing life with those who know,
Bonds that cross our mortal years,
Love that lasts and ever grows,

Truth, a dream we long to see,
Healing this most ancient scar,
Walking tall amongst the lambs,
Showing who we really are.

Smiles and laughter all around,
Tales of glories past abound,
Friendships lost are soon re-found,
Honoured ones have long been crowned,

Hugs and cameras at the call,
Food and drink flow free for all,
Though the snow will surely fall,
Still the party must enthral,

Wine and lager take their toll,
Soon they homeward-bound must roll,
Though time has been beyond control,
Their spirits high can never fall.

Love is far from magical,
A trick that can deceive,
But your love put a spell on me and helped me to believe.

Love is not a storybook,
There are no heroes here,
But your love saved me when we met and taught me not to fear.

Love is far from all we need,
It cannot save us all,
But your love is the only thing that keeps standing tall.

Love is not just beautiful,
It has a darker side,
But your love lights my life and always helps to turn the tide.

Love is far from perfect,
It will not solve poverty,
But your love makes me richer and is perfect just for me.

Love is not the answer,
There are puzzles far too great,
But your love is the answer to the search for my soul mate.

More than my place of birth,
I am more than my culture,
My species on this Earth.

I am more than my gender,
More than you may have heard,
I am more than a pronoun,
My *** is just a word.

I am more than a number,
More than a head to count,
I am more than a trophy,
My flesh not yours to mount.

I am a different person,
More than I was before,
I am my true reflection,
My secret life no more.

I am a phoenix rising,
More than the heart you spurned,

I am a different ending,

this love is like a burning flame,
a feeling of eternal pain,

a fire deep beneath my skin,
reminding me of this great sin,

I see the world with jaded eyes,
a curtain drawn across the skies,

I feel the wind rush through the trees,
as guilt now brings me to my knees,

forbidden love, as like the fruit,

My freedom taken from my hands,
redemption lost in time's great sands.

Out on our own and into the strife,
Out in the world in search of a home,
Out on our own but never alone,

Out with the old and in with the new,
Out of our depth but making it through,
Out in the light away from the dark,
Out of the void and making a mark,

Out of our home- descending to hell,
Out of our zone- our comforting shell,
Out in the dark away from the light,
Out of control and into the fight,

Out of the team that made it this far,
Out on our own with many a scar,
Out of the flames- no love left to burn,
Out for the count- no hope of return.

for his fangs are surely wet,
keep him in your corner,
as his plans are drawn and set.

Shadow guide the hunter,
for he lives to bring you life,
keep him safe in darkness,
as his soul is in his knife.

Shadow save the hunter,

keep him in your long embrace,
and death will be sublime.

Shadow take the hunter,

keep him with you ever more,
and make your dark hearts one.

Incomplete right from the start,
An empty space within each heart,
Two souls without some vital part,
Forever doomed to live apart.

Two shadows drifting through the years,
Both changing shapes and shifting gears,
Without true love to ease their fears,
Alone and lost inside their tears.

Until one day the story changed,
The pages turned and rearranged,
No longer were their hearts estranged,
Joined through these vows they have exchanged.

Complete at last and truly whole,
Two lives combined within each soul,
Their paths now shared in one patrol,
True love at last in their control.

Love Undone
Arik Fletcher Jan 2011
Once we shared a single heart,
Never dreamed we’d be apart,
Found all that we needed here,
Never felt the grip of fear,

Now we share these broken shards,
All this fighting on the cards,
Finding we have nothing left,
All our feelings long bereft,

Once we shared a single life,
Seldom grieved or wept in strife,
Found our days were full of light,
Seldom felt the cold of night,

Now we share this empty life,
Gone the days of man and wife,
Finding secrets in the lies,
Gone the love that glazed our eyes,

Once we shared a single thought,
Always made up when we fought,
Lost ourselves in each embrace,
Always felt there was no race,

Now we share no thoughts at all,
Nothing there to break our fall,
Losing what still kept us friends,
Nothing left when true love ends.

Gather round- dear friend and kin,
The day grows near- so close at hand,
A time of joy and love will reign,
Though nothing will go quite as planned.

Gather round and taste the wine,
The food piled high on tables set,
A time to laugh and sing along,
No pride to guard and no regret.

Gather round- dear special few,
The coals grow cold but not our hearts,
A time to share the glories past,
And dodge the rain that shortly starts.

Gather round for soon you'll go,
The day grows short and cold somehow,
A time to plan the next event,
And keep this moment here and now.

to one who loves with all his heart,
when true love bears the final cost,
and love once found is torn apart.

Love is lost and never found,

hearts when split can never cope,
without love, life must depart.

Pray your heart remains the same,

Wash away this mortal stain,
Leave me here alone again.

Step out of this cloud of hate,
Hide yourself in tears of fate,
Walk the path from Heaven's gate,
Leave before it is too late.

Step out of this lofty place,

worker ants we slave and toil,
ignorant of sky and soil,
lost in pointless task and deed,
wounded planet left to bleed,

hellish flame engulfs us all,
man and beast together fall,

empty lands of hope forlorn,
blackened soil of absent trees,
silent world no birds or bees,

wonders lost before their time,

savage man of modern days,

When she was young her heart was whole,
its strength and depth at her control,
to share it with those all around,
or save it for one to be found.

Then as a child her heart was split,
the pieces pulled with no remit,
mishapen, warped, beyond repair,
surrounded with self-centered 'care'.

This girl grew up a shy recluse,
her soul a slave to dark abuse,
ignored by most, a friend to few,
in need of love, but one so true,

no trust or friendship in her life,
save for the cold kiss of her knife,
she drifts through life devoid of light,
a wraith, a shadow in the night,

her memories hint of happy times,
though life reminds her of its crimes,
no love without a price to pay,
no knight to take her far away,

when she was young her heart was pure,
her mind was set, her stance was sure,
no thoughts of hate lived in her mind,
no fear of love left far behind,

this child now grown, alone and scared,
a life from which she'll not be spared,
her dreams of love forgotten now,

Tides
Arik Fletcher Feb 2010
If only I could touch your face,
and tell you how you have hurt me,
to make our two souls one again,
restore what once was you and me.

A vampire's bite may sting and bleed,
but that's nothing to what you've done,
my heart broke into a million pieces,
why could you not leave it as one?

You gave me strength when I was weak,
but it was fake- though I believed,
no one can question what was done,
for it was me that you deceived.

Maybe someday I’ll forgive,
on the day this pain subsides,
I'll never stop my love for you,
although our love is like the tides,

It rises up and covers all,
then it sinks, beneath the shore,
I really hope we'll be together,
my love for you goes to the core.

All I hope is that you change,
for as you are, you make me cry,
for this is true, I swear it is,
I’ll love you till the day I die,

But love and like are different things,
I love you more than I can say,
but I don't like what you've become,
if you can change in that one way,

Then I could like you once again,
if that was done, I know we would,
be together once again,
I really do believe we could.

So, my love, I say once more,
change for me, and I’ll be yours once more,
the love we had was something special,
to be with you is what I long for.

the land is dark, all hope is lost,
our wondrous world, this war has cost,
devoid of human touch and love,
denied a place with god above,

our bodies trapped beneath the soil,
our souls enslaved to work and toil,
bound by chains we cannot see,
denied the right to be set free,

we exist without free will,
born without this wondrous skill,
we must live and never die,
denied the right to even cry,

perhaps one day an end will come,
freedom, if only for some,
to start again, this world of ours,
restore the water, trees, and flowers,

to regain all that we have lost,
for that we would pay any cost,
to live and love, to work and play,
to see the sun begin each day,

alas this dream will never be,
reality for all to see,
we shall remain eternal slaves,
to do that which our master craves,

all I pray is that this dream,
lives on and on, an endless stream,
within the hearts of everyone,
in case true justice can be done.

To live in this immoral time,
uncouth and plagued by wretched crime,

Despised by all with vicious scorn,
our monarch blind with love forlorn,

Restrained for faith and for belief,
suspicious minds impose this grief.

Man's Kind
Arik Fletcher Oct 2010
Ants- we work in endless toil,
Hurried feet across the soil,
Stopping just to procreate,
Then once more unto our fate,

Rats- we all live underground,
Scurried thoughts and whispered sound,
Surfacing for work and play,
Then back down come night or day.

Birds- we flock to distant lands,
Fluttered wings across the sands,
Making nests we hope will last,
Soon forgotten in our past,

Men- we take all that we see,
Muttered claims of destiny,
Building what we cannot grow,
Destroying all we do not know.

Hivemind

Words abound, my mind a-clutter,
Like a swarm, they buzz and flutter,

Catching each one as they land,
Holding them here in my hand,

Building chains to solve the maze,
Bound in ink to clear the haze,

Pages that I soon reveal,
All to tell you how I feel.

Tick,
the seconds passing by,

Lick,
his lips are feeling dry,

Crick,
his finger stiff with cold,

Click,
the shot is clean and bold,

Flick,
the gun is gone from sight,

Quick,
he fades into the night.

In the boldest stories of her time,
the sharpest memories of each crime,
lives all that one was farce and mime,
the shadows of a dream sublime.

In the oldest fragments of her life,
the deepest scars of bitter strife,
lurks all that once was man and wife,
the jealous cut of sorrow's knife.

In the coldest reaches of her mind,
the darkest places she can find,
lies all that she has left behind,
the pain inflicted by her kind.

Forever Darkly
Arik Fletcher Oct 2012
Though sunshine floats above her head and warms her loving kin,
this cold chill ever stays with her deep down beneath her skin,
their smiles and cheerful laughter seem beyond her mortal reach,
this darkness eating at her heart has harsher things to teach.

Though fate has often kept her from the hardships of her kind,
her path has long been plagued by tears for those she left behind,
the love she’s felt is transient and changes with the tide,
this fear however stays with her forever at her side.

Though stars have tried to light her way through all those lonely times,
the shadows still call out to her and panic ever climbs,
these thoughts are always present keeping her in their control,
this sorrow ever fills her mind and drains her weary soul.

Sojourn
Arik Fletcher Jan 2012
Walking down this path of hate,
A darkness that will not sedate,
This nightmare no one could create,
So far from that once peaceful state.

Now sinking in this sea of shame,
A cloud of hurt that has no name,
A coldness where there once was flame,
In feelings I can’t seem to tame.

Descending in my own despair,
This broken soul beyond repair,
My heart dissolves each thought and care,
To leave me with no love to spare.

So here I lay beyond remorse,
Where destiny has run its course,
My time to go back to the source,
Beyond all realms of human force.

Without You
Arik Fletcher Sep 2011
Stay calm and safe and in my sight,
You cannot leave my side tonight,
For without you I have no hope,
And here alone I cannot cope.

Stay soft and warm and in my heart,
We cannot fall or drift apart,
For without you there is no me,
And nothing left for us to be.

Stay young and strong and ever bright,
I cannot live without your light,
For without you there is no home,
And ever more my heart will roam.

When you can glimpse eternity,
You'll view each step so earnestly,
You'll walk your path less urgently,
Your journey through mortality,

When you can grasp your destiny,
You'll see your life in clarity,
You'll look back at your history,
Your story of obscurity,

When you can reach true ecstasy,
You'll find all truth from fallacy,
You'll give in to insanity,
Your escape from humanity.

Life Players
Arik Fletcher Oct 2012
The games we play ‘tween me and you,
defined by all we have been through,
our wants pervert each oath we make,
our needs defend each rule we break.

The nights we spend ‘tween me and you,
desired by all we thought we knew,
our bodies locked in dark embrace,
our hearts abandoned in disgrace.

The words we say ‘tween me and you,
defiled by all we feel and do,
our souls corrupted by each lie,
our dreams disrupted as we cry.

The life we share ‘tween me and you,
defaced by all we hang on to,
our bond nought but a fantasy,
our love nothing but fallacy.

Together as One
Arik Fletcher Jul 2011
Two souls entwined across the years,
Their smiles outweigh the count of tears,
Their strength combined against their fears,
Til doubt forever disappears.

Two lives now joined against it all,
Their hearts responding to love's call,
Though often backed against the wall,
They stand as one and never fall.

Two hands now linked for all to see,
To stand as one eternally,
Their shadows dance in ecstasy,
Towards the light of destiny.
