Past: I loved you yesterday,
in all the days before then,
way back to when I first
met you.

Present: I love you today,
more than I can ever say.

Future: tomorrow I will love
you. From here on, come
what may, our love will lead
us into and through every day.

There was no Goodbye
from you to me,
nor closing of eyes,
for they had never
opened for a first time.

Fatal foetal sleep took you
into an eternal dream
a state far more sublime.

No thanks for me
giving you a home,
providing food,
warmth and water,
sharing what I owned.

No matter:
I carried you
walked with you
talked to you
imagined a wee
fair hairy head.

You lived in me,
stayed with me.
I will remember
always the nice
things we did
together while
you lived.

You had to go
You won't return
But You left me
with a gift…
...The  Memories

And even though
it's not a lot
I'd like to
let you know
what sweet joy -
however brief -
it was having
You inside awhile.

I hope I was a good friend.

'Because I am mad about women
I am mad about the hills,'
Said that wild old wicked man
Who travels where God wills.
'Not to die on the straw at home.
Those hands to close these eyes,
That is all I ask, my dear,
From the old man in the skies.'
                Daybreak and a candle-end.

'Kind are all your words, my dear,
Do not the rest withhold.
Who can know the year, my dear,
when an old man's blood grows cold? '
I have what no young man can have
Because he loves too much.
Words I have that can pierce the heart,
But what can he do but touch?'
                Daybreak and a candle-end.

Then said she to that wild old man,
His stout stick under his hand,
'Love to give or to withhold
Is not at my command.
I gave it all to an older man:
That old man in the skies.
Hands that are busy with His beads
Can never close those eyes.'
                Daybreak and a candle-end.

'Go your ways, O go your ways,
I choose another mark,
Girls down on the seashore
Who understand the dark;
***** talk for the fishermen;
A dance for the fisher-lads;
When dark hangs upon the water
They turn down their beds.'
                Daybreak and a candle-end.

'A young man in the dark am I,
But a wild old man in the light,
That can make a cat laugh, or
Can touch by mother wit
Things hid in their marrow-bones
From time long passed away,
Hid from all those warty lads
That by their bodies lay.'
                Daybreak and a candle-end.

'All men live in suffering,
I know as few can know,
Whether they take the upper road
Or stay content on the low,
Rower bent in his row-boat
Or weaver bent at his loom,
Horseman ***** upon horseback
Or child hid in the womb.'
                Daybreak and a candle-end.

'That some stream of lightning
From the old man in the skies
Can burn out that suffering
No right-taught man denies.
But a coarse old man am I,
I choose the second-best,
I forget it all awhile
Upon a woman's breast.'
                Daybreak and a candle-end.

For the writer,
for the poet,
acts of love
fall short.
They know the
best way
to express
the words:
I love you,
is in print

I never understand
when girls say
they have lost
their virginity.
It's not like
it walked off
somewhere
and can
be found again.
But what's gone
is gone.

I could understand
if they said
that they had
given it away.
Or, that being
misled into bed
it was mislaid.

Now I know
first hand by
charm and chance,
it can be stolen.

Holding on to you
so tight - a dream.
Unable to part
with this love,
My joy is endless.

On life’s  path ahead,
all I can see is,
myself  with you.
Let  Winter winds
blow cold...

...come Spring
They’re old
and we are new.

Missing you:
knowing of
your  sensual
accomplishments,

Surely we will
become reunited,
until then
this  love
will grow
truly,
eternally.

Where does it go
that hour
when clocks
go back
or forward?

Does time stop
to welcome
Spring's return,
bidding the
Winter - farewell?

Or, pause
for  Summer's
lease to bring
in Autumn's
early eves?

No: sleep lost
or gained
holds secret
the time
and the hour.

Change as you
may the hands of
watch or clock:

falls unaltered.

To lie or not to lie? - that is the question:
tis never  nobler to belie the truth
nor ***** out its light in the dark,
and by so doing spark pain for pleasure.
Or, by opposing both affects quite end them
and by so doing gain unwanted reaction.
To lie, deceive - no more - and by a secret
code say what we want to say unvarnished
by pitting  truth against all lies
that fall from lips - 'tis an infection
to be avoided  by all. To lie, deceive
perhaps too much. Aye, there's the problem.
for in deceit what further hollow lies may come?
When we have caused such rank displeasure
from one perceived lie, must force us thought. That's the reality making chaos of such an error.
For who would hear or speak an ugly truth,
to cause a love go wrong to fiendish trash,
Why give them heart ache? Who would give them  hurt to bear as unwanted burdens?
But the chance they would enjoy the truth,
The unknown glee from fate's unlucky victims
For the victim's rebuff confuses the liar
So conscience makes the  liar want to speak truth thence rather see that redeeming reaction  Aye.
Thus turning dissembling into soothsaying
And then the addicting infection
is cured with the balm of truth,
so contagion seems less appealing
With this regard the suspected lies soon stop
And lose what effect they once had.

All night it beat upon the pane
the cold staccato clamour of the rain;
trickling footsteps pattered on the slates
chimneys shuddered soot into the grates.

Banshee winds about the gutters howled
that grinning orb the moon was cowled
by clashing clouds that fused and broke
with every clashing thunder stroke.

Flickering fingers flashing doom
outlined and probed each object in my room;
frail curtains writhed and frantic flapped
tossing over objects - tempest trapped.

Morning came, rain rinsed smelling sweet,
pavements glinted, drains laughed in the street;
trees gesticulated flinging off their jewels
pigeons sipped the sun from sky-paved pools.

Leafy robes slip down
limbs bend sighing in

Her skin is sylvan

his every intention

She is pliant in his

branches open wide

Reposed inside her bole he
feels her bend and sway
No storm can fell her.

Her roots spread deep
as deep as her love.

Two souls sundered
while coming to life:
formed as two bodies.
created as Twin Flames.
yet drifted apart,
still destined to meet.

Longing always:
feeling the torment
of separation.
Getting weaker
in time and distance.
Each passing second
incomplete without
the precious  Other.

Like a missing
piece of a puzzle
finally in place.
We meet
We merge
into One.
At last again
united - Forever

You are swimming,
breasting the waves
in a wild blue ocean.
I am an incoming tide,
foaming white, surging
into  underwater cleft
probing, lingering long,
holding on, bursting in.

Then ebbing quietly into night
into stars, into fleeting sparks
of myriad fire flies flitting
over moving silken surface,
itself a ghostly glow
of phosphorescence,
a transient trail
of luminescence that
fades to reappear as light
to penetrate deepest depths
of the  ever restless sea.
I surface and breathe into you.

Darlings All,

I am quite capable of writing

Happy Christmas!

Love and Friendship

LOVE is like the wild rose-briar;
Friendship like the holly-tree.
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms,
But which will bloom most constantly?

The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring,
Its summer blossoms scent the air;
Yet wait till winter comes again,
And who will call the wild-briar fair?

Then, scorn the silly rose-wreath now,
And deck thee with the holly's sheen,
That, when December blights thy brow,
He still may leave thy garland green.

Perhaps it is meant to be,
that I must bear alone as such,
all these blazing passions for thee.
Nevertheless, I know this much,
my true love for you will never die.

Beauty is never all physical
perfected it is quite mystical
also mental and emotional.
so let us see what lies beneath.

Come to me as evening falls
the voice of darkness calls
out to you my long awaited
guiding light of love.

Enfold me just as you are
at sundown, the first star
that glows for me all night.
By day, once more you are...

…. my sunshine bright.
This truth is in each of us,
let’s never let it go astray:
it is our path - marked in love
our hearts will point the way.

Swifts – Swallows:
joy of late Spring
flashed on their wings:
while a world moved
about their arrival
in slow motion.

Wild, restless, they
dip, weave,  dive
above fields, quarry,
over old hedges sun-
streaked, damp -
dappled. Summer-free.

Autumn: earth’s magnet drew
them away on African odyssey.
Our house was their house:
free-loading our welcome
they leave with their brood..
Will they ever return?

Surely, as instinct.
Now they have gone
desolate Winter fills
the hole those birds
have left in the sky.

To feel cool wind in her hair,
sun warmth on her face under
endless blue cloudless skies.
Sweet sounds of harp music
heaven-sent to her ears.
A book of romantic poems
to read back to her lover.
A pen ***** in her hand
ink charged before a clean
blank page eager for filling.

Sounds of a stream,
its tinkling melody
chasing a breeze,
through bent over trees.
A bed of scented Spring
grasses  beneath her.
The arms of the one
she loves around her...
...Petting. Eager, Teasing,
Pampering. Radiant. Ardent.
That is all she wants

With only these desires,
She will be content,
even when dreaming,

for resonant songs:
in languages tuned
from old notes.

greater and deeper

Truth to  Sincerity

Nothing in literature
can be compared
to poetry, other
than Beauty.
For, in a word,
Poetry is Perfection.

Tobias.
Poetry is Beauty. Beauty  is Truth. It's loveliness does not fade but increases.  It will never dissolve to nothingness. Look upon all beauty with love,  as if for the last time. All that lives must die - passing through life to eternity. Poetry endures.

Maybe a photo of her favourite corgis
Or, a foil-wrapped dog biscuit?
Surely, a collapsible crown.
A fold-up tiara  would be
more practical -  I guess.
Her Majesty loves horses, so a
carrot or two is de rigueur.
Spare ******  would not go amiss.
Emergency use false teeth? Possibly.
As much as one can surmise,
pearls would not surprise.
Predictably, a ready made speech
on neatly folded vellum  beginning
with the words: "My husband and I."

If I could be so bold – Ma'am -
I suggest a personal alarm.

I have tried to imagine my world without you:
summer swarming bees, distant Cotswold peaks
hidden in snow. The beauty of autumn mornings
along Blaisdon's remembered country roads;
a sunlit river Severn beyond Westbury, the
whirr of pheasants at spring midday and
the calling of owls towards midnight.

Now I know that none of it is the same
without you. But most of all I will never
forget your smile, your eyes your
gentleness and giving, your loyalty
and caring for old friends: *** Carter,
Frank and Elsie Hogg, in particular.
The memories we treasured, the
enjoyments we shared.

The love is forever there
despite time or distance -
clarified through tears.
So today I celebrate that
you existed; thanking
all of life for your life,
expressing my deepest
gratitude that out of
millions of people
and possibilities
our lives were destined
to be intermingled.

As in sorrow,  I mourn your passing,
I know clearly and forever my world
can never be the same: Without You.

How easy it is for me to say: -

to wish you a day full

from nearly enough.

I want your every day

I want you to feel how

I tried to be a man that's patient:
someone kind and calm,
open and understanding.
Someone who felt other’s pain
who didn't let it turn him cold.

You see, their lack of trust
wasn't entirely their fault...
they grew up stunted:
watching their father
abuse their mother.

Or, in his absence they grew up
without him ever there:
erratic, extreme emotions;
thunderclouds of anger,
thus implanted self-hatred.

Then he would return, amusing,
funny - the centre of attention.
Other times he was miserable
or an erratic, manic-obsessive,
a hopeless compulsive mess.

Their mothers stayed quiet
took the lashings, the outbursts
to keep the fragile peace,
while they internalising them,
kept feeling it was their fault.

Innocent, naive, hurt, numb
always feeling like a stranger.
Home?  a war zone where
words were irrational, erratic
weapons of mass destruction.

They learned to hurt others
to protect themselves.
They witnessed human weakness;
the unreliable became friends,
the consistent the enemy.

They grew shy and reserved
couldn't stand the spotlight
their skins  made them anomalies
spectacles, defectives, tattooed
victims with emotional scars.

Rejected by the outside,
no place to call a home
let alone a safe haven.
They numbed every inch of pain,
outcasts. Or so they  thought.

Once in a while their anger
would burst out unexplained,
their heart would pound and
their body would shake
over the slightest inconveniences.

Their  thoughts expressed:
"Am I like:my father?
Bipolar, violent, irrational?"
Often flooded their minds.
I believed their words – empathised.

“I deemed myself unworthy
of consistency, reliability,
happiness, trust and love.
I preyed on the weak
they reminded me of my mother.

I destroyed my body
with any drug or liquor
that I could get my hands on.
Denying myself of food,
Starving myself of love.”

For years and years and years,
I helped them stumble  upon peace:
once I explored the inner crevices
They surrendered to the war within
and stopped abusing themselves.

Years of therapy.
Countless hours of running
notebook after notebook
Of poetry and musings,
they learned to let go and love.

The trouble, you see
is often lack of self-love:
my perceptions revealed it.
They finally learned to trust:
I've fought one hell of a battle.

I was a Social Worker.

I prayed earnestly to heaven:

on praying - we will get back to you."
