Chaos
The buzz of constant sound
Heavy percussion beating, beating
My heart that longs for you

The music of my love grows;
Crescendos, at the mere grace of you
Every chord is consonant, never dissonant
As is the good character of your person

Love, like music, is never perfect
It's full of too many sharps and flats
Accidentals. Accidents. Mistakes.
But sound pleasant to the unknowing ear

These mistakes are what make us unique
Different from anything composed before it
For isn't that what love truly is?
A perfect melody only we can share

Promises Broken
Anna Wood Sep 2012
Learning to swim
When the pool is bone dry
Stringing a kite
When there's no wind to fly
You always swore
There'd be no goodbye
But they're broken
These promises broken

Learning to swim
When the pool is bone dry
Stringing a kite
When there's no wind to fly
You always swore
There'd be no goodbye
But they're broken
These promises
Running away
When there's no end in sight
Chasing our dreams
With all of our might
Every last memory
Jumps back to that night
And those broken
Those promises broken

Beneath my bed covered in layers of dust
Lies an old and worn out photograph
It's Christmas time and children huddle together
Wearing holiday sweaters in red or green
But one child seems to have a personality all his own
The boy in the bright blue sweater

Time passes, I see him once or twice a year
Always so different, his personality intrigued me
We were the best of friends when we were together
His unique charm always making me smile
Then once he confessed his feelings were stronger
The boy in the bright blue sweater

We dated then, that boy and me
We shared every feeling, every secret, every story
I felt like a princess with him as my prince
Whenever I broke down, he'd dry my tears
It didn't take long before I fell in love
With the boy in the bright blue sweater

Then one day, my life can to a sudden halt
When that boy said he didn't love me
Tears fell like pouring rain drops in a fearful storm
My heart shattered like glass into tiny pieces
He wanted to feel popular, be like everyone else
Anyone but the boy in the bright blue sweater

I don't see him now, we never talk
To him it's like I never even existed
But me, I don't know what to think anymore
Bestfriend to boyfriend to enemy to stranger
But I am sure of this, to me he will always be
The boy in the bright blue sweater

Thoughts about Life
Anna Wood May 2012
Dreams
Maybe one day mine will come true
Love
The drama and confusion of a girl's life
Laughter
The split second when you can feel
happy under all of the pressure
Faith
Knowing I can make it though each day
if I trust Him
Believe
To believe that one day, everything will
work itself out
Life
The crazy, fun, hard, dramatic, confusing,
wonderful rollercoaster all humans must

Moment of Love
Anna Wood May 2012
My phone rings
At midnight
You want me back; to hold me tight
The last time
You promise
But I've heard that before

You whisper
"I'm sorry"
You didn't ever want to hurt me
But nothing
Seems to
Turn out like we've planned

One
Sorry look in your eyes and
I've
Fallen for your disguise
But baby not this time
'Cause I
Already know where you've been
And my
Whole world's caving in
You just want one moment of us
One moment of love

Years later
You're back in
Town with some new girl in your hand
The whispers
And rumors
You've got a wedding planned

You walk up
My front porch
A quick hello relights the torch
But your heart
Belongs to
Someone else instead

One
Sorry look in your eyes and
I've
Fallen for your disguise
But baby not this time
'Cause I
Already know where you've been
And my
Whole world's caving in
You just want one moment of us
One moment of love

One moment
One moment

I just trusted you
I thought your love was true
But now you've changed forever
Forever
And ever

One
Sorry look in your eyes and
I've
Fallen for your disguise
But baby not this time
'Cause I
Already know where you've been
And my
Whole world's caving in
You just want one moment of us
One short little moment of us
One moment of love

You've lost me
Anna Wood Apr 2012
Forever, on and on
That seems so long ago
Back then what was just a dream
Now remains a painful memory

We were perfect together
That's what everyone said
My friends always envious
That our love was so true

Now that you're gone I'm wondering
Was it all true?
Was any of it true?
What is to become of us now?

I still love you
There is no doubt about that
I used to admire your love of acting
But your favorite facade to perform
Was loving me

Blooming Rose
Anna Wood Apr 2012
Life is like a blooming rose
It starts out peaceful and innocent
Naturally finding its way
And time will continue
Until the rose is in full bloom
The next few weeks are perfect
For it is composed of pure beauty
But, like life, an end is near
And eventually that delicate rose
Falls, brown and lifeless

So enjoy the time of pure beauty
For yours could be long and great
Or yours could be like the rose
Stunningly beautiful in every way
But short lived and extinguishing

Just Some Feelings
Anna Wood Apr 2012
You left one day out of the blue
Many reasons were said, but none made sense
To find yourself you asked for freedom
When I never tried to hold you back

Just a break, you said, but those never work
We'll just drift farther apart from our love
But now our love has dwindled to a thin shadow
Fighting impossibly hard to stay alive

You still love me? Funny way of showing it
Remaining best friends? That's what everyone says
Summer's coming fast and plans still holding
From those teenage dreams we used to share

Love's to blame
Anna Wood Apr 2012
Time
Time rushes by
And takes with it our worries and our dreams

I
I'm wondering why
Nothing ever turns out like it seems

I'm lying here awake
And I'm just thinking bout
Love and life and hate
And what I'm gonna do
For you and I will never be the same

And as our time goes on
Oh now I'm talking bout
Love and life and song
But I know it's the truth
That you and I will never be the same
And love's to blame

If we could, if we would
Anna Wood Apr 2012
If we could fly
Jump into the sky
With you by my side everything's alright
If we could soar
And love a little more
We'd realize what we're living for

If we could sing
The wedding bells would ring
I'd be the queen and you'd be the king
If we could dance
A merry little prance
The romance of France wouldn't stand a chance

If we could dream
How happy we would seem
Oh you and I make the perfect team
If we would pray
Every single day
You might be amazed what He would say
If we could
If we would

An Unexpected Friendship
Anna Wood Mar 2012
Another school, another day
The Indian woman makes her way
Passing students in the hall
To spread her story to them all

Another class, another crowd
The students here are way too loud
The teacher yells, they take their seat
But one quiet girl I'd like to meet

She sits alone, eyes on her book
When I start talking, then she looks
A baby deer, she hid her face
But the smile I saw was filled with grace

My story ends, the kids applaud
The deep attention, their facade
The bell rings, they clear out fast
The lonley girl stands up at last

She then came up to shake my hand
And show the customs of her land
Her shy confidence shining through
From the little girl dressed in blue

The book she holds is one I wrote
My life story, every quote
That one connection; very strong
I should have known it all along

For true happiness is these simple moments-
When people truely connect through their
Heart, spirit, and mind
Cowritten by the fabulous Elaine Bradley

Someone like you
Anna Wood Mar 2012
Our relationship ended a while ago
9 months we spent apart
Then fate finally made us friends
Settling confusion in my heart

Just friends, nothing more with jokes to laugh
I only know one thing about us to be true
Years from now I'll be looking for someone
Just a friend; someone like you

Alice
Anna Wood Mar 2012
Prologue

A winding road stretched ahead
As a young girl wandered past
Her whole life had been torn to shreds
Since the night of Sunday last

Her shoes were worn to nothing
Her hair in matted knots
Her heart was pained with something
The past few days had taught

Surrounded by the darkness
Heart pounding in her chest
A sound disturbed the silence
But what, she could not guess

A chill shot up her spine
As she recognized the sound
The brakes let out a gentle whine
She knew that she’d been found

A head peered out the window
A face that shined with glory
I’ll take you where you need to go
If you tell a great story

The girl accepted his request
And stepped into the truck
She began to tell the story
Of three girls and their bad luck

The tale**

Many moons had come and passed
Since Alice, Lena, and Margaret
By one, their fate was so cast
They now stood as a target

At home that day they were alone
Their parents out to lunch
They did not hear the floorboards groan
Or the break of the door; crunch

A scream disturbed the pleasure
From the youngest of the three
A man grinned at his new treasure
Then whispered, “Follow me.”

The girls were struck with some new fear
They had never felt before
They feared the end was drawing near
With no hope left anymore

He drove them to his house
On the dark side of the town
A lonely life without a spouse
He was tired of his frown

I want to see the youngest first
He ordered with a deep voice
To let her die, that’d be the worst
If only they had a choice

Their sister’s blood-curling scream
Ringing loudly in their ears
Why must life be so mean?
Their eyes then filled with tears

A minute later she returned
Very bruised, but still alive
On this night the girls must learn
Just how they might survive

Throughout the night the man came in
And ***** them one by one
They cried at his unforgivable sin
With fear they’d never see the sun

The morning came and Alice knew
The man would come to **** them
Her sisters didn’t have a clue
That death would lie before them

And she was right, for he came
At seven forty two
They had no one there to blame
There was nothing left to do

A shot rang out, then a yell
Her blood trickled to the floor
Lena? Margaret? She couldn’t tell
But she bolted for the door

Before the man could see her
Yet another shot rang out
They were dead now, she was sure
The pain made her want to shout

She ran out into the street
She had no clue where to go
The only sound was the birds tweet
They had happiness left to show

She wandered on the empty road
As the day turned to twilight
The birds replaced by loud toads
She walked on into the night

As the girl finished her tale
The man demanded her name
Alice, she said, his face went pale
Alice, the girl, one in the same

For her story was the truth
Down to every last thought
But this was the same man too
This time he would not get caught

Anna Wood Feb 2012
One look
Our eyes met in one quick glance
Different people, met by chance

One look
You took my hand and leaned in close
Our first kiss, the fatal dose

One look
You finally asked me on a date
You were just a year too late

One look
That fake kiss sitting in your jeep
A horrible secret I had to keep

One look
The final dare that broke my heart
Forever tearing us apart

I miss you
Anna Wood Feb 2012
You were here, temporarily
Then suddenly you were gone
But in those few short years
You changed my life

I miss the way my name sounded
As the sound escaped your lips
I miss the way you'd pull me close
Hands resting on my hips

I miss our conversations
Lasting deep into the night
I miss your dreamy eyes
Glowing strong and bright

But most of all I miss the way
You'd lie and say I love you
But even though it wasn't the truth
I wanted to believe I loved you too

Who are you?
Anna Wood Feb 2012
Some people love to talk
They'll persuade you of anything
Some people love to study
They're always equipt with the right answers
Some people love to draw
Their pictures are worth 1000 words
I like to write
Words flow out of my soul with meaning

We all have one thing that's all our own
A speaker can't study
A genius can't draw
An artist can't write
A writer can't speak
So why are we put in tasks without strengths?

Because most of the time
The speaker doesnt know
The genius doesn't know
The artist doesn't know
The writer doesn't know
The marvelous talent they really possess
Anna Wood Feb 2012
I'm not a label, I'm a person
From afar, we're all the same
A nose, a mouth, two eyes
But a simple name makes us unworthy
A nerd, a dork, a geek

Forget the labels.
We're all people.
Regardless of what we're called

Nature's Beauty
Anna Wood Jan 2012
The crisp, cool breeze of winter
Flows freely through my hair
Sending goosebumps across my body
Only I'm not one to care

The wind dies down; I see it now,
The beauty from inside
Made possible by the strict rules
By which nature must abide

The highest peak of a mountain
The smallest grain of sand
Or even something just as simple
As the snow here in my hands

Most people walk and pass it by
There's something they are missing
The whisper nature sends to us
As I watch silently, listening

Without it life is quite a bore

Fame
Anna Wood Jan 2012
A strong desire in all of our hearts
To be known by others
To have our voices heard

Maybe by just your friends
Or the whole world as your stage
Your name known and respected

Why do we all want the same thing
Not just to be included; accepted
But to have value and praise

Children want reward for good behavior
An artist wants praise for his work
The elderly want to know their life meant something

Maybe fame is just human nature
A want born with each new soul
That starts as we're young and grows with us

Or maybe it's societal pressure
That our life isn't important
Until the whole world knows your name

So step back and bring someone else to fame
Help them on their personal quest
And you will find your personal fame
As the one who cares

Different
Anna Wood Jan 2012
Dare to be different
You hear it everywhere
But how different can you be
Before you are just the same?

Isn't that how ideas are spread?
Someone tries something new and
Suddenly...it's popular
Like new spring designer fashion

A new year comes with new plans
"I'll be different," they say
And maybe that's true, but January will fade
Bringing back the old life left behind

For it never left you, just faded behind
Until you took its hand
And brought it back; your lost soul
But next year you'll leave it again

Dare to be different
Not what I would say
Dare to be you
For that's all you can be

Runaway Spirit
Anna Wood Jan 2012
I'm finally with my own Prince Charming
But something's not right
My dreams continue to haunt me

He swears to only speak the truth
At least what he believes to be the truth
For he is blinded by strong emotions

Myself, as I've come to learn
Am also blinded, though not by emotion
But by dreams, and the fairy tales within them

How is it that my knight in shining armor
Has failed to remain the man of my dreams?
As if all hopes change as the bright moon rises

And now I am lost in my sea of thoughts
As I hope in the dark, or just the absence of light
That tonight will be different; something will change

For I, the girl with the runaway spirit,
Have one wish that I'm certain is true:
The chance for this one part of my life to be
Normal

Another day, another smile

Guessing Game
Anna Wood Dec 2011
For months I've tried to let you in
You turn away, no smile or grin
All those secrets you never tell
It's a guessing game; oh well

I try, try, and try again
To make you happy; I never win
What can I do? You'll never tell
It's a guessing game; oh well

A year ago I learned your name
Nothing special; a face the same
I only knew what you would tell
It's a guessing game; oh well

Why? You're so confusing
You think it's amusing
I just can't foretell
It's a guessing game; oh well

I try, try, and try again
To make you happy; I never win
What can I do? You'll never tell

Imagination
Anna Wood Nov 2011
I woke up early one morning
Get out of bed, my family's still snoring
But I've got a special place to be today

The road's wet; the rain had just fallen
And I know soon you'll be callin'
I can't wait for the sound of your voice

Rain in the summer, rain in the spring
Everybody knows that's our kind of thing
The flowers in the meadow don't stand a chance
As we throw up our cares and dance
We paint the petals one by one
We paint the petals one by one

A willow almost forgotten
Your hair feels softer than cotton
A good book and we could stay here forever

An old path, I've never been here
Your hand in mine, I walk with no fear
Outdoors right here is right where we belong

Rain in the summer, rain in the spring
Everybody knows that's our kind of thing
The flowers in the meadow don't stand a chance
As we throw up our cares and dance
We paint the petals one by one
We paint the petals one by one

And I can't stay here without you
And I see the world in a new view

Rain in the summer, rain in the spring
Everybody knows that's our kind of thing
The flowers in the meadow don't stand a chance
As we throw up our cares and dance
We paint the petals one by one
We paint the petals one by one
This is actually a song so without the music behind it it may not seem like the syllables fit

Fly away
Anna Wood Nov 2011
A baby bird
Born a turquoise blue
She is loved
A family strong and true

Mama bird
Dad and Grandma too
Helped her learn
What she can dream to do

So watch me now
I get on my knees and pray
Why must you
Fly away, fly away

Years have passed
She is older, wiser too
She looks out
For dear old Grandma Blue

The wind blows soft
A whisper and she knew
Life is lost
There is nothing she could do

So watch me now
I wish you could have stayed
Why did you
Fly away, fly away

So watch me now
This is what I have to say
I love you
Fly away, fly away

I love you grandma

I'm sitting on my front porch
Staring at the falling rain
Your voice sounds like an angel
As you're calling out my name
And you wonder, if there's something more
As we're walking through the door

But there's no spark, there's no love
I need an answer from above
'Cause I don't know what to do
But then you say, one more time
I need a chance to call you mine
But I don't love you too

I'm laying in my bedroom
It was late last Saturday night
I felt the warmth inside of me
I could finally see the light
Then I knew, just what I would do

I'm standing at the rockwall
The only place where I feel free
I dig around to find a pen
As I try to explain me
But I know you'll never understand

That there's no spark, there's no love
I need an answer from above
'Cause I don't know what to do
But then you say, one more time
I need a chance to call you mine
But I don't love you too

I'm sitting next to you
My heart is pounding in my chest
I hope you can understand
You're not the one that i like best
Now I know we'll never feel the same

'Cause there's no spark, there's no love
I need an answer from above
'Cause I don't know what to do

This is Marching Band
Anna Wood Sep 2011
The smell of the turf on a warm September night
The roar of the crowd as the team scores another touchdown
It doesn’t matter; we don’t even react
For our purpose here is something entirely different

The buzzer sounds to end the first half
We take the field, excited and numb from nerves
Our hearts are pounding, the drums are beating
Our feet move mechanically to the beat

Quarter notes and half notes practiced for many long hours
Finally the reward sending chills through our bodies
Our feet stop; our horns come down
We smile at a job well done

Most people don’t notice us
They are so wrapped up in their technology
If they would only take 5 minutes and escape
Into a world of beauty and passion

This is marching band

Forever, On and On
Anna Wood Sep 2011
I met you a long time ago
A feeling I could not let go
You now hold a place in my heart

Your eyes shine bright like the sun
Your smile just wants to have fun
I wish you would smile at me too

But she holds that place in your heart
And we may live miles apart

But I know that I love you
Do you know that I love you?
I will always love you
Forever, on and on
Can you tell if she loves you?
Does she truely love you?
Cause I'll always love you
Forever, on and on

I see you down at the store
You're with her; you seem kinda bored
With me life would never be dull

Your voice sounds light like a dove
Your lyrics rhyme about love
Your music is one of a kind

But she can't relate to your songs
And we've waited far too long

Cause I know that I love you
Do you know that I love you?
I will always love you
Forever, on and on

You can tell that you love me
That you truely love me
And we'll always be happy
Forever, on and on

You + Me + Her
Anna Wood Aug 2011
I see you
you turn and run away
But I still hear you
I hear every word you say
And I still need you
Oh you know that I want you

But You + Me + Her
Won't add up to anything
And you want me to know
You're sorry for the sting
But I can tell I don't belong
Cause You + Me + Her
Is wrong

I try to tell you
but I won't get very far
Cause she controls you
like the driver to a car
And you're still hoping
that I might forgive you

But You + Me + Her
Won't add up to anything
And you have lost a friend
The wind beneth your wings
Now you can tell I don't belong
Cause You + Me + Her
Is wrong

Don't cheat.
