Sit on the porch
Or play in the rain
Sit on the sidelines
Or get in the game
Watch the performance
Or dance on the stage
Swim with the sharks
Or watch from the cage
Sing along to every song
Or just listen to the beat
Learn how to fly or
Stay grounded on both feet
Whatever you choose
You only get one life
So live it for you
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
I’m done, throwing in the towel
The whole world is out to get me
Why can’t things just be easy?
I feel like I’m caged
Behind work, attendance, and grades
Suffocatingly overwhelmed,
Pushed, broken, and bound
To the degree I need
They say, to succeed
But should any degree,
Be worth my sanity

You
11:30 am sharpe
Somehow I knew you’d be late
Still buzzed from last nights
Drinking yourself to sleep
The pain that you hide
Glows in the blue of your eyes
At a distance you stay
Keeping me arm’s length away
All I want is to love you
To take away your hurt
But you are a forever leaver
Never to be saved…
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
She cries for all of the hurt in the world
And wonders why cancer would destroy such a beautiful girl
Why would it take an innocent mans life
A mother of three children and another mans wife
Why would it attack such beautiful skin
Or suffocate another from the lungs within
Destroying everything that keeps one alive
Eating away the ability to survive
Leaving only distant memories
And forever living on in stories
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
I wish I could capture a moment
In more than just a fleeting glance
With more than just a single stance
There are so many faces I want you to meet
So many people you will never have the pleasure to greet
A picture is only worth so much
It will never replace a true touch
Or the sound of a special voice
If only you could have had the choice
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
So this is real life?
Nothing like you pictured
And hardly as you planned

There are no white horses
And shinning knights
Just fast paced days
Followed by sleepless nights

Disappointing solutions
To everyday problems
Endless dissatisfaction

That little sliver of hope
Is always in the back
Of your always busy mind
Just waiting for you to slack

Beauty is found
In all the small things
This helps ease the pain
And take away the sting

These harsh realities
Will always seem further
To the everyday dreamer

So this is real life?
Nothing like you pictured
And hardly as you planned

Can you feel it?
The sand between your toes
Can you smell it?
The salty sweetness in the air
Can you hear it?
The waves splashing on your feet
Can you taste it?
The salt on your lips
Can you see it?
The beauty the lies before you
