sprouting from the damp earth
we trod from the muck into the sun
and were glad in it.
we found there, the space to waste time in
and more space to explore with our riveting lives
boiling in the womb of all wombs.
we stride to the heavens undisclosed to religion.
and on approach , we find gods in teapots
steeping the illusions we crave
over hot coals on a sinking
barge.

we are happy as we will the suffering to continue.
but as a flock of flaming gulls
we singe the night sky and the ocean below.
they both burn as we commit to our purpose.
each a sovereign fool
and an angel
shackled to a
spot -

on the Sun.
a raw deal on a hot plate.
sizzling with all the swagger
of a fair shake.
a glib fraud.
masquerading as  a state
of grace.
and perhaps an apple pie
resting on the window sill
of your gullible house.

a fib in a wig of ice cold stars.

through the paths of small animals
the clearings  the foxes and the deer use
she walks with her ivory harp
at times plays a flute
and closes the distances between the wild
animals
and the forests limbs
the undergrowth
her bed for a life
dedicated to
nature
she is a resolve
purity and truth
and no man has
touched her soul
yet

give me life or give me
a life's supply of reality
I beat my chest
wanting both
my cake and eat it too
realize that one is
worthless without
the other

had a sight to see
and it took my life to get around
to making it reality

I have seen in this somesuch  make
believe life beauty of
a mountains tall

majesty, a woman's
glory so softer than a
pillow

and more god than any
being I have known
her navel

her hips the way
they curve up to her
*** and *****

her soft wetness
a swell the seas the mountains
never touched

the way she took me in
we melted into each other
but

I speak now of suddenness
how the days are metered
and she and hers are

tender but not all
of it and I'd lke to show you
one day

just one day I stepped out
of my mind
and saw myself

it was enlightening
and baby it was good
I floated over

died for a minute
came back
better

I seek that
again
the fervent reality

in the mirror again

if we all joined in left right
to write a poem a novel
you can sing I know you can
we all are free
make any old words up
if you want to
sing along
the beat is here
the words are up to you
just give a hoo a haw and stomp your feet
twirl round
like I do
stand upside down and
hymn
bring an instrument
join in
a harmonica a trumpet harp
kettle
just beat the hell out it
and sing for god's sake
at the top
of your lungs.

promises by god are forever
as sure as mountains stand against
the test of time

and holiness is grass
under our sandals
man made castles

are but transitory
cathedrals beautiful
and monuments

to us are erected
only when we can't see them
my sanctity

yours and ours together is in
our words our
unfailing dedication to

our words

they say so much

last alone on headstones

I have never seen a happier face
than his
and he was dirt poor
ignorant
or was he
came right out the mountains stinking
as bad as any badger or ****
had dirt caked from months
not bathing
and his smile was great as Mona Lisa's
happy and I reflected
in his lingering
essence
long after his smell left
out the airpipes airconditioned stuffy
surrounds I had become
encumbered with

righteous is as righteous does
and I so love my neighbor's wife
don't need no lawyers just a justice of
the peace a keg of beer some
pork chicken
and charcoal 'round here
a bit of dirt to kick 'round
four wheel drive
a Remington
and two bits
'round these parts

it's all in the gnomes on your lawn
that draws me baby
not your curves
not those curls on your naked shoulder
or your poems
not the way you slide up to me
like some kind of fine woman
just those gnomes
I like your gnomes
baby
