More to Life?
Aaron Jamison Jan 2020
Money, money, money is the cry of the city
Shallow souls lost in a sea anonymity
Insecurity transcending their actions
A hidden lust for everyday distractions

Power, power, power is the selfish plea
A naive notion that they are free
On the surface I do want this
A life of intoxicating bliss

Control, control, control is the world's decree
Weakness? That would be an atrocity
But no, something is wildly amiss
There has to be more to life than this

Be a Friend
Aaron Jamison Jan 2020
We can rejoice
You can sigh
You can feel the depths
We can touch the sky

You can belittle
We can gratify
You can desecrate
We can sanctify

We can uphold
You can lie
You can plunder
We can supply

You can flee
We can stand by
You can diminish
We can magnify

Oh weak of heart
You cannot run
You cannot hide
Upon this you can rely

A Hopeful Toil
Aaron Jamison Jan 2020
The anguish severing through your soul
Rips a chasm across my heart
So I dig deeper into that hole
A dark abyss that drives us apart.

Bound forever to you, I'm sworn
Like the wind and the rain
Like a rose and a thorn
I'll forever feel your pain.

Through our tiresome lonesome fight
When our tone is of gentle voices
Your eyes dance with flickers of light
My body and soul lifts and rejoices.

Your beauty softens my sharpened heart
Your patience redeems my whirlwind feet
Your wisdom I envy to impart
Your soft tenderness feels so sweet.

Our tongues will be stilled
Our whispering voices will cease
Our fears will pass away
Our love will never fail.

Awaken
Aaron Jamison Jan 2020
On this day the wind will blow
On this day the rain will flow
Ice will form around my soul.

I fill my heart with impending doom
Nothing can lift me from this gloom.
Alas on this day the mist will lift,

A fierce lightning strike from above
Illuminates the one white dove
That was sent to give me peace.

The ides of winter, they will falter
Darkness gives way to that bright alter
On this day the sun will shine
On this day that pain will cease.

My Wee Man
Aaron Jamison Jan 2020
A happy little chap
Stares deeply at a map
What wonders he will see
The adventures he'll meet with glee.

Climb the mighty castle at Stirling
Scale a crumbling wall in Berlin
Soar over peaks to delight at Athens
Be a fearless Spartan, whatever happens.

Nothing is too preposterous
You'll sail through the Bosphorus
Stroll among the ancient gardens of Iran
To the piercing minarets of Samarkand.

Let the senses be bombarded by Karachi
Then speed like a bullet through Nagasaki
Fear and learn from such events past
Yet do not let a shadow be cast.

A life will surely be had
And no one will be more glad
Than that happy little chap
Who stared at the map.
