Joseph Zenieh Jun 2020
A SMILING DAWN
The early morn exhales its breeze;
the sun is peeping from its bed.
Its sleepy face is like a child
who starts to raise its covered head.

I smile and welcome its soft look
that is so eager to greet me
as l with all the trees nearby
are such old friends dawn likes to see.

The rising face feels quite secure
as he sees those familiar crowds.
He sends his rays so nice and warm
and throws the blanket of white clouds.

NOTHING CAN BE DONE.
Joseph Zenieh Feb 2018
NOTHING CAN BE DONE.

I am lost, about to drown,
All in fear, a warring town.
You see tears being mixed with blood,
But hearts made of solid wood.

What can one do in this case,
Hopelessness and mean disgrace?
Man is supposed to behave;
Empty hands cannot be brave.

Here is truest test of life:
Nothing in hand in huge strife.
What to do for those near you?
Their welfare is what you view.

Ostrich, you are my best guide:
Be with kin, but your head hide.
Nothing else now can be done.
You may look and all is gone.

THE DECISIVE OPTION
He is the norm which man desires
if one aspires to what is good.
He's done all what those He has loved
will find so good for their own world.

He hasn't looked for what He likes.
His boon will all His life destroy.
It will disturb His glorious plan
and bring His heart most horrid woe.

This is the choice you have in life
to serve yourself or who are near.
You can't have both as selfish men
reduce to peat those who are dear.

Serve yourself and you lose your heart
or love those near, you make it warm.
You feel maltreated, but inside
you reach the balm of upper aims.

MARRIAGE, A NEW BIRTH

She is so loved in parents' house,
The toy of all, and joy main source.
All members find in her their joy.
She is for all their main life buoy.

They bring her what she loves to eat
To get her smile, so cute and sweet.
She brings her house a man one day,
Her choice to share with him her way.

What will that man bring her new life?
She finds in him a new birth strife.
What sort of life will he create?
To what new land will they migrate?

He is the captain who will sail
Her sailboat which is small and frail.
What will this birth show her and give?
Is it worth what she plans to leave?

When people check what l indite

My faults and me used to advise.

If they correct and hark defence,

LOVE  BIRDS

Birds of love, how don't you feel a little shy?
Beak on beak in deepest kiss close to my eye.
We the humans, feel ashamed of public kiss.
It's a shame that we look at with some malice.

Why don't you wait till the room is just for you?
Then you can enjoy your kiss with none to view.
No one will say one bad word of sin or shame
As we, human beings, can do and keep good name.

My dear man, l am a bird and known as pure.
I don't do what anyone can least injure.
What l do with my mate bird is good for all
My mate is my only love since we were small.

I don't mate with other birds or flirt with them
Or look at them with bad eyes or a worse whim.
What we do is known to all and can't bring blame,
So we do all our deeds and keep good fame.

LET'S CONVINCE GOODNESS TO STAY.

Why do we look for what is bad?
Does not what we behold round us
Make us quite sure it is abound
And fills the world with dreadful fuss?

The ugly sights are spread nearby
To make this world a fearful scene.
Let's seek what causes all that cry
And replace it with smiling sheen.

How strange is man when sparks of hell
Provoke his hatred from inside,
And make it on his face reveal
The devil with its hateful pride?

The vicious sights have filled the world.
Let's light a lantern in the dark
And roam dark streets; we may behold
The ship which goodness will embark.

YOU'RE MY HOPE AND LOVE.
A light has shone inside my heart.
I've loved it much and knelt to it
as it has given me a sight
I love to see that it exists.

It makes me think about the source
and feel so glad it's from the Lord.
His worth is high in my poor core
as He's become my only hope.

I've found Jesus in daily life
in those who suffer and keep quiet.
Despite all that they show their smile
lest those they love will be disturbed.

He's changed the earth's old attire

He's made His heaven start from here

You fear the future and you want
To live a life that can delight !
How can you carry that time bomb
And live a calm and tranquil llife?

The sense of fear, once in the heart,
Can spoil success, your love, your laugh.
Don't tell me your heart can live joy
And fear lives there and can destroy.

This life is not for who thinks much
If his thoughts are of cares and such.
That man can never have a smile

They behold their ancient glories

How can l endure? I'm Christian.

When you extend your hand and l stretch mine
The two most eager hearts meet on cloud nine.
We both get joyous as you want me glad,
And l can't smile if l find your face sad.

I do my best but find those whom l love
Shake hands as if my dirt demands a glove.
I lose my nerves and get so much depressed
As those l love want me to turn distressed.

How hard life is when those you love refuse,
And your kind acts they purposely abuse.
You show that without them you cannot live,
But their looks show that they want you to leave.

Why do some people have the hearts of stone
That nothing can make soft or deeds atone?
Their stupid minds insist till they destroy
The sparks of love in you and gleams of joy.

If you don't get like a child,

Paradise will be your house,
If like children you rejoice.

Who can live the joy of Earth
Except children in their mirth ?
If you don't believe, ask self
Which days you love in your life.

Chocolate or a piece of sweet
Makes their joy full and complete.
Games in streets bring them great joy ;
This pure life's what they enjoy.

They feel no hate and love all ;
Minutes only end their brawl.
They give their food when they see
Beggars come near with a plea.

I like to fly. What can l do?
My wings are short, nowhere can go.
Shall l stay where my land is bare
Or fly with verse where none can dare?

I float on oceans and the seas
And ride among the forest trees.
Sometimes, l probe the people's hearts

They have no means and they retreat,

By chance, He came to where l pray,
A church l went to on Sunday.
He came in clothes so cheaply sewn

He came to church where we were dressed

He looked at them when they paid alms
How they paid them with proudest palms.

BETWEEN THE PAST AND NOW

A poem seems to trace all arts.
It loses power and gets small.
The shorter your curt poem gets,
the better for you and us all.

A poem gets too short and shy
Not longer than just four brief lines.
No one is ready to descry
the longer ones as patience whines.

It should be clear and quickly kenned,
or puzzles that amuse the mind.
If not, none would his time spend
since readers are in no time bored.

Where are you writers of past verse
that used to charm and give deep thoughts?
Or was verse then the learned's main choice
as none else were there but their notes?

How great you are the skill of rhyme;
You give this life what is sublime.
You take a man up to the sky,
Where he sees heaven with his eye.

You whet man's skills to sing a song
And see what's right from what is wrong.
He loves the right and lives its depth
And throws the wrong to shun its filth.

You make the poor man feel so rich
And travel where no one can reach.
He lives in worlds none can attain
And so long he can there remain.

He gets a sense that wealth is in;
He's got it from fecund heaven.

LOVE,  THE  BEST  PRAYER

You pray and think you do God's will
And deem you will in heaven dwell,
But if in love your heart is cold
Heaven won't be your coming world.

The world you seek is in your heart
Where God, His throne and peace has built.
There is your heaven and your dream
If love and peace from your heart gleam.

Your alms and prayers are so good;
They help to love and show the road
To love, to help and dry the tears;
Then you dwell in the world of cheers.

If you pray and that does not move
Your pity and your  heart's deep love,
Your prayers are not well addressed,
And their right way they have digressed.

Don't preach with words you don't intend to live
and make your hearers weak by what you give.

When preachers make the devils get docile,

The devil none can **** with that great ease,

When preachers use their words for their own gain,

Though man is prompt to waste his time,

Where are the clouds that passed the sky

Did they deserve to photograph
and keep their shapes in weeping eyes?

Are people passing just like them
at times they're tinted by the sun,

Does not the truth of life deserve

He was not afraid of fighting

ON THE TROT

Like cats we never walk but trot
And when we reach the goal we sit
Just doing nothing, with a yawn
As nothing's waiting to be done.

This is the case of man on earth;
We run like mad men out of breath
To reach an aim but when we do,
We sit and laugh at that ado.

So grim is life with death at end.
It stirs the fear in people's mind
And urges for something secure
To find an end that can endure.

Some men may find it with morale,
That can endure in bliss or hell,
While others keep the search to find
Immediate outcomes in their hand.

They keep the search in nervous ways
Forgetting time and passing days.
When they get somewhere, they find life
Has reached its end and was too brief.

We envy you dumb, trotting cats;
You've lived your life with no harsh thoughts,
While thoughtful man has wasted it
In search for some obscure target.

HAPPIER THAN YOU IMAGINE

HAPPIER THAN YOU IMAGINE
Is your love for those around you
just for some-time or forever?
If it's just for worldly periods
cruel is death for minded mankind.

How can you depart with all those
who have left you to your sorrow?
What can compensate that feeling
if no meeting is to follow?

What's your hope if you are walking
to a change that makes you nothing?
From mere nothing to another
never gives you satisfaction.

Man, you're walking to that pleasure
where you'll meet your sublime Father,
Who has made you for that rapture
to rejoin your dearest darlings.

LIGHT AND THE TRUTH

LIGHT AND THE TRUTH

Noone sees daylight and insists
On life in darkness scaring fists.
The truth is light and can convince
Our heart and free us from suspense,
Which throws us in the well of doubt
With none to save except clear light.

Doubt seems like that deep and dark well
Where we are hung with rope so frail,
Fearing the long expected fall
That if it happens, it ends all.

None can save us from that dark doubt
Except a clear and cheerful light
That sends us its well plaited rays
To climb up back to lighted ways.

No ghosts can lurk if you are there;
No doubt can let dark well to scare.
All gets so clear and life gets bright
When light's strong plaits lift us from night.

THE SAVIOUR

How weak a child when his dear mum
Leaves him in garden and goes home.
He gets too frightened and too glum.
He can't stay there, and he can't roam.

He just becomes a chick of bird
With wings unfeathered and dumb tongue.
It falls from its nest to the ground,
With none to help, to beg too young.

No one can please him but that face;
She only can give words that soothe.
Only her soft hand and its grace
His ruffled hair can gently smooth.

He cries and shouts and does not want
Except her face of kindest smile.
If she comes all gets quite all right,
And he feels that life goes so well.

JUST MOVE YOUR HAND.

JUST MOVE YOUR HAND.
If you want me, move your hand.
I'll be under your command.
I'll leave all what's dear to me
and come just your eyes to see.

With you, l live in a world
so far from the noisy crowd,
gardens with the purest stream
Where soft breeze gives hearts their aim.

You make me fly like a bird,
gliding on wings strong and wide.
Its aim is to reach the sky,
which your soft eyes can supply.

You show me what the sky gives,
pure love whose joy my chest heaves
in a world calm and serene,
where we crave to be unseen.

WHERE YOUR HEART BELONGS

WHERE YOUR HEART BELONGS

Your love to where your heart belongs
Is moved by words of ancient songs.
You heard and sang in your young years;
When old, you cry when your ear hears.

A song you heard your mother sing
And it remains in heart to ring.
Each time you hear, you hide yourself
As absence brings your tender grief.

A kind of dish or glass of drink
Your father loved and made you link
That glass with him that when you see
Past scenes are unlocked by that key.

A place each used and never changed
And what he loved he there arranged.
You've changed your house but those sites stay
When you recall your sighs they sway.

WHOSE MISTAKE?

WHOSE MISTAKE?
My eyes have asked a lttle boy
who wept silently by a wall
why he is hiding secret tears
that let those he loves see his grief?

They kindly ask about the cause
and give him some consoling words.
He'll feel all right, and it will pass
with smiles that give the sweet repose.

His eyes rejoin, it's his mistake.
His marks at school are bad and those
he loves expect the best from him.
His hardest work give no rejoice.

He works so hard, not to be proud,
but please those dear who are around.
He loves them  much and want them glad
when they perceive their son is grand.

DON'T WORRY MAN; JUST WANT.
Joseph Zenieh May 2018
DON'T WORRY MAN; JUST WANT.

You give man what You want him to have,
But l really want Your Son to love.
I can't have what is a gift from You.
When You grant it, then l can that do.

I want Your grace, then my talents grow.
Without gifts, l have the shortest view.
My Lord, l still stretch my arms and pray;
You are living God; You will array.

I depend on You and no one else.
My heart and my bare soul you will dress.
Without You, l am too weak my Lord
As true gifts l can't find in this world.

I love men but their gifts are too small.
They can't give what can a rope install
Between earth and the sky that You dwell.
Just a word from You makes me excel.

WHICH IS FIRST?
Joseph Zenieh Jan 2020
WHICH IS FIRST?
Faith and sinless life, both can lead me
to the world where life is complete joy.
Faith in Him will make my life so great
and restore it from its hardest doom.

What can sinless life build me to thrive?
It can't change the world in which l live.
Just it saves me from most harmful qualms,
but it does not show the dreams l need.

My desire in this life is what
shows me that the end is jubilant.
Man is born to live a cheerful life,
only the Redeemer can provide.

This unequalled Lord has come to earth,
suffered on the cross to make us live.
When we have deep faith in such a Lord,
sins will disappear from our world.

SELF-ESTEEM AND RESULTS

SELF-ESTEEM AND RESULTS
Wise self-esteem is not a gift.
It's built by self and not bestowed.
The mountain peak can pierce the clouds.
It's height is in and not endowed.

You can plant hills and make them green,
and full of flowers, a lovely sight,
but they can't in their height compete
with lofty chains to reach high site.

My self-esteem is what l build,
and knit its stitches with my hands.
Machines can never reach that end;
craftsmen construct and then art stands.

Vain kings came and went but could not
leave what Napoleon's hands could weave.
The world was full of passers-by,
but few whose self-esteem could  thrive.

I AM THE GOD OF YOUR SOUL.
Joseph Zenieh Apr 2018
I AM THE GOD OF YOUR SOUL.

You don't intend to know that l
Incite the feelings inside you.
I stir your fear, and move your eye;
Those are my signals that l show.

You ask for clues, but what are these?
They are so clear, but you lack sense.
Who helps you and controls your fears,
And gives you peace and strong defence?

Don't you ken that l've made your soul,
The Father Who lives inside you?
You want material life, you toil
Or ask the parents, who flesh grow.

Your soul l protect with my hands,
With my pain on the cross, you know.
I protect you from that who stands
To sever you from me through woe.
