you promised so many things that I thought you painted our future in gold
I believed I could settle my mind with ease, "I'm not going anywhere" is what I was told
But in pure darkness like a thief in the night you were starving for crime
You told me you were taking my heart and never returning what's mine
You gave me no choice with a gun to my head
I said
"I can live without my heart but I can't live without you"

Some days people are exhausting and existing can feel like a job you aren't getting paid for. Receipts from last week's takeout scattered among loose change on your nightstand you've been meaning to pick up. Silent nights are the loudest in your head. But other days the sun is setting on your route home and the sun kisses your chin, your favorite song making love to your eardrums, and your better half waiting at home ready to ask about your day. The little things are sometimes the biggest reminders of why living is the point of everything.

I can't help but to think about the way your lips tasted that night
Cigarette tainted with a hint of sugar
Your teeth sank into my lips, it felt like poetry itself
Tongues twisted like jump ropes while the moon watched
I had nearly forgotten that would be the last time I got to dance with the devil
