Cast among the downpour,
gates beneath dark clouds are left open
The creek is rising, drowning underbrush,
darkening tree trunks,
moving swiftly the discarded,
Collecting at the walls of this place,
as stone and mortar slowly crumble

From a desperate vantage point
overlooking nature’s angry powers
I see a shape, a floating aura,
eyelet gown of gold stitch, woven ribbon dreams
Mahogany hair flowing, eyes captivating,
drifting atop muddied raging waters,
directing the flow with blown kiss persuasion

Suddenly swept away, barely a breath remains,
swallowing life in surrendering gulps
Flailing intoxicated waves, undertow’s grasp,
when a hand reaches, fingers interlock
Glazing blue skies whisper in sunlit reflections,
ocean breezes soothe washed out tides,
as a sand dollar wishes on a seashell

And now upon this beach I lie safely within soft arms,
tasting her mimosa lips, warm and sweet
I drink in her flavor neath palm tree shadows,
cool in the heat, but hot of her skin
My heart hears the glistening, tingling my senses,
awashing me in desires impossible to imagine,
as I happily drown in her

I wrote her a poem
then watched for her smile,
hoping that one I would see

I gazed on her features
just hoping to find,
a grin right there showing for me

She read a few lines
but nothing much changed,
a standard expression she wore

I poured out my heart
in this poem today,
it says she’s the one I adore

It told of this love
that I have in my heart,
to her it would always be true

Still it’s the same,
her face as she read,
I’m not sure what else I should do

When now as she finished
she looked up at me,
a tear seemed to form in her eye

And then she kissed me,
so soft on the lips,
and breathed an affectionate sigh

She said that she loved it
each line that I wrote,
penned in a beautiful style

Then sighed once again
and now I can say,
in the end it was me who did smile
Ok, I know, not one of my best. But I got the title stuck in my head and had to do something with it. I thought it was a cute play on words.

Cantilever tombstones
Gathered in a row
Broken bits of someone else’s deed

Weeds are overgrown
Thorns about the snow
Endless come the struggles as you bleed

Ravens are amassing
High above the trees
Searching for remaining shards of bone

Circling intruders
Cutting through the breeze
Waiting as your sins you now atone

Thicket mangled wings
Fractured fighting fear
Carving sad initials on your skin

Thunder clouds approach
Storms to gather near
Drenching darkened sorrows now begin

Iron barred protrusions
Block the jagged way
Keeping you from exiting this place

Fall upon your knees
This your ending day
Every thought of you to soon erase

Fade into the gravel
Claw this frozen earth
Quickly 'fore a morning sun does crest

Bid a found farewell
Far beyond your birth
Time has come to take your final rest

Sometimes I’m stupid
Sometimes I’m dumb
Sometimes my brain
Is a little too numb

Sometimes I listen
Sometimes I hear
Sometimes I frown
When it’s not very clear

Sometimes I speak
Sometimes I say
Sometimes the words
Seem to get in the way

Sometimes I run
Sometimes I hide
Sometimes I lock
All my feelings inside

Sometimes I hope
Sometimes I dream
Sometimes I reach
If you know what I mean

Sometimes I give
Sometimes I take
Sometimes I feel
Like I’m ready to break

Sometimes I write
Sometimes it’s art
Sometimes my poems
Will touch her heart

Sometimes I smile
Sometimes I cry
Sometimes I worry
And I don’t know why

Sometimes I think
Sometimes I do
But always I know
I'm in love with you

Eternally true
Forever you’ll see
It’s never sometimes
When it is you and me

I felt the weight of the world
upon my shoulders today
and with just three little words
she lifted it off of me
and didn’t even break a sweat

What can I say
that she's not heard before
so many voices are calling

Where can I find
every poetic word
so in my arms she'll be falling

How can I stand out
a face in the crowd
from all the others now showing

Coerce her eyes
till she sees no one else
gazes my way now are flowing

When will it be
till I'm all that she wants
another her heart, won't be stealing

What can I say
that she's not heard before,
so she will know how I'm feeling

I found the sunrise in your eyes,
tiny dew drops in your kiss
Upon bright Lantana skies
on a morning just like this

Now I look within my mind
and the scene I long to see
On this new day that I find
is that you are here with me
