Holding her
in my arms
was as close
to heaven
as I’ll ever
need to be

Take this, this poem
with torn, tattered edges
Stuff it in pockets
of jeans faded blue
Tell all the people
who teeter on ledges
Nothing is worse
if you have not a clue

Shatter this pen
flowing ink made of fire
Charring the castles
where dragon wings fly
Fanning the flames
that a sad heart has started
When every stanza
now ends in goodbye

Fracture the vase
that once sat in the window
Emerald green
with a chardonnay shine
Toss me the shards
till you see I am bleeding
Now have some cheesecake,
a nice glass of wine

Bury these dreams
so they fade in the morning
Hidden from sunlight
and coated in dew
Roll out the leaves
in the cover of autumn
Springtime for me
is now long overdue

I punched the sun
and burnt my hands,
they blistered ‘fore my eyes

Because I want
just cloudy days
to fill my sorrowed skies

I used to like
the daylight hours
before she went away

Now I just can’t
accept the sun,
I want a cloudy day

And evening
doesn't help at all,
if it is coming near

Because I know
there’ll be a moon
upon the heavens clear

So I’ll keep punching
at the sun
with burns upon my skin

Until I can’t
fight anymore
or clouds return again

I think the past is a part of the future
Crystal ball stories I've read once before
Lonely predictions that paint rosy pictures
Cartoon creations of what lies in store

Looking behind is the same as is forward
Recalling moments my heart it did spend
Only to find it eventually broken
Crying the same tears I did once again

Over and over, not hard to remember
What I will see becomes all that I saw
Finding a dream only leads to a nightmare
When I’m awake or when slumber does call

Sad is the knowledge, I’ve seen this all happen
Starting my journey through life on my own
How it began is the way it will finish
Saying hello and then leaving alone

I hope I do not disappoint
for I am merely me
Just a common average man
nothing much to see

No one all that special
a normal kind of guy
I smile when I am happy
and when I’m sad I cry

Perhaps a little overweight
I do not dress in style
Wrinkles where they shouldn’t be
they’ve been there for a while

No Prince Charming on a steed
a flowing lush estate
Nor a white knight armor clad
a sentry at the gate

Fighting fiery dragons
with a sword held in my hand
I wouldn’t even hurt a fly
I hope you understand

Not much like a movie star
good looks and perfect hair
If I walked into a room
no one would stop and stare

I do not have a sculpted chin
or muscles big and strong
Definitely not a leading man
for that would just be wrong

I’m not young like I used to be,
way too close to old
But if you can see past my faults
you’ll find my heart is gold

I want to bring you sunshine
every cold and cloudy day
Write for you a poem
that will take your breath away

Look into your eyes so deep
with wishes from afar
Maybe sit beneath the moon
and see a shooting star

Tell you that you’re beautiful
while we are oh so near
Show you my affection
so you know it is clear

That every dream I’ve ever dreamed
is what you’ve come to be
I hope you see me as the same
though I am merely me

My heart
took flight
on northern wings

To find
the love
forever brings

Along a path
above
this place

Of cooler
ways
desires trace

For when
at last
I stand before

My waited
wish that
I adore

Then I
will know
this wondrous view

Is proof
my dreams
have all come true
