*Clinging to shooting star sparkles,
like diamonds aglow
in your eyes
Breathing the scent of affection,
breezes in whispers,
soft sighs

Floating on clouds made of
cashmere, plush as the
heavens above
Drenched deep in drizzled desires,
melting the depths
of your love

Vagabond brothers in plaid patchwork socks
Crossing the street between stripes painted yellow
Stretching the avenue half past the hour
Dodging the drunk, he’s a staggering fellow
Reaching for handles of brass alabaster
Gathering things at a grocery store
Paying in cash with a currency foreign
Offering nickels, they don’t have much more
Pork chops on Sunday and sweet apple cider
Pushing their cart over ten city blocks
Still they are known for their colorful fashions
Vagabond brothers in plaid patchwork socks
I was given the title and challenged to write a poem to it

*Here on the night before yesterday’s dream
Twilight composers retreat
Laughing at whispers a’ flow on the stream
Happily taking a seat

Practicing meadowlark lyrics to sing
Strumming a toadstool in tune
Awaiting the light that the fireflies bring
Blinking a wink at the moon

Tulips with tambourines gather around
Spider web chandeliers glow
Shade tree sonatas, a wonderful sound
Echoing up from below

Pine cone recitals and blueberry sighs
Star dust ovations in rhyme
Choruses sung beneath velveteen skies
Harmonic three quarter time

Orchestral canopies glisten above
Melodic rainbows the view
Performing songs written solely of love
Played on this evening for you

Across the vast expanse
Heat patterns rise from flat rock
Simmering sensations to fool the mind
Blurring even the recognizable
Into a mirage of nothingness

“Dust coated winds that do not exist”

Blinding hypnotic colors play
Weaving patterns of self doubt
Alone in a misconception of belief
Solitude of unwanted fear
Emptiness worn on a sleeve

“Kaleidoscopic nightmares so very pretty”

Let down, shoved aside, forgotten
Discarded emotions piled in a heap
Broken sidewalks of those I thought I knew
French braided friends…or so I believed
Abandoned on my own crumbling foundation

“Why did I ever believe?”

I see a tiny speck…perhaps something in my eye
Canceling the horizon’s verticality
Moving beyond invisible footprints
Solidifying a view…a smile…waving
As if a drunken crow has tipped over

“Thoughts turn to memories of words once spoken”

Reoccurring images race forward
Sentences of comfort find their way
Down the path to my heart
Realizing I now understand
What she meant…that day…this day

“I run to meet her halfway…her arms are open”

Some words heal
Some words sway
Some words leave
Some words stay

Some words calm
Some words soothe
Some words swear
Some words prove

Some words smile
Some words sneer
Some words hurt
Some words cheer

Some words stop
Some words flow
Some words tell
Some words show

Some words whine
Some words scream
Some words pout
Some words dream

Some words heal
Some words ache
Some words give
Some words take

Some words praise
Some words shame
Some words rave
Some words blame

Some words love
Some words hate
Some words help
Some words rate

Some words sing
Some words cry
Some words lift
Some words sigh

Some words rhyme
As you can see
But all words work
In poetry
