As a young girl
Made to do household work
Errands to run
Household to please
Told it was their duty
To make others lazy
Sent to school
For a few years
To read and write
Not for their use
But to be more useful
Married of in their teens
To a man never seen
Enter a family
Numbering many
Not even introduced properly
Start where they left off
Only the address differs
Work without pay
Continues till after hours
Servitude to the husband
His family in tow
One more joins the row
Told to assist in the chores
One dimension alone
Takes its toll
Period of time
Mother nature's indifference
Had children to raise
Not only theirs
But many in a joint family
New generation to serve
Third in a row
No reprieve offered
No task let go
Added on many more
Older members to serve
Husbands and family
To please
Children to nurture
Guests to be honoured
All treated in the same vein
Effort increased as did age
Born without time
But served it fine
Did not need a clock
As they had no agenda
Only time to look at the time
Was to ensure others were on time
Used as a ladder
All their life
All climbed and got off right
Everything for granted
Only life to focus
Nothing else mattered
How was everything in place and ready to take
Never asked the question once
Their fingerprints touched many lives
All for the better none worse
Older age nothing to celebrate
More to face
Doing it from birth
Burden never left a trace
When did they sleep
When did they rise
Are they well
Physical and Mental
Did they need help
One great lacking
Is their inability in asking
Second nature in giving
Did i learn nothing,?
Real living is living for others
Bruce Lee said
These women by example lead
Have seen two
How did they manage to do
What they do
One sided transaction
Only taken none given
None asked is their greatness
Did it even occur to me
To ask them the question
Did you have your meal
Food for hunger they provided
Food for thought
Their lives to be celebrated
