Sideline Festivities
Parker Burris Jan 2021
Watch and listen,
my little kittens;
a relationship is forming!

Like a rose, it blooms
though its shadow looms
scarce, its magnetism is adoring

While villains plot
and heroes do fall
it is never fun to weep and bawl

So enjoy the side lot
and observe as they leap and crawl
for to us, they are but frolicking dolls

If the world is a stage
why not relish the play
and do away with feelings of utter dismay?

So far away
Parker Burris Apr 2021
For every flower I give
and every cookie I bake
there's an uncountable distance
between the giver and the loved

This barrier is deemed
the keeper of misunderstanding.
I live in a world where a certain sentence
could destroy everything I've built.

If I were to break it,
the loved would disappear,
my flowers would wilt,
and my cookies would be dough.

So I keep it up.
This fallacy,
this unstable mess,
this tamable rampage of emotion,
this shallow mask of unadulterated love

Sometimes, it's just easier to break the barrier
and start where I left off.
Far, far away.

I Knew You Once
Parker Burris Jan 2021
I knew you once
Your hair graciously unfurled
Your eyes as pure as an ocean's pearl
Yes, I definitely knew that girl
I knew her once

The grass brushing our eager fingertips
Our bodies warm from toes to hips
I swear I knew her that one night
When our eyes drifted above our Earthly plight
and watched the stars dance in innocent sight

For that girl from Round Rock I rarely get to see
revealed herself once, which was clear to me,
for that sliver of time the girl she wanted to be
became the girl I knew

Serenity Sickness
Parker Burris Jan 2021
For many,
night is a sanctuary

Stars drift by with a passing glance
constellations beautify in their dance
so boys and girls
can wander, dream, and follow in trance

But night for me is a massacre

The angry judgement of the moonlight
drags the forgotten corpses, decay, and dread into sight

Looking up, my eyes are drowned in white fire
melting whats left
of me

Pondering wonder,
wondering for you,
of the flags we'll sail under,
the makeup of our crew

Wondering further,
the further I go for you,
the faster we'll flutter,
making the skies anew

Further away,
away I go for you,
on this lumbering ship of today,
we rush to shores where I'll say for you

"Pondering wonder, my Wondering Willow,
ill keep wondering for you,
so rest your head upon your pillow,
and when you dream of this ship, you'll say we flew"

Flea of Farewells
Parker Burris Jan 2021
Toss me aside
Your show cast down
As he who abides
Becomes forever sound

Your memory glazed
With half truths and lies,
My memory stays
To remember your goodbyes

For someone has to remember,
How criminal would it be?
If every trauma and misdeed
Were lost upon me

As somewhere in those neurons
A flea tics by
Biting, scratching,
Living your lie.

Just remember, every flea dies.

March of Empty Skulls
Parker Burris Jan 2021
What a shame that thoughtless skulls shamble
across polluted, toxic land in pessimistic embrace,
that frightened individuals diminish themselves for a comforting blur

Can the individual only survive in the collective?
Is every person destined to betray themselves?
What a virulent lie.
Only such thoughtless banter can come from such a march
of empty skulls.

Classless
Parker Burris Mar 2021
Eyes asunder
in a land down under,
feel wrath
of the raging Euphrates

My pupils,
darting like a whip
lay suspicions
of a thoughtless cult

Passionless flames,
blinded knaves,
compete for my hand

But as a gentleman may remark,
my mouth barks:
"Nay"

Passengers Island
Parker Burris Jan 2021
A passenger sits alone on an island
fretting at his virtues,
exploring better pasts,
in a hopeless attempt to leave

Alas, the passenger fulfilled his own prophecy;
for thought without action,
proposal without change,
leaves one standing still: a passenger of his own fate

— The End —
