Distant Lovers
Derek May 2019
I write about the things I'm missin
I'm on a mission
to make you listen
I have no doubt in this decision
Our love will solve our long division

The truth
Derek Mar 2019
The truth is I'm lying, waiting
Losing time like daylight savings
Contemplating, with my self debating
But father time is not hesitating

You could have been a rockstar
You could have driven race cars
You could have gone to space it's not that far
You could have been a doctor
You could have been an author
You could have flown a plane or helicopter
You could have been teacher
You could have been a preacher
You could have hit a grand slam into the bleachers

But you want to be a ****t head instead
A ****t head instead

Consequences
Derek Mar 2019
It was near but never here
My dream I had forgotten
Like rain clouds in the deserts
And everything that they had brought them
Now I fear to persevere
And seem to dream far less often
And the shame brings me to tears
A good idea it might have not been

I take wheelchairs upstairs
put down beers
pick up spares
I pay fares
and trade shares
I win bears at state fairs
I once ate a steak rare
By mistake
When I was in daycare

The Tree in the Country
Derek Jun 2019
The Spider The Ant and The Bee.

All live in the same tree.

The spider spins webs in the dark when he's hungry.

The ant likes to climb the tree bark when it's sunny.

The bee spends the day in the park to make honey.

And they all get along in The Tree in the Country.

Derek Mar 2019
I want to be
Where I need to be
Just to have you with me
I'd be so lucky
Just to be beside you

Although we've never met
I've been so upset
*** I'm still waiting on a gift that heaven sent
I'm waiting for an Angel just like you

to lies exposed
your rights imposed
the life you chose

You're my sunshine
Derek Apr 2019
You're my sunshine
When outside
Is just wind and rain

I blow a deep breath
And spell your name on a windowpane.

When arms are closed
Derek May 2019
When arms are closed
Friends turn into foes
Weaknesses are exposed
You can only reap what's been sowed

When eyes are closed
Hi's turn into low's
Your rights are imposed
Was that the life that you chose?

When the pen is moving
the sound soothing
But I can't stop wondering
What the end is to bring

Summer
Derek Apr 2019
The sun is setting
Summer is getting
Closer by the hour
You can see it in the flowers
Season change to sounds of laughter
From once upon a time
until happily ever after

I'm on another level
Out of touch
and you can't reach me
And frequently
I find I'm on my own frequency
But feasibly
And I believe
quite easily
I could receive
Affinity
From all who breathe
The same air as me
Before I leave.

Love is blind
Like wind in a sail
Your heart's confined
In a silver-lined jail

Derek Mar 2019
I'd shave my head
Wear a sombrero
Chasing you through thin and narrow
For a chance as slim as Cupid's arrow
To chew the fat or **** the marrow

Life support
Derek Apr 2019
Whisper in my ear
what I hear I won't tell anyone
Have no fear my dear
but the path is clear if you want to run
She told me " life's unfair, no one cares, and it's all my fault" I told her "don't despair, life needs to be taken with a grain of salt"

Sappy
Derek Mar 2019
There's only one tree in our field of view
There's only one me, there's only one you
The Stars I see, in your eyes so blue
The sound of the sea, surrounding us two
Together we'll be, forever, it's true.

Crazy for you
Derek May 2019
I would swim across the oceans
Just to show you my devotion
If I bottled my emotions
I would sell them as love potions
