Decisions
John D Higgins Aug 2017
Each one matters,
but which count?
tis in this our beings are found,

Each day we make thousands of them,
but we only remember a few,
the rest follow the lead of the crew,

One after the other they seem to ball,
but lacking specific order,
nature without regard for how small,

Marilu can remember them all,
but what proof hath she brought?
outside of the hex's superior recall,

She might argue decisiveness,
but not within her realm,
a sanity lost in sticky eidetic tales,

So many facts in her head,
but what is the main entry?
system's require a classification method,

A selective bias helps with her choice,
but what is her reward?
Either maximize payoff or minimize toil.

Gray Area
John D Higgins Jul 2017
As the bird flew amongst the crew,
We watched it change direction,
She thought to herself how much color,
He figured it was injured,
They knew something didn’t seem right;

Riding that wave without care,
Dipping and dodging to the next,
Without doubt if it would ever end,
Effectively moving with no loss of tread,

This innate instinct belongs to the beasts,
He made sure to protect their purpose,
Forgiveness for those with a choice,
An opening perceived as a beautiful dream,

Bleeding with an injured wing from the hawk’s grasp,
His mistake cannot ever be found,
To a hungry nest controlled by the sound,
Following a cellular map wrapped around;

Her cries for justice and sanity could be heard for miles,
He watched her eyes absorb the blast,
Realizing deep down it would not last,
An innocence burned alive ignited by the pain;

A vulnerable moment is all it takes,
A slip in time to the next frame,
Backwards an option for a digital trend,
Catching light a virtual bend,
Cradling this blue jay that met the end;

They stopped and stared,
Searching deep inside another to find reason,
How could this happen to such a thing?
A flawless confidence has disappeared,
Replaced by a doubt.
