Hidden lights
Eric Apr 2019
Press Pause for one moment
A moment for eternity
Find your light inside yourself
It's terribly clever, an expert in disguise
It hides from the storm, which...
The storm of perception
But, turn off for a moment
Put the flurry out, and as the debris settles
Your light will be seen
Be careful, you don't want it to run away
You must love it and care for it
Feed it
Not with the faults in our world
But our TRIUMPHS!
Introduce it to the other lights
And soon you will see an eternally brighter world

The Anchor
Eric Jun 2019
First, it lay by my side, stained and chilled in condensation
I said, "leave me you rusty old burden"!
Without a word, it remained heavy
So I pushed it away, over the edge

And I ran, in search of disguise
And it sank, colder into deep indigo
I saw an infinite horizon
It saw what was true

I explored, and wandered, and grew, so much, I grew
A sponge larger than an ocean
I was massive compared to that weathered old metal
Yet it was greater still than Me

I pulled and pulled, I couldn't break free
But I've travelled the world, what else can there be?
The stars? The planets? The endless still time?
Those are simply not, no, those are not mine

The trees are not mine, the mountains, the sky
The ocean, the city, no, most are not mine
I'll tell you what is though, a place I once lived
With a barn, a house, and a great big field

And down in the centre lies glossy still water
In it, a rope, and a calm rusty old anchor
It lies at the bottom of the most serene pond
It's the missing piece to the puzzle, to my home, my heart

Obstacle?
Eric Jun 2019
I stumbled to the bathroom
And as I stood there
The walls spoke
They told me
"You can change everything"
This poem is about so many stories. "Everything" has it's limitations, different for each individual's "everything"; Collectively, everything. .

Before technology,
we had our hands,
and our legs,
we had each other.

We had our earth.

We have sacrificed our skills
of labour,
communication,
of respect.

We have hurt our earth.

And research continues,
and technology advances.
But I truly believe that the greatest knowledge
lives in the past.

When we loved our earth,

and she loved us back...

fighting survival for truth
Eric Apr 2019
Sitting, vegging, waiting, waiting. Artistic longing coursing through my veins, mixed with the
masterpieces of our local brewers. My gears are in neutral, but I’m moments away from popping
the clutch. I hesitate for my children. I must be, must be responsible, conservative, safe. They
must be taught, taught what? Be polite, kind, loving, study, study, study. Like this, listen, no,
stop, don’t. You can do anything! Like this, like this.
I am an artist hidden in my heart, protected, concealed. I dance like waves swirling through my
veins, an aura reaching out to our connections. Concealed. You can do anything, like this, like
this. Take a right turn four times, study that path. Stop! Stop! No, not you. Stop, Stop! Children,
you must not listen to me, your teachers, society. Learn, yes. Your destiny though speaks to
you. Not through me, your teachers, society. The universe has a plan for you. You are the
universe. It pulses, pumps, flowing from your heart. Listen.
Stop it, be safe. Set a good example for your children. Set a good example, follow the rules.
Follow the rules? It’s too late, you’re too old. Set an example. Be free, set them free.
Love everyone.
2 audiences, self and children.

I, Before It
Eric May 2019
In the middle of this society, reflecting on what it’s done to me
Planning my next move, calculating it within the rules
I think about the very essence, am I here or in other dimensions
But then my clock tick tocks, alarm set back to culture shock

Is there a way to someplace better, where my mood’s not dictated by the weather
Where I’m not guided by technology, a world where there’s surprise for me
Something meaningful, more powerful than a hand can create
A revolution of my consciousness, societies’ debate

So I step out now and look into the horizon
Before a million miles, but my motivation’s rising
And I see the peak, a pathway to the heavens
I rely on myself, I’ve learnt you can’t rely on sevens

Now I’m finding my truth, I’m trusting it to carry me
To inspire my thoughts, to inspire self philosophy
I don’t need to be told what to do or think or say
I’m a let the universe guide me before it throws us all away

Pullies pulling from known meadows
Reels in Dark hallways
The patients' rooms shine reading lights
But flowers bloom outside

Hope's aura locked from blind eyes
These bricks must hold the key
Boom sounds the drum, a distraction I suppose
But break this padlock free

I'm a genius, I can't be held
Every chamber I've decoded
Slash these chains, still I haven't found
True light remains hidden

"Give up", says the voice
"Home is gone, forever undiscovered"
The drum beats on and so I follow
And become the light of others

Welcome to my canvas, my words are not mine
Feel free to take our story where you want to go
Maybe travelling aboard the grassy soil and watching clouds go by
Or questing for a hidden treasure on an island out at sea
I've said enough of these words, which of course are not mine
Disappear inside your mind and take us somewhere

And time is but a still moment, everywhere at once

Thank you dear poet, for sharing this moment
For letting your soul fly free
And painting on my canvas
Which is not mine

Framed in black edge, sharply cornered
The definition of past, tells present, predicts future
True are the occurrences, which speak of memory
But reflections only teach, and blind ahead we are

We walk the thinnest thread
Between clay and diamond
So mould your teacher out of clay
and chisel out a brilliant future

When you reach the end
Do you close it as it is?
Or flip the pages backward
Digging deeper within?

The script cannot portray a single meaning
As the written words speak a thousand each
Tales abroad derive from many lives
Who's stories as deep as their memories

Though numbers add up
Two plus two is four
Is there another galaxy
Where maybe it's not so?

Every surface has it's weight
Not hidden, but discreet
Like every story, so don't settle
There's more underneath

True Colors
Eric Apr 2019
We say hello, thank you, you’re welcome, goodbye
We compliment each other, or agree when we’re shy
We model the perfect gentleman or gentlewoman
Marching in unison like a high school band

Then we unhitch a latch and step through a vortex
Forget who we acted like, our name and our ***
Hands on the wheel, no one else matters
Fight for position, fight until…
Crash! Bang! Drip, Drip, darkness, everything shatters

A few minutes come at a very high cost
Beat -- beat -- beat --  then lost
Our cage is what brings out our true colors
Our victories certainly somebody's dolors

Moments are precious wherever you are
Learn to find joy and peace in your car

In a dark place
Dense as the deepest violet
A spark emerges
Dancing so beautifully
Full of life
Its glow expands and retreats
Tighter and tighter
The spark tenses, suffocating by its own light
Smaller and smaller, microscopically still in space
An extreme mass, too heavy for the vacant universe

It’s bursts!
A million stars dust the canvas of nothing
Each with its own glow
Again and again
Infinitely

These words are a script
You can study them
And repeat them verbatim
As this poem is written

But are these words simply that?
Phonetically intact
Safe, safe, so very safe
Memorised, for their pleasure

Then recognise your artist inside
Trapped behind structure and rules
You write exact, clear and concise
But those who memorise the words are fools

My script is packaged for you to discover
An algorithm decoded by mind and wonder
As are all the words, which have graced our planet
Culture from another place, or time, another dimension

I made my choice and cried the truth
I asked for you to grow with me
But you dropped that anchor on my tongue
So I built an arsenal to destroy cold brick

Now we sit in the aftermath
Stagnant in the chill of resent
And we both know that guilt creeps behind me
Sorry, but at least with an empty bottle

What other choice did I have?
I could have forced the stopper back in
And drown my voice under deep pressure
Until it tears through the fragile cork with even more fury

No, my bottle is empty
Sad, but empty
It's easier now to numb myself
Until the pond of truth seeps back in

A Quest for Magic
Eric Jan 2020
The boy lay awake, searching the deepest caverns of his mind. Every cell from his skin to his soul, hoping for what his imagination prayed to be true. Dreaming, daydreaming, night reflections of a force with which he felt, but no, the world was not ready. Magic. Oh sweet and glorious answer to the universe’s most complex riddles. Magic can only be the truth that vices our world, underneath the deceit of war and money, hate and poverty. Magic sustains what appears to be lost under the one percent of ultimate greed. It has been present throughout all of history, secretly tickling the imaginations of children and the hopes of men and women. The world wants it to carry their weight, but no, the world is not ready. So the boy lay there, eyes fixed on the glowing stars of artificial energy, patiently calculating what real actually is. Oh he was not ready to bow to the suggestive voice of the governed world, nor was he willing to accept the definite stories of our religious figures. Because threaded within the seams of all existence is the unfactored spark, which knows a more complex algorithm than man, math or science. And the boy, like every child, knows it too. But the cruel and bitter world has stolen that truth from the grasps of every child, and with it goes their ability to summon that magic from between the threads of our universe. And now this boy who lies awake, is balancing on the needle tip of a mountain, figuratively speaking. At the base to the south lies the structured world of predictability and perceived security. And to the north? Oh, the north is beyond words. The north is imaginaction, and then hope, but if you travel deeper into apparent blackness, you will see more than your eyes can offer. The north is truth. Yes dear boy, travel north, as so few do. Travel to where your dreams await, Because what you think you may know, knows you a whole lot better. So find it and then spread out your arms.

It was the perfect picture

Credited to the make up, the scenery, my mood perceived by me
Brand new name brand shoes and a glass of pricey *****
The planning and time that I spent
To hold my arm in full extent
I am the envy of all your dreams
The inspiration to your themes
And you can pay me back in likes
To validate my portrayed life

But the pricey ***** washes out
The truth of all my faults and doubt
For my perfect picture wasn't me
It's what I wanted you all to see
Your likes help lift me just a bit
To cover up what I can't admit
Credited by credit, it's what you don't know
So I'll keep it to myself and prepare for my next show

Holding on by a string of a stem
Thinning by gravity
I will catch the next breeze
Warm and gentle, carry me free

I am so very young
Yet I know how to fly
Watch me spin, watch me twirl!
Flying down, down, into a soft earthy bed

I look up at the mighty sun
It feeds me energy
Enough to reach down into the soil
For I am thirsty

Seeking out underground
For any droplet I can find
I reach out here and there
And fill myself right up

Look at me, I am green!
I’ll push up higher for you to see
Stretching, stretching, day after day
Watch me as I climb

I’m getting stronger now
But nothing like my mother
She is the mightiest tree I know
One day I’ll be just like her

The Umbrella of You
Eric Jun 2019
Do you know why I love you?
A long time ago, we went bowling at the disco lanes
I liked you, I didn't know if you liked me
Sure, we held hands, but I was young
I knew nothing
In ordered fashion, I was polite
I did as I was taught at home, or by society
I respected you, so I didn't cross lines
Thank heavens you did, for when you kissed me
My opaque future became transparent
Now, before, and later, life has, does and will challenge us
And as front as our perils may seem
They will always trickle down the umbrella of the girl I once knew, know and will always love

I choose to work on this humble journey
Gold shining within reach
Reach is a decision

I can choose his path, her path
Or the true path
It lives within my core
Derived from the earth beneath my feet

It’s what was intended for us
All of us
But ignorance is a cunning trickster
It’s the engine to society

Man, woman, cannot create happiness
Happiness is what flows throughout the universe
Unlike the book you hold in your hands
But the story that is born from it

And then you realise how rich we all are
Each time you dig your toes into the sand
As you watch a powerful tide roll in
Or as a strong wind helps carry you

And so I’ve made my choice
I choose truth

I am the universe
I am you as you are me

There's no time for one last drink
Because your going to try and make changes

We've waited too long and the world needs to change
Immediately, habits must die and be born

Beauty Fears the Night
Eric May 2019
I plant my feet firm on the rivebank
The sweet petrichor seizing under dusk's chilling spell
Our mighty star melting into a rich fiery horizon
Settling in unison with the current's ripples
Now glassed over, mirroring the moon's icy glow

I stare across at the deep forest
The silhouettes of mighty evergreens reaching to their full extent
Though nothing else but the soft echo of dried needles
and perhaps a whisper from the cold wind
Craftily dancing between the trees and resting by the river's side

Beneath the glassy waterbed
I see darkness as black as ink
The obscured home of many a living
And I, I will not venture there
I will not go, for I gravely fear the unknown

Not fear, terror! An artistic transformation has possessed my thoughts
The river, forest, stars and moon circle me faster and faster
In its eye, the eyes of the obscure are watching me, plotting
I don't belong here, please let me go
Faster and faster, searching for something familiar, but thud! I am asleep, a gift from defensive response

Until the world I know returns, and then I shall return

I wake up on the riverbank
The sun's glow touching all colourful life
I see the river's waves begin to dance
And the forest trees sway along
I see absolute beauty

Beauty too, must fear the night

All or nothing for All

A knight travels by foot
Her treacherous journey

Across fields, she slay a fairy of deep ruby
Over mountains, she tricked a grizzly to jump, down, down, down
Through forests, she learnt magic from elves and banished them from existence

She is a hero, destined to survive.
The only survivor to escape the rampage
In search of its source
She will not be slowed, not a giant, a dragon, a witch
Nothing will cross her without certain death
She will stop at nothing to reach the king of the message

She has fought off the evil, which was everything good
It attempted to fight her and failed
And now she stands eye to eye with the last survivor on the planet
The source

She can take him with a single slice, spell, or illusion
And banish evil forever
Banish life forever

Humanity’s only hope lies in her blade
To be a hero, or be her hero
No matter, she will be a legend
But will her legend be told?

Get us to, get us from

I've carried it on my shoulders
With you packing it tight
My labour is your ticket
But now more than ever, I needed it

I took it
Up with the sun
Drop off child one, drop off child two
Drop off you

Now time to myself
To shop, stock
a half hour walk
Enough to be back

Pick up you
Pick up two
Pick up one
My day off is done

I asked you for this day
I guess I should thank you
For letting me carry you
Before, now, forever?

Though I still see wonders
I still wonder
Was I wrong all along
Or can it change?

Close your eyes and breathe
Inhale nature's gift
Through the pores of you bare feet
Inhale the nutrients from her soil

Breathe
In your stomach, chest, face
The raw caress of a firm breeze
Warm, cold, true

Reach out
Absorb what's green
or vibrant shades in full bloom
Painting you with life

Submit to her star
It touches you warm
Strong through deep, cold, silent space
A concentrated drop of joy to fill your body and soul

Breathe
As the universe contracts around you
Holding you firm, but gentle
Cleansing toxic thoughts, and body

Exhale
Release them away
