I dip my fingertips into color:
a hardened shield against the whiteness
of yet another winter day.

Though the heart beats more fully
at the sight of a snowflake's slow air travel,
I'm frightened I'll simply disappear into the blank evening.

But my shocking grip of deep plum-purple
holds tightly to an envelope containing your letter:
Ten blemishes secured to paper pale as the world.

And when this hue flakes off, just a little,
to color the wild-wind of Nebraska,
I remain: rimmed in broken honesty and thinking

About my hands that stretch out in fragments
to float with the swallows in a white sky
and stain the far-off snow of, say, Alaska.
Every day you play with the light of the universe.
Subtle visitor, you arrive in the flower and the water,
You are more than this white head that I hold tightly
as a bunch of flowers, every day, between my hands.

You are like nobody since I love you.
Let me spread you out among yellow garlands.
Who writes your name in letters of smoke among the stars of the south?
Oh let me remember you as you were before you existed.

Suddenly the wind howls and bangs at my shut window.
The sky is a net crammed with shadowy fish.
Here all the winds let go sooner or later, all of them.
The rain takes off her clothes.

The birds go by, fleeing.
The wind.  The wind.
I alone can contend against the power of men.
The storm whirls dark leaves
and turns loose all the boats that were moored last night to the sky.

You are here.  Oh, you do not run away.
You will answer me to the last cry.
Curl round me as though you were frightened.
Even so, a strange shadow once ran through your eyes.

Now, now too, little one, you bring me honeysuckle,
and even your ******* smell of it.
While the sad wind goes slaughtering butterflies
I love you, and my happiness bites the plum of your mouth.

How you must have suffered getting accustomed to me,
my savage, solitary soul, my name that sends them all running.
So many times we have seen the morning star burn, kissing our eyes,
and over our heads the grey light unwinds in turning fans.

My words rained over you, stroking you.
A long time I have loved the sunned mother-of-pearl of your body.
Until I even believe that you own the universe.
I will bring you happy flowers from the mountains, bluebells, dark hazels, and rustic baskets of kisses.
I want to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees.

why am I still breathing?
She said as she scoured the city with a broken heart;
the leaves, they keep on falling,
the leaves, they keep on fading--
and the trees, they keep on singing.

but why am I still aching?
She said as she smothered herself in his wounds and his wounds;
but never in His,
but never bandaging her own wounded spirit--
and the moon, it keeps on spinning.

but why am I still sighing?
She said as she sprints down roads she'd never traveled;
just to drown out the awakening demons,
just to sing their sad song once more in solitude--
and the car, it keeps on crashing.

but why am I still running?
She said as she awakens to bleeding heels and blistered hopes;
December, it keeps on wishing,
December, it keeps on manifesting dreams--
and the girl, she keeps on walking home with only the sound of her footsteps to accompany her.
Sliminess of the mermaid, makes me come alive, strange?
don't blame me for this, that you would think an aberration,
I've long forgotten the human logic, from the moment I realized,
fate has joined me with her, the mermaid, a  longing unfulfilled for long,

This sensual yearning sans prospect of consummation, baffles others
but not me, life has many dark alleyways that go nowhere.
Aren't we illusions ourselves?  Viewing sun's intense ways and moon's
hesitant tranquilizing gaze, through water's blue buffer is narcotic.
From under water only a  cool simmer , different experiences,
fish fin caresses, guilty pleasures of carousals with masked shark beauties,
underwater world has no pains, ever heard about
stilling pain by swimming long distant nights?
*Or is it because, I don't see my own teardrops shed underwater?
