Him vs You
Jeremiah Jacklyn Apr 2020
He..
He.. gave.. me..
He gave me jealousy
He gave me HIS version of  "love"
which was really lust coated in false promises and "Baby, I love you!"
He gave me self doubt
This ugly present that I unwrap every day with each decision I make
He gave me narcissistic words and teasing..
That I went along because at that time I thought that it was signs of affection.
He gave me "I don't want to be seen with you.. BUT we can still meet up to have *** on dates X Y AND Z!"
Dates of HIS choosing
***...
He.. gave me ***
a one way ticket to pleasure that CAME and WENT when HE wanted.
The rest of the time I would get empty texts, no replies.. and a deeper meaning of the word "player" than I'd like..
HE gave me constant fear of the words "We need to talk"
He gave me hours of crying in my room at night..feeling HORRIBLE about myself while HE slept like a baby or went out and partied, or WHATEVER he did when he was ignoring me.
He gave me a taste of something sweet, so I would be hooked to the manipulation and pain of what came after..
He gave me relationship PTSD and issues that I still have today!
He.. gave me.. a reason.. to.. find..
You.
You give me hope
You give me a world where I can start over
You give me butterflies in my stomach, and sparkles in my eyes
You give me my inspiration for new songs and poems
You give me glue to fix my broken pieces instead of sledgehammer to break them further
You give me my legs to stand on
You give me a world where I can be MYSELF!
You give me a world where I can be whatever I want and say "Here I am world! Love me FOR ME!"
you give me safe space in your arms
A place where I can run to when the demons break down the doors of my defenses..
You give me "It's okay baby.. I got you"
You have given me someone to call my friend, boyfriend and potential soulmate for 5 months
You have given me the best gift you could
You.. have given me..
myself back
This is a comparison poem about an abusive relationship I was in, to the one I am currently in. I know it's longer than most poems on here. I think it is worth the read.
