That love and laughter have survived
Nothing in this world is free
This Ugly Duckling becomes a swan when he looks at me
When you open up the spaces that yesterday and time erases
Sometimes you go it alone
Lonely is like a discarded bone
Guess it’s true, I survived the pain
Since then love is different but yet the same
Maybe happy to be alive at 65
We jump the hurdles and find a way to thrive
We live life completely in awe
For all, we have been through and never really saw
Doesn’t matter about not being called when choosing sides for basketball

It's raining.
It's pouring.
The ark might have to get here.
There's a pigeon furiously flapping her wings on someone's roof.
Maybe a signal or cry for help?
After a few minutes of struggle, another bird joins her.
Flies up and calms her down.
They fly away and the drama ends on a very rainy day

Spent an afternoon celebrating our nephew's birthday
Have you ever encountered joy and love for a little boy
He knew him better than I did
Those moments with his sharing left an indelible mark
We love the same person

Dew point and humidity brings out wilting rag doll
Bust through other days but this one was different
So many wanting to live life and celebrate and yet the Fat Lady has not sung yet

They are far and few between but one reared its ugly head yesterday

Knowing the signs I just went with the gloom and doom until it lifted
Trigger beats me
Knowing so many have had hundred days of issues beyond our control

Blue-watered lullabies
accompany your eyes
my treasure chest beckons
Rippled memories swirling
Circles near a gulls wing play in the water
Too many shells and seaglass to enjoy and carry
Yet, I do take their memory with me
The ocean carries me
Cliffs call out because they noticed the dolphin gang
trying to get closer earlier on
We've walked on water because the sand never kept us still
You know a greater truth that because keep secret in a place known to those like us
Still falling deeper than a submarine can submerge with you

As Christmas, Kwanza, and Chanukah celebrations take their shape

Darkness was my only friend
My friends had no idea and maybe a clue
Even Happily married because had to find my way back to him
He has been there every step of the way
Patience and help brought me through the storms
They still return but not as often
Walk them and write them away
Find ways to help others even though they might not be aware that I care
You will find it
No matter what it is to soothe things
Asking for help that was the most difficult part
Admitting something was more than off kilter
Even though I have been there
Just know it is different for everybody
2020 didn't help and it lingers

Driving to JFK dreaming about the places we would travel to
Walking the World’s Fair grounds and gazing at the Unisphere

Hopefully more goals and promises to share and keep
More stamps on our passports
The Belt Parkway, the beginning of us
It is not the end
We just have to keep traveling on other highways
Somehow when we are on the Belt Parkway Nassau or Suffolk bound
It reminds me of how we began
September 14, 1979 introduced me to the best person that came into my life
1980 seems like yesterday but is part of us today and tomorrow

Being depressed and having Depression are very different
Been there and know from my heart
Depression is a disease and should be treated as such
Treatment can vary from talk therapy and sometimes medication
Not all require it ,I did not require it
Seeking a physician shed a lot of light on the dark place I was in
No matter how things get rely on everything out there
Just talking it out is not the only answer
Writing poetry was the vehicle that saved my life but somebody saw the problem
My past was examined by reading things I wrote long ago
Things shared with nobody

Hard to remember the sound and timber of how you spoke
All the things we could have done and would have done
Alas only in my dreams
Yet, every time rainbows find us

Can't fix the situation you are in
Putting a band-aid on won't help either
Cliches and best words won't be enough
They tell you that you have to deal but that is another four-letter word
Situations work themselves out but while others bubble up again
You have to take the very best care of yourself and that is easier said than done
Grief has no timetable
People can listen and be there for you but somethings are better left unsaid and you will find what works best for you
Time and reflection are your best allies
It gets better but the wounds never completely heal
Just remember that live and evil are also four-letter words
The former is what you must do and the latter is hopefully not within you

When the past and the present collide
It is easier to put events in prospective and remember that you were bullied
Older school thinking was to ignore it or go with the in one ear and out the other theory
Newer school ideas are still under construction and Artificial Intelligence may solve it yet
It brands you and marks you most of your life
Even though you eventually come shining through
You still feel ugly and it echoes louder when people look at you
When he looks at me I am reminded that Ugly Ducklings become swans at least in his blue eyes

Almost like a Senior citizen with memories worth repeating but nobody listening
Nobody paid it any mind but it refused to be thrown away
Needed to be useful but there was nothing to do but press on somehow
It didn't escape pickup this time like a shelter dog hoping their forever home would be with the next visitor
That bagged was filled with yesterday with no thoughts of today or tomorrow
