ON SEEING ONE ON A LADY’S BONNET AT CHURCH Ha! whare ye gaun, ye crowlin ferlie! Your impudence protects you sairly: I canna say but ye strunt rarely Owre gauze and lace; Tho’ faith, I fear ye dine but sparely On sic a place. Ye ugly, creepin, blastit wonner, Detested, shunned by saunt an’ sinner, How daur ye set your fit upon her, Sae fine a lady! *** somewhere else and seek your dinner, On some poor body. Swith, in some beggar’s haffet squattle; There ye may creep, and sprawl, and sprattle Wi’ ither kindred, jumpin cattle, In shoals and nations; Whare horn or bane ne’er daur unsettle Your thick plantations. Now haud ye there, ye’re out o’ sight, Below the fatt’rels, snug an’ tight; Na faith ye yet! ye’ll no be right Till ye’ve got on it, The vera tapmost, towering height O’ Miss’s bonnet. My sooth! right bauld ye set your nose out, As plump an’ grey as onie grozet: O for some rank, mercurial rozet, Or fell, red smeddum, I’d gie ye sic a hearty dose o’t, *** dress your droddum! I *** na been surprised to spy You on an auld wife’s flainen toy; Or aiblins some bit duddie boy, On’s wyliecoat; But Miss’s fine Lunardi!—fie! How daur ye do’t? O Jenny, dinna toss your head, An’ set your beauties a’ abread! Ye little ken what cursed speed The blastie’s makin! Thae winks and finger-ends, I dread, Are notice takin! O, *** some Power the giftie gie us To see oursels as others see us! It *** frae monie a blunder free us An’ foolish notion: What airs in dress an’ gait *** lea’e us, And ev’n Devotion!

When biting Boreas, fell and doure, Sharp shivers thro’ the leafless bow’r; When Phœbus gies a short-liv’d glow’r, Far south the lift, Dim-dark’ning thro’ the flaky show’r, Or whirling drift: Ae night the storm the steeples rocked, Poor Labour sweet in sleep was locked, While burns, wi’ snawy wreeths upchoked, Wild-eddying swirl, Or thro’ the mining outlet bocked, Down headlong hurl. List’ning, the doors an’ winnocks rattle, I thought me on the ourie cattle, Or silly sheep, wha bide this brattle O’ winter war, And thro’ the drift, deep-lairing, sprattle, Beneath a scar. Ilk happing bird, wee, helpless thing! That, in the merry months o’ spring, Delighted me to hear thee sing, What comes o’ thee? Whare wilt thou cow’r thy chittering wing An’ close thy e’e? Ev’n you on murd’ring errands toil’d, Lone from your savage homes exil’d, The blood-stain’d roost, and sheep-cote spoil’d My heart forgets, While pityless the tempest wild Sore on you beats.

A Winter Night
The sea has immersed you, clearing your pores Soaking and weighing you down swoosh it roars; The bright sun stands gleaming, beaming Reducing your moles into vapour puff drifting Ah the freedom,All senses afloat Denying gravity of its quote.. Nature crafts you, while you keep rolling like a stone on a mountain, who streams the course never denying it's mode. Sure it makes for a great pebble But what if it wants to be a glorious gravel silently basking in the sun, sipping on sea, footholding trespassers perhaps aboding fleas.. abiding rules may shatter your inner zest with ease.. Aren't you tired of fighting someone else's battle.. When will you win your sprattle?
