"plankton" poems
There is a vast Ocean we call the Universe. In it are Galaxies like Plankton. Within them are Stars Systems like Cells. The Stars themselves are like Nuclei, are surrounded by Planets like Ribosomes, Vesicle, Rough and Smooth endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, Cytoskeleton, Mitochondria, Vacuole, Cytosol, Lysosome, Centrioles within Centrosome. And sometimes in the planets are Civilizations like Atoms. Within these civilizations are People, some Positive like Protons, some Negative like Electrons, and some who just don't give a **** just like Neutrons. Making every single thing an Important (but Not Better than the other) part of the Whole System.

A scuba diver, head first like a dolphin,
goes in to the ocean, 100 feet down
in semi-darkness finds this apparition
something beautiful to behold in motion,
really really big and mysterious it appears
gliding gracefully spewing wonderment,
inviting reverence from all kinds of marine life
Clearly apologetic, for being out of place,
though he has encroached, in to a world
though not far from the sea surface,
yet in a depth where human has no place
all his scientific temper got evaporated
a simple villager now, gripped by wonder.
All he could think of anyone
fitting in to such magnificence
was God Almighty,himself.
"How do you do God?" he stutters,
aware that in plankton filled darkness
the mighty man is at the mercy of
the behemoth, looming large above.
The phenomenon in question,
***** whale"as we know him,
smiles and burps happily "Fantastic"
then he dives 6000 feet down, looking
for a colossal squid, succulent to be sure
the whole reason for him to play God
at this depth for sea creatures that lose
bearing in the haze of challenging depths.

I get overwhelmed
by the idea that
there are people much more successful
and happier
and powerfull
than me
it makes me feel smaller than
the smallest grain of sand
in the big sahara
because I can't be such things
I get overwhelmed
by the idea that
there are people less successful
and sadder
and less powerful
than me
it makes me feel smaller than
the smallest plankton
in the big ocean
because i can't help them
This keeps me awake at nights

You walked in
a pool of sharks
knowing where the good fish is
and the plankton floats
You were floating in
a great ocean of possibilities
some so foreign, your eyes dilated
some so familiar you felt elated
You slid next to great whales of knowledge
and shook the tentacles with wise octopi
with strands of experience
You got bitten by piranhas of isolation
and even bled internally from bumping shoulders
with beautiful heartless corals
Then one day you met a seashell and her friend
you marveled at the intricate art of nature
and became friends
this time you had the courage to knock
Not all hard exteriors
reflect tough
personalities
You just
had to
knock

I want you
more than Plankton
wants the Krabby Patty secret formula.
I need you
more than Wile E. Coyote
needs functional ACME products.
I love you
more than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles love pizza,
more than Winnie the Pooh loves honey,
more than Scooby-Doo loves Scooby Snacks.

The tide pulls in
and sine waves intersect,
surf scalloping and cresting, small,
breeding pearly foam into sea breeze.
Your breath pulls in,
skin washing over collarbones,
ribs expanding to swallow oceans––
another kind of wave. I feel my soul swell and fall into place.
The tide makes eddies––
gulls cleave shimmering half-circles in the air,
partition wind with meat, voices.
Sand swirls around my feet and is dragged out to sea––
Your skin makes eddies.
Conversations sink like round stones
and your toes open wide, sweeping arcs in the sand.
My heart beats just over three times.
The sea feeds trillions.
Ships wreck and barnacles forge their homes,
and fish school in Fermat spirals.
Plankton absorb sunlight and divide exponentially.
Your liver feeds trillions.
Arms envelope me
and nestle into the hollow under my spine––
I press my lips against your sternum, starving.
The sea pulls out.
The moon's orbit decays
four centimeters every year––
the disparity destroys worlds.
Your breath pulls out.
I cup sea glass and small, smooth shells,
my footprints forming acute angles to yours––
this disparity destroys worlds.

The prison bus
passes this way
every now and then,
surfacing without
warning—a leviathan
of metal, grease, and glass
its dark windows secured
by squares of rusted wire
its diesel engine heart
spewing exhaust that
turns morning rain
the color of seawater.
The prison bus
does not stop
for stop signs;
red lights are nothing
but violent memories
strung in an overcast sky.
When the bus strikes
something in its path
the prisoners bounce
slightly in their seats,
lifted into
impartial air
liberated
momentarily
by the familiar
co-conspirators
of blood and laughter.
In his dreams,
the guard who
drives the prison bus
circumnavigates the globe,
plowing through clouds
of insects that shimmer
like fuel above the road.

the beach is for losing yourself
i ask you what manner of man or beast could ignore its siren song
it dragged our silly smiles across the sand
feet trailing giddily behind us
we slipped wearied into the warm unceasing avalanche
and a year was washed away
in the thunderous salt rinse
the beach is for best friends and for beer
it is for games beneath the stars
while a plankton metropolis fluoresced underfoot
and a meteor grazed the spine of leo
we slumbered through brooding rains
that slunk away when we awoke to stare them down
white shapes cast slender shadows on the reeds at noon
sea breezes crooned tunes every child has always known
in languages no man will ever understand
the beach is for all of us
last night we dreamt of ancestral slimes marching out of it
today let us plunge in
it is for even creeping snakes and gnawing fleas
verily
but most of all
it is for your glistening face
for two sleepy seagreen eyes accustoming themselves to the bright shores of morning
while your coffee cooled on the camp stove
it is for the sheen of your wild brown arms
the surf of your laughter
words with which you filled a quiet moment
circling in my mind like gulls over the harbor
yes most of all
most of all
it is for you
speeding down the narrow cape
i was beside you
tapping in tandem with your electronic music
realizing more with every pastel cottage flickering by
that you had found me
and i had never felt
so safe

thus do learn how to tolerate
the blow of wings
of the most inflammable flesh
after the successful sacrifice of the student-hostel
jumping into the peacock-foams
how dangerously is changing the total travel-route of the nail-polish
in the high tide of the coconut-kernel
that conquers the world
today the water-pigeon gets pain
only by the flute made of palm-leaf
can’t be written the pleasure-trip in boat
of the injured-knee night-queen that is deposited heavily
on the collar of the village-moonlight
even-then the gramophone would be playing on
even-then the courageous pheasant would proceed further
to throw towards the squirrel a dinner-sleep
then all the daughters in disguise of birds certainly
may come out from within the salted mosquito-net
burning open-ground in their eyes
even after
the small boats of the fig leaves
would slip from the chorus song
of the roses
then they are to be pulled forward to the river-bed
of the late afternoon
to make them understand again
that such Xerox-centre which can ignore its metallic-birth
does not grow even now on either side of this muddy road
so look at to see how the epenthesis
of the screwpine-leaf withdraws her beak from the old dome
and pours
all new mathematics
into the compact-disc stitched with the back of the sea-tortoise
if that’s not real
how in the left and right
such evil-company of the oxygen would creep
if the next part of this commentary
resumes from the umbilicus cavity of the x-mass
would the blood-sugar of the water-plankton be rising continuously
look there again
the feather of colour that is in her adolescence
touches the cold magnet of her gamut
to disperse the cherry orchards
now if the doors of this brown triangle be got open
you can see on the screen one by one
the projection of the apex-points of the red-palash
and in the night-texture of the kathakali-kathak
they are supplying continuously
small sun-shines in poly-packs

Having these thoughts
we do not stand by
They shoot into consciousness
and simply ride by
They have a life of their own
we are just an observing agent
Living the life that they form.
Oh, i wish we could hold on to each one
like a deck of cards
Sort through the old annoying ones
keep living with just the good and pleasant ones
We could play them with perfect control and authority
Make the best decisions -
Life would follow accordingly.
Sadly it's not at all that simple
as i’m sure we all know
If you think that it’s different
well, we can have a go
Though
It's true! We are more than passive pieces of debris
Even plankton make micro adjustments in the current it inhabits
Unfortunately, this does not necessarily mean there is meaning in the movements

We're GIANTS on a toy-top spinning-speck
space-bound swallowed;
joining harmonics
in gyrating clock work's working;
catching gears of time's time
circling Ra's warmth
We're GIANTS on a toy-top spinning-speck
bellicosing great power's glory;
dwarfed into a vast cosmic oblivian
likened to a speck
of plankton
in a whales belly

Let's get married in Vegas.
Cheap rings.
Cheap wine.
Let's have a ramen noodle dinner party.
A quaint occasion.
In our quaint cottage.
Let's dive into the ocean
Floating among the plankton.
Glowing like stars in the sea.

The grand scheme, void of me, stands in stoic devotion
To zero compulsion
It holds no emotion
What a notion
I'm feelin' like a single plankton
In a vast ocean
Aimlessly floatin'
In a seemingly meaningless motion

Sailor come hither and harken our song
and be calm and becalmed on our uncharted sea,
and unhindered by storms that would sully thy sails
and the thunderous waves that would pummel thy decks;
oh sailor come hither and harken our song
and our voices will sing joy to thee
Rejoice and remain in the waters we share
with the planks and the plankton, the rainbow of fishes,
the garments of sailors and whalers with whale tattoos
over their chests and their necks;
oh sailor remain in the waters we share
and our voices will bring joy to thee
Swim deep to the depths of our uncharted ocean
And see the fine wrecks of the ships of thy fathers,
the littered bones strewn from the deck hands in hand-me-downs,
anchor chains rusting and bells of submariners;
oh sailor swim deep to the depths of our ocean
and our voices will give joy to thee
Draw breath from the water to taste the fine fragrance
of wines and of gold and the many fine horses
that sailed from old cities to trade with the new towns
and ventured to hear of our song of their happiness;
oh sailor draw breath from the waters fine fragrance
and our voices will sing oft of thee

Penguins painted pink,
peacefully practising pragmatic pebble placement.
Perfectly pointy piles, please!
Profoundly pious Pandas ponder pancreatic problems,
predict potential palsy.
Prognosis? Perilously poor.
Pale porpoises proudly plunge purple pools,
placidly pasturing petrified plankton.
Poor protozoans perish.
Portly, paunchy, plumpish, porcine, porky pigs
populate putrid puddles,
Pulverizing pumpkin pies.
Purposely Prickly porcupines pursue palatable plants,
pin-pointing precisely.
Puce petunias preferred.
Pill popping puppet people perpetuate planetary perdition,
pardon profuse pollution.

Schools of fish
Racing to the King's submerged hold
To pass a collective wish.
A procession led
Unfathomable leagues between the sky
To the One's bed.
From her birthcry rang
Sonic upon waves in all Seas
Bringing promise she sang.
In a voice that shamed
The very Sirens, their infamy
At birth she had tamed.
Tempests brewed in
Nine Seas and in denizens thereof
The palpable rush was no illusion.
Gargantuan fissures marked
The arrival of the Prophet,
As Dogfishes in the streets barked.
Coral caves echoed
News of the Deliverer
Back across the ocean and forth.
The Princess is birthed!
Rejoice! Swim to the King!
Of enthusiasm, was no dearth.
Millions of clans
Puffer, Cat and Gold, with servants in many
***** Oysters and Clams.
Eels, flying overhead
With Mantas in quick pursuit
Each racing to meet the beloved.
The nobility too was en route
Great White, the Hammer and Tiger
Forgetting around them, all the food.
Clownfish prepared their jokes
Animatedly chuckling at the time
The king called them funny blokes.
From every nook and corner
Of every Ocean, and Sea
Burst life even in lakes and rivers.
Drifting slow yet steady
The convergence occurred at the King's Hold.
The feast now ready.
Reef and plankton
In a million hues waved like banners
Proclaiming the royal standard.
Seahorses stood en garde
All semblance of a heavy cavalry
Songs were sung by the Bard.
Rows upon rows
Of aquatic subjects
Gazed upwards as the Herald bellowed.
All hail King Teal!
All hail the Princess!
The citizens went mad with zeal.
They raised their arms
As the King raised his own pair
Only to raise alarm.
The babe was godly
Hair as green as kelp
Translucent flesh glowing boldly.
Every colour ever known
Etched across her fins and legs
Majestic, regal, radiating joy unknownst.
Tears diluted the currents
As the folk witnessed their saviour
And cheered in a torrent
Of squeals, laughter and shouts
Praising till the land dwellers heard them
These fanatics most devout.
Thus was the day
Naifin was born into the Sea
Queen of Oceans, she was to be.

She gave me the Plankton
The lowest lifeform of her being.
Anointed with this discovery
I too gave in and shared with her a deep
and impenatrable solace within me.
Such truths arent always shown in sight
of others.
Nor are they whispered in ear shot,
But somehow
She burrowed right through them.
Empathy in a female form!
And not jaded and wrought with thoughts of imorality.
Day by Day she would come and take frlom me these
deviant caverns and restlless ideals sprung forth from
absence of maturity in child hood and loss of faith
as a growing man in the seamingly uncommon trait and
beauty each human claims the next has deep within.
The savage mastication of delerious greed
Usually self righteous. Sweetlt nipping at the arms of the impoverished.
the malady spreading further through while the ogres stomp their feet for attention
puffing up their chest like creatures and only for a moments pay they contract a virus
all to familiar in their learned ways.
her delicate hands grouping at the flesh id presented brushing away the small
inconsistences and as i vaguely remember now and to this day
she slipped a finger inside and in the membranes and masses an ease would fall over me.
the rush of expelling all that ales you within is a euphoria like no other.
Yet each time she would leave something behind.

......Finding the words
to describe the feelings.....
Just by moving through the ocean
Inside, I am swimming,
swimming to get away,
swimming to come home
to what I knew.
I know I can never be the same again
Knowing what I know now.
I feel the hollow dust of
of confusion
swirling inside me
I feel my impossibility---
like I am trying
to catch
each dust particle:
every old idea I have ever had,
before it lands and
makes me sneeze --only to blow
all the dust particles back into chaos,
so I hold my breath....
.....pause....
....breathe in.....
...exhale ....s l o w l y .......
.....embody this moment....
and become, one who CAN.
...leave this terrestrial moment....
...and go into the water....
And when I imagine
I am the whale,
I am the vastness within and around
I can just breathe and swim
I catch
all the plankton spinning in chaos
after they have been
cast into the ocean currents
and the plankton come to me,
the plankton feed me
one by one--
I can fill my belly
with all these
d o t s o f
f o o d
Gathering, harvesting,
plankton combing through my baleen,
I am fed, I am nourished,
just by moving through the ocean.
I am free.

Twenty minutes, lost.
I though I had been under my steadily flowing deity for hours. I thought I had had a spiritual experience lasting longer than Genesis.
But it was only twenty minutes.
Twenty minutes
Of standing naked under falling water, feeling soap suds and scratchy cleansers and sharp tangles
Cleaning my skin and my soul of my physical reminder of my connection to the river
To the world
Thinking only flesh and water, flesh and water.
It was the mantra in my head.
We are all just flesh and water.
I was ripping through the harsh curls of my hair thinking flesh and water
Flesh and water.
I caressed my goddess, my god, my spirit, nature’s spirit
When I caressed the showerhead.
I saw it clean me of the plankton of the natural water and replace it with synthetic chemicals
To keep me sanitary and acceptable.
Twenty minutes.
It felt like that was how long it took for the blade to run across my skin, my wet-and-dry-sand skin. Twenty minutes running up from the product of the hills to the home of my womanhood.
I noticed how the man-made razor matched a section of veins on my wrist.
Twenty minutes.
In twenty minutes that were actually twenty lifetimes I became Pocahontas, daughter of Earth and sister of water.
I felt my connection to what sustains me and it changed me.
How did twenty minutes seem so long
Under the florescent lights?

From birth
he fed on her snow
her sun,
her sweat,
her tears,
her ancient years.
he swam between
her skinny ways,
shrouded in seaweed
in shallows he stole
her plankton.
slick and spiny
he preyed,
electric
he shocked,
and shadowed
her moonlight thunder.
poked his head
in her crevices,
rode in her waves,
and stirred her current.
But he was in her,
like the snow.
And despite his bad manners,
she preferred him inside her
than to be stuck on the sand,
in another's land.

The solution to pollution
Is to cease affluent effluent.
In other words make the rich
Live in their ecological excrement.
Force them to drink only from
Their permanently poisoned pipes
And turn a deaf ear, as they did
To any of their constituent’s gripes.
The enemies of the anemones
Fought their way to the deep
To censure and make sure
The sea creatures had no sleep.
It seems the corporations
Don’t realize what they’re doing.
If we **** off the plankton, then
We’re headed for planetary ruin.
It was bad enough when someone,
Without telling us, sold our land
And then they chopped down trees
For a reason anyone can understand;
Greed. That was the proper word.
They wanted more money in the bank.
So when the land erodes and dies
We’ll have the corporations to thank.
They cover up their eco-crimes
By declaring illegal military forays
And pretend they are taking us back
To those good old, happier days.
But in between bombing villages
It can always plainly be seen
That we and our country are
Slowly being picked totally clean.
And when we object, cry out loud
That something is wrong with all this;
They start to call us unpatriotic,
Call us who starve are the neurotics.
So, don’t listen to their lying rhetoric,
Instead look at what they are doing.
The sonsabitches are Macbeth’s witches,
And they have a lot of poison brewing.

human plankton
me

looking up

above me

pushing my way up through the thick layers of human plankton
upwards
for just one, just one

My friends call me by Sim Salobin my enemies dont speak my name
I have spent Eons so I wouldn't be known, its only through others you would see my fame
I don't ask for very much, you may not know me by touch, but if you are a friend you can call my name
I can be gentle or I can rage very quickly
I have killed and have brought rain to places where there is terrible drought
Judge me if you will for its empty boots I fill in fact you will never see me
I have been all around the world in every possible way the Earth (Mother) is round
from around the equator or from North to South Pole I am everywhere
I am called cruel and it is said I just dont care
But without the trees and Plankton and me, what would you do for your air?
I dont try to hurt people or the trees who are my good friends
Yes Wizards and Mages can stir me, they even may be able to call me, but they will get very little for their trouble
So if you dont think of me or even know where I might begin
Remember this if you will? it's quite Elemental, and try to understand. I mean I mean no one ill,
so if you need to give me a name just call me the Wind
