"Save me, Sabrina fair. You're the only one who can." Are you Linus Larabee? Am I Sabrina Fairchild? I fear I cannot be the savior that you ask of me. You see, I cannot save you But I can love you And love can save you

Save Me, Sabrina Fair
Charles Schulz brought us Charlie Brown, Who rarely smiled, joked, or sang. A troubled soul—always down, He hung out with the Peanuts Gang. Lucy, Patty, Sally, Linus, Snoopy—the whole nerdy clan Tried to cheer ole Charlie up; But sadly it was all in vain. Life has many a Charlie Brown, We see them come as well as go. For, as in Schulz's masterpiece, We tend, somehow, to love them so. Too, we try our hand at luck, Tryin' to cheer ole Charlie up. -Walterrean Salley

Sonnet for Charles Schultz's 'Charlie Brown'
I want a nobody. A faceless commuter swearing as the machine ignores his credit card. Or the guy two tables to the left who isn’t checking his watch because he isn’t waiting on someone. Any hoodie-wearing, adidas-laced, prospective english major rambling along the sidewalk. I want a nobody. ‘Cause there’s never a somebody that won’t say “I love you” because it’s numbed by too many mouths that don’t form their lips the right way. The somebodies slide it off their careless tongues— because little words are pennies in tip jars. But Nobody, he’ll say I love the way you put on a jacket like some kind of whip-snap in the lapels and collar tipping your chin up and hooking your silver-ringed thumbs in the pockets and I love how you flip through books eager to break the spine but not fold the pages holding your breath to hold the focus propping open a paperback between long tapered fingers and how the barista at the coffeeshop knows your face! and blush rises like foam on your cheeks because it’s so ******* incredible how when you drum your fingers you don’t drum you press into a phantom piano the treble clef of Linus and Lucy or The Entertainer or, if your eyes have already gotten deeper —in a mossy well of thought— it’ll be Augustana’s Boston dancing C-E-C-E-G-E-C-E in the jumping tendons of your right hand. * oh darling, I’m in love with your clumsy movements when you fall into bed wrapping a thick comforter over your bare shoulders curling your legs as you settle on your side hair fanned out on the bedsheet because the pillow’s too close to the wall but lovely, I don’t love you because I’m not real at all

. One of these days she will love me-- One of these days she'll call... One of these days she won't pull away. She's gonna let me kick that darned ball. Because I'm gonna run out of Xanax, and her sign will say that she's in. One of these days I'm going to kick that darned ball. One of these days-- I will win. There's times I love that red headed girl, and my Beagle thinks he can fly. One of these days I'm gonna kick that darned ball-- Does she really want see to 'ol Chuck cry? One of my friends is covered in dirt, in town I am known as a clown. One of these days you will know me by name-- My friend Linus, he calls me Charlie Brown.

~One of These Days
I never meant to break your heart I never meant to walk out that night I never meant to make you cry I never meant to assassinate a part of you I never meant to die that night I never meant to run away I never meant to Please believe I never meant to You see, I was always afraid You were touching a part of me that I never thought anyone could It felt so strange but it felt so right And I hope you understand that it was too much for me at time So I simply took a break Running as fast as I could to the other side of the world But when I finally arrived I realized I had made a great mistake But I convinced myself that it was already too late I never muscled up the courage to return home to you I thought maybe you'd be upset with me That you would never forgive me Just causing me to really die inside But I started to think that maybe I deserve to Just thinking about how I must've made you feel I began to cry every night starring at an old picture of you Then I made up my mind that I was coming back home to you But when I finally arrived I realized I had made another mistake Because all I saw was you smiling away I don't know what I really expected I mean you were always too beautiful to be single forever I see you got the two kids you always wanted A boy and a girl named them Linus and Aries I'm so happy for you You fulfilled your dream Then to make it even better you forgave me I should be so elated, jumping in so much joy But for the life of me I can't even put on a fake smile So I walked away again This time I went to the lake by the old house we bought together Then I pulled out the gun you brought me for my birthday Finally I closed my eyes and began to pray Next thing I know I was dead I never meant to break your heart I never meant to walk out that night I never meant to make you cry I never meant to assassinate a part of you I never meant to die that night I never meant to run away I never meant to Please believe I never meant to

There's nothing quite like cuddling you Early in the morning While the house lies still and quiet And it feels like all the world is fast asleep Your bristly chin rubbing across my forhead Your eyes smiling seductively with your **** lips Hungry, yet gentle, your fingertips move across my hips I burrow down against your chest There's nowhere safer than here in your arms The scent of your skin like Linus' blanket to my soul

My Snuggle-bug
For Hannah She's sitting at the kitchen table, Full of strep and forced to read a book by a mom who believes the mind can continue to flourish while its carrying case suffers. Forcing fluids, killing biotic enemies She sits silently while I listen to the Happiest Music I know, Linus and Lucy; She frowns, more from pain than distaste. Mom cooks lasagna and brother scouts the fridge. Nothing looks good She thinks. She says. She feels.

Sick and Laid Low
I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 9 Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me: 10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry. 12 And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus. 13 The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments. 14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works: 15 Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words. 16 At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. 17 Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. 18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 19 Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 20 Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick. 21 Do thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren. 22 The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.

I, Fish Eye
GULA Castor and Pollux joined forever at the hip. I could split myself into two halves just so they could each get a taste. I will etch into both their ribs and lungs so when they exhale, it’s my name that warms their breath. ACEDIA I have done nothing but consult oracles to find a solution and like Oedipus I will sit here on my throne to repeat fathers' sins. Dear God, am I the miasma that reeks here? Would I change, if so? LUXURIA Eros and Psyche have yet to match us, dear boys. In confessional, I speak of the flesh- bruised like rotting fruit, marks of desperate youth. Heads bowed in prayer, this is Dionysiac ritual madness. AVARITIA Will Hades greet me? If I spit coins from my mouth, will the ferryman take pity on me? He must know my odyssey. This is déjà vu, a fable passed down by generations. A hymn, Homeric and worn. IRA Adonis river runs red like veins filled with blood. The anemones for my two brothers, a crown for each of them to   decorate their heads before guts are spilled. I know this will end in war, no glory for me. INVIDIA Heroes never die, they say. So was Heracles jealous of Linus? To know forever, to escape the throes of death sounds like Hell to me. What lives on except curses and their tragedy? I am no hero. SUPERBIA I will take my fire, let it blaze until I die. Prometheus would have been proud of me. Maybe from this, I will kindle something from the heat: Write poems in ash, for the ones I have scalded, or the ones I love. (Maybe those two things are not unlike after all. Maybe so, maybe not.)

Changes
Can you be to me what that baby blue blanket was to Linus, the younger brother of Lucy? Can I meet someone I can hold and have all of my stress melt away? I know this may seem weird but as cynical as I sometimes can be there is a softer side to me trust and believe not very many see this often because in this crazy world you have to be strong, never soften.
