CONTENDING FOR THE FAITH
  Certain men, described by Jude,
  As ungodly filthy dreamers,
  Condemned unto judgment,
  Evil speakers and flesh defilers

  Have subtly and secretly made themselves
  A part of the Christian faith,
  Purposely undermining salvation
  with ungodly speeches against God’s Grace.

Who are these insolent filthy dreamers
Who speak evil against Dignities with
                              disdain?
“Woe unto them” says the Apostle Jude,
“Woe unto Balaam, Core and Cain.”

Representative are these three of
The self-righteous for salvation,
The self-seeking for prestige and power,
The worshipper of wealth and mammon.

These are spots, ugly, despicable spots
In your love feast celebrations.
With all boldness and fearlessness,
They join you without invitation.

These are the murmurers, the complainers,
The mockers, of the soon  return of Christ,
As prophesied by Jesus and the Apostles,
     that in the last days they would arise.

In view of such apostates as these,
Be praying in the Holy Ghost, Beloved,
And building yourselves up in the Spirit,
Be living daily in the sphere of God’s love.

Having compassion on the innocent deceived,
The sincere soul drawn into a damning lair;
And others, addicted to chains of sin,
With great caution, ****** from the fire.

This, then, is the message of God,
With compassion, caution and love,
Be ready always to contend for the faith,
For the glory and majesty of God above.

DOUBT NOT GOD'S FAITHFULNESS
FAITHFUL TO THE LORD
   The Bible tells of a man called Job,
Whose life was filled with great discord.
He lost all his family and fortune,
But through it all was faithful to the Lord.
            chorus
Faithful to the Lord, Faithful to the Lord,
My Brother and Sister, be faithful to the Lord!
Yes faithful to the Lord, faithful to the Lord,
Be like Job, be faithful to the Lord.

Have your friends all turned their backs upon you,
And left you walking all alone?
Just remember, God is always faithful,
and will love and keep you as his own.

To Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,
God's promise of faithfulness was given,
To Joshua, the Judges of Israel,
And to a man called Gideon.

Yes my friends, doubt not  God's faithfulness,
Read the long list of men and women
to whom God was faithful to supply of their needs.
Found in the book of Hebrews, chapter eleven.

Jerry Howarth Oct 2021
This is not a poem, this is a story of a an 83 yr old man, that
got away with lying aboat his actual age, so he could box,
for the light weight Dallas County Iowa, championship.

"Howath is the name and these are my two knock out fists, Gerald
and Ron, and I'm here to sign up for the light heavy weight championship boxing title of Dallas County."

That was my official registration to the County boxing Commisson.
They of course ask me my age and some other questions related to
my boxing experience, to which I lied very convincingly.

By the way, the way to lie convincinly is to literally believe yourself what you are lying about. I had spent hours telling myself the lies I told the Boxing Commission, so they had no doubt about what I told them about my boxing experience. I even had some fake newspaper articles about my boxing experiences that I printed on my home printing press. I'll tell more about this later in this story.

What motivated me o do this, was the current chjampion was the
Grandson of one of my high school class mates that I detested, because h was such a proud blow hard, about every athletical thing
he did, from being a baseball pitcher, a running back football player,
a wrestler and on and on he bragged about himself. One time when
I could not somach his bragging and pompous ay he walked, I confonted him to his face, actually his chin, as that was as close to
his face I stood. He was aout 6' 4'' and I was slightly over 6'. I looked him in the eyes and told him I and every one else in school was sick
and tired of his bragging about himself.

He then sneared a me, reached down and gabbed me by the coller of my shirt, and said. "Why you little dumb pimpsqueet, you aint nothing but a hog raising farm boy!" and shoved me hard against
the hall way wall, so I smacked the back of  my head against it, and
knocked out for a few minutes, long enough for someone dumping a cup full of water on my face to bring me alert. Then ol blow hard
spread it around that I had attemped to hit him and he "just naturally" defended himself and gave me a little shove.

But back to the main part of this story, I had been working out in the city gym, workig on my cardio, thats my breathing. I had been keeping up with my physical condition all of my life, so for an 83 yr old man  I am in good physical shape. I have been punching the heavy bag on daily basis , and have had someone bouncing a heavy medicine ball on my stomach five minutes every day, so I have  those three muscle stand outs on my stomach, tht every body ooos and aaas about.

I also sparred with young boys around 20 and 30 years old, convincing them I was just 28, by my foot work and bobbing and weaving and left hand jabs. I still had a good head of hair, which I
had dyed a light black, which also convinced the boxing commission that I was 38, actually the year I was bornd, 1938

My boxing bout with the young grandson of this high school class mate that I detested, was suppoe to be just a warm up match for him, in preperation for a title fight. He was the Dallas County Light Heavy Weight champion defending his title against some unbeaten
opponant. My goal was to knock him out, and disqualify his title fight.

Oh yes, I neglected to mention my boxing manager, who was a young 62 year old retired boxer. He didn't grow up in
Dallas County, Iowa,  so he had no idea of my bckground age. He came from New York or New something.  I had him convinced that I was just 38 yrs old also. I grew up in a small town called Clive about 60 miles from Des Moines, were the fight was scheduld. Clive was a town with a population of around 2500 when I lived there. Most of the people who knew me are living under ground,
or in a old folks home, so the secret of my age will not be revealed.
,
This grandson of the school mate I detested, is just like his Dad, a smart mouth, bragging, pompous, cocky strutton show boat. He has no idea who I am, but has already started boasting about what he is going to do t me.

"Hey, I'm only 27 yrs old and this old man I'm fighting is 38 yrs old. Somebody will have to help him through the ropes to get in the ring." "What's an old man like him still thinks he is a boxer?

"He ought to be sitting on his back porch, watching the rabbits and squirrels hop around."

"He claims  to be 38 yrs old, I'll knock him out in 38 seconds in round 3."
   ,
He came to the gym when I was working out one morning to scout me out; I put on an act of being slow and winded.

He yelled at me from a few feet away, "Hey old man, my kid sister
has a faster jab then you. You sure you want to fight me?"

My manager walked up to him, and gave him a double arm shove
out the door, so hard he stumbled. "You big mouth punk, crawl
back in the skunk hole you came from."

                           The Big Fight

I was in the ring first, and was warming up wih litle dance steps I had had learned in a dance studio, which I intended to use on him, BTW  his name was Virgil Thornley, but he took pride in calling himself, "V T"=Very Tuff.

He was taking his time coming to get nto the ring,  and when he did decide to enter, he did so with a bunch of short skirted cheer leading girls dancing to loud music being played. When he approched the ring, two of the girls, squatted down on one knee and VT than made a big show of standing on each of their leg, and pushed himself off, tumbling over the ropes onto the ring apron.
amid 40,000 loud cheering fans.

"Enjoy it while you can VT, becaus in about 15 minutes, five three minute rounds, yu're gonna have 40,000 stunned fans looking at you, sprawled half way under the ring ropes, watchng the referee
waving the fight over."
                                ROUND ONE
JT came quickly to the center of the ring with a stupid looking
grin on is face, hands down, swinging back and forth at his waist level.

I took a couple steps towad him, then through him a big surprize,
that stopped him in his tracks. I did a little two step tap dance, and in the few seconds it took him to recover from surprize, I took a quick step toward him and shot out a left jab, purposly hitting
his right eye. Over my years of boxing experience, I developed a
fast twist at the end of the jab. This little twist would tear the skin
producing a cut in the eyebrow, which it did to VT. I don't think he had ever bee cut before by the way he wiped his eye, leaving his face unprotected, of which I took advantage, and smacked him with
another quick jab on his nose, drawing another spurt of blood.

VT wasn't expexcting such an early barrage of attack, and strted back peddling. Once again, I put on my little tap dance,
to a 40,00 applauding, whistling crowd of men, women and teen agers. By now ol VT had no idea what to do with me. He took a quick look over at his corner for help. And when he did I took a big step foward and planed to quick left jabs on each of his eyes.

I heard the fight annoncer telling the radio listners, he had never seen such a show boating boxer like  Howarth is putting
on. He has VT totally confused, not knowing what to do with
him. He came in to this fight as a warm up for his upcoming defensive championship fight with Scrapiron Peel and he is being bloodied and cut up, by what in the boxing sport is considered old, a man close to his 40's but is moving like a 25 or 26 year old. Folks I don't recall Howarth in any past fights, but uh, hang on a moment Howarth is moving around VT, bobbing, weaving and talking to him, I can't quite read his lips, but someting about going down in uh, some round. Meanwhile VT continues to back peddle away from Howath, who is trying to cut him off....Oh! now Howarth stops chasing him and motioned with his hands to come in and fight. There's the bell ending this third round.

There is some kind of commotion going on behind me.... some one wants to tell me something, but is being detained by the police.
Hey officers, let him talk to me. Folks, this is the crasiest night I have ever experienced, let's see what this old man, I'm serious about Old, He mst be  "Uh how old are you, sir?"

"I'm just a couple years younger than Howarth. We  grew up together in Perry, Iowa. I'm 81 years old and that old man in the ring, he was known as "Howie" is 83 years old and...."

"Hold on just jack rabbit minute! Are you telling me, that Howarth,
  what did you call him? Howie, that boxer in the ring,  beating VT, the current light weight Dallas County champion, is 83 years old? Is that what you are saying?"

"Yep, dats whot Im sayng.We growed up t'gether, in da same school t'gether, wrestled and boxed t'gether, and I'm 81 years old and he was alays 2 yars older'n me, so I knows he is 83 yars old.

Folks., getting back to the igh, VT is circuling to his right to get in position to throw is left hook and then is righ overhand knock ut puncht . I think Howie is aware of what VT is trying and keeps circing to his left.

This is the  the round Howarth bragged he would KO VT. VT is coming out in his usual swagering way, Howarth had him intimiated in the first four rounds, with his little dancing jig and blooding his nose and eye. VT wasn't use to that kind of pressure, but his corner manager and some others that joined him, gave him a little pep talk, and so he has regained his cofidence. As usual Howarth, trys his little tap dance aa he approaches VT, it's gotten a little much and no one is cheering it.

I failed to ask you, old man, your name"

"I was known as Scrapieon in Perry, my real ame isRichard Peel.
Yo said dis is da round Howie is going to lower da boom on this young feller?"

"Well that's what he told the fight reporters in the news paper. But frankly, I have doubts that he can do it. Thus far all I've seen from your friend is  a few left jabs. He hasn't used his right in the entire fight."

"Well you just keep your eyes on his right; what yor going to see is a flurry of left jabs, ad out of nowhere his right and will suddenly show up and that will be the end of the fight."

Well folks there is just three minites left i thos round, if Howie is going to KO VT, he is ging tp alf to get more agressie than, oh,Howie just connected with a double left jab, and another one and he had VT weak leggedfromma barrage of jabs. He looks like he is about to go down OH WOW Howie hit him with a straight right hand punch right between his eyes and VT is on the canvas, tryng too ge up, the count is up to 5, 6,7 VT was up at the cnt of 8 bt collapst. The referee is waving the figt over, and tne Dallas County  light heavy weight champion has been kocked out by Howie Howarth in the 5th round just as he predicted.

“FATHER, FORGIVE THEM”
                            Luke 23:34
}This is a longer write than usual but well worth
time to read it.} GEP

Hello Friends,
        This prayer is possibly the most important and most
        powerful prayer of Jesus.

        He prayed not only for those demanding
        His crucifixion, but for you and me as
        well.

        This prayer of Jesus is doubtless the shortest
        but most powerful prayer spoken by Him,
        because it transcends all generations, back-
        wards embracing all of the old testament
        believers and forward two thousand-eight
        teen years and beyond to the last believer
        in whatever year that may be.

        Now in the transaction of forgiving, there
        must be the offering of forgiveness, and the
        acceptance of the offer.

        God, in the person of His only begotten Son
        Jesus Christ, has offered His forgiveness of
        of all your sins, past, present and sins we
        have not yet committed. But God being
       omniscient knows  what sins we will commit to-
        morrow, and so included in Jesus' prayer
        was all our future sins.

        We all need God's forgiveness, because without
        it we are condemned to the Lake of Fire.
        We must understand, that "The wages, the payoff
        of sin, is death",  i.e. forever dying, yet never dead,
        always suffering in a place God did not create
        for you and I.  So  God has offered to forgive you.
       Will will you accept His offer? How do I accept God's offer,
        you ask? You accept God's forgiveness  by RE
        PENTING OF ALL IN WHICH  YOU ARE NOW
        TRUSTING , so that He will open the gate of
        Heaven to you at the end of this earthly life.

        Yes, no longer trust in all your works of self-
        righteousness, but simply believe IN, not ABOUT
        Jesus Christ, as your sin bearer, Savior, Lord and
        Master.

        This includes all your religious works of
        baptism, church affiliation,  church serving such
        as Sunday school teaching, being an Elder, or the
        holding of some other position in your church.
        These things are all commendable) AFTER you have
        believed in Christ as your personal Savior.

       In’ Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus tells about some very religious
        people that came to Him, boasting about all their
        religious deeds they had done in His Name, expecting
        to be rewarded with entrance into Heaven.

        Countless of millions throughout the world are doing
        the  same  thing  today. You know what Jesus said to them?
        "I never knew you, depart from me, you who work
        iniquity"
       They called their deeds, "wonderful works" and in their
        minds they were wonderful, but in comparison to the
        work of Jesus' suffering and crucifixion on the cross
        for their sins, they were empty works of pride, self-
        righteousness.The Bible declares that all the works of
        man are nothing more than "filthy rags" in contrast to
        His work of righteousness. They would be like  supplying a
       small pebble when what was really needed was a huge two
       hundred ton boulder.

      My friends, if you and I could get to Heaven, offering God
      our little ***** pebbles of works, then Jesus'  death, burial
      resurrection was not necessary. But it was absolutely necessary
     for Jesus to suffer and die on the cross, so that God might offer all
    of humanity His forgiveness of our sins. Understand that He was
     not suffering for His own sins, because He was totally without
     sin. Jesus was bearing your sins as well as mine, so that
     God's law of righteousness might be fulfilled in us,
     THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.

     So how does that work?” you ask. Look at II Corinthians 5:21
    "For God has made Christ to be sin, (not a sinner) for us,
    (That's what Jesus was doing when He allowed Himself to
      be crucified)  He was made sin for us, that we might be made
     the righteousness of God IN HIM"

    So the moment you turn from believing in your own self made
    righteousness, you are IN Christ, and God sees you as one
    who has had your sin debt paid in full, because you are IN His only
     begotten Son and thus you have accepted His full forgiveness.

[Dad, I understand what you are saying here about ‘self-righteousness’, but I’m not sure that’s going to lovingly draw someone to Christ as it sounds like the writer is much holier-than-the-reader. Although it’s accurate, this delivery sort of smacks as an insult from someone they’d consider arrogant or egotistical. The result would be a turn off rather than a turning to Jesus. Maybe I’m wrong here, but that’s just a thought.]

“FATHER, FORGIVE THEM”
Luke 23:34

        Hello, Friend. This prayer of Jesus is possibly the most important and most powerful prayer of Jesus. He prayed not only for those demanding His crucifixion but for you and me as well.

        This prayer of Jesus is the shortest but most powerful prayer spoken by Him, because it transcends all generations backwards, embracing all of the old testament believers and forward two thousand seventeen years and beyond to the last believer in whatever year that may be.

We must understand that "the wages”, the payoff of sin, “is death." That is to say, forever dying, yet never dead, always suffering in a place God did not create for you and me. So God has offered to forgive you. Will you accept His offer? “How do I accept God's offer?” you ask. You accept God's forgiveness by REPENTING OF ALL IN WHICH YOU ARE NOW TRUSTING. Then He will open the gate of Heaven to you at the end of this earthly life.

        Yes, no longer trust in all your works that seem righteous and moral, but simply believe IN, not ABOUT Jesus Christ, as your sin-bearer, Savior, Lord and Master. This includes all your religious works of church affiliation, baptism, church service such as Sunday school teaching, serving as an elder or deacon, or the holding of some other position in your church. These things are all commendable AFTER you have
        believed in Christ as your personal Savior.
In Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus tells about some very religious people that came to Him, boasting about all their
        religious deeds they had done in His Name, expecting to be rewarded with entrance into Heaven.

        Countless of millions throughout the world are doing the same thing today. You know what Jesus said to them? "I never knew you, depart from me, you who work iniquity" They called their deeds, "wonderful works" and in their minds they were wonderful, but in comparison to the work of Jesus' suffering and crucifixion on the cross for their sins, they were empty works of pride, self-righteousness.

        The Bible declares that all the works of man are nothing more than "filthy rags" in contrast to His work of
        righteousness. They would be like supplying a small pebble when what was really needed was huge two
        hundred ton boulder.

        Friend, if you and I could get to Heaven, offering God our little ***** pebbles of works, then Jesus' death, burial and resurrection was not necessary.

        But it was absolutely necessary for Jesus to suffer and die on the cross, so that God might offer all of humanity His forgiveness for our sins. Understand that He was not suffering for His own sins, because He was totally without sin. Jesus was bearing your sins as well as mine, so that God's law of righteousness might be fulfilled in us, THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.

        “So how does that work?” you ask.
Look at II Corinthians 5:21. "For God has made Christ to be sin (not a sinner) for us.” That's what Jesus was doing when He allowed Himself to be crucified. He was made sin for us, that we might be “made the righteousness of God IN HIM"

        So the moment you turn from believing in your own self-made righteousness, you are IN Christ, and God sees you as one who has had your sin debt paid in full, one who is IN His only begotten Son and thus you have accepted His forgiveness.

        The Bible says that "The gift of God is Eternal Life." So be sure to thank God for His gracious gift.

Grampa G.E. Parson
Had A Yard Sale!
      …..By Jerry Howarth
~~~~~~~~JH~~~~~~~~
    - PROSE IN IGNORENTS -
Yeah he did, he put up is yard for sale.
Every where Grampa looked, people were
selling there yards,
       some were even selling their  garage.
       He didn’t know why people were          selling yards and /or garages,
But he decided to sell his garage too,
       So into town he drove, to buy one of          those big red and black garage                 sale signs.
As he drove into town, he saw another strange sign, at least it was strange to Grampa.
In great big letters on a great big sign board it said FLEA MKT.
“Flea Mkt?” Grampa ask out loud, to no one in particular. “Now why would anyone sell fleas? And how did they collect them, and from where”
Curiosity got the best of Grampa, so he made a turn-around in the middle of the street, to talk to the proprietor of this strange product.
“Yes Sir, How can I help you, Old Timer?”
ask the proprietor.
“I was wondering how do you sell your fleas”
Answered Grampa.
“How do I sell my…..AHA HA HA Sell my fleas! That’s one I’ve never heard before. Sell my fleas aha. How many pounds can you handle?”
“Well,just take your time, look around,
I have just about anything in the world  any one could possibly want…anything that is except for fleas. I just sold out of them yesterday, and have not been able to re-
supply them…AHa Ha!”
Grampa got back into his pickup, muttering to himself ” I don’t know what that young feller kept laughing about…..I must have been missing something. I still don’t know…
Awww G.E. y’ol coot, jis forget it.”
Grampa arrived at the hardware store and ask for a Garage Sale sign. As he was paying for it he just casually ask what the going price might be for a nice well kept two car garage.
Several men were within hearing of the question and started laughing along with
the store owner.
“You say you have a two car garage? In that case you will need two signs; one for each side or was you only going to sale one side of your garage? AAHA! HA! HA!”
“Hey Dana! That’s a good one!” said one of the men loitering around the store.
“Yeah Man,” said another, you need TWO signs to sell a TWO car garage”  which produced another round of laughter.
All the time Grampa’s German-Irish was slowly inching themselves to the forefront of his head.
But Grampa, walking in the Spirit, with a soft answer (actually reply)kept the peace,
turned around, gave the laughing men a crooked smile and walked to his pickup and drove on home.
Meanwhile Grandma Parson had been exceedingly busy, putting stuff out near
the sidewalk, with a homemade sign that advertised a sidewalk sale, with coffee, lemonade or ice cold water.
Grampa just set in his pickup watching
People walk around the table upon which
Lay HIS WINNING HOME RUN BASE-BALL and…and “NO NO NO”
Grandpa came flying out of his truck to the lady who picked up Grampa’s First Place
Sales Trophy. He grabbed it out of her hands ad laced ir with his base ball.
Then looking around at other items Grandma had put out to sale; his ball glove,
His spiked all shoes. Looking around more closely Grampa realized that one entire table held all his fishing gear, baseball stuff and other odds  ends of is belongings.
Grampa quietly began picking up everything from the table which displayed his keepsakes, and put them in a large double
Papersack, and put them in a large double paper sack.
And now he understood the terms “yard sale” and “garage sale” but he still wondered why any one would buy fleas.
      Uttatuttut…that’s all folks
Jerry Howarth Feb 2022
This is not a poem, this is a story of a an 83 yr old man, that
got away with lying aboat his actual age, so he could box,
for the light weight Dallas County Iowa, championship.
"Howard is the name and these are my two knock out fists, Tuffy and Tougher and I'm here to sign up for the light heavy weight championship boxing title of Dallas County."
That was my official registration to the County boxing Commission.
They of course ask me my age and some other questions related to
my boxing experience, to which I lied very convincingly.
By the way, the way to lie convincingly is to literally believe yourself what you are lying about. I had spent hours telling myself the lies I told the Boxing Commission, so they had no doubt about what I told them about my boxing experience. I even had some fake newspaper articles about my boxing experiences that I printed on my home printing press. I'll tell more about this later in this story.
What motivated me to do this, was the current champion was the
Grandson of one of my high school classmates that I detested, because he was such a proud blow hard, about every athletically thing
he did, from being a baseball pitcher, a running back football player,
a wrestler and on and on he bragged about himself. One time when
I could not stomach his bragging and pompous way he walked, I confronted him to his face, actually his chin, as that was as close to
his face I stood. He was about 6' 4'' and I was slightly over 6'. I looked him in the eyes and told him I and everyone else in school was sick
and tired of his bragging about himself.
He then sneered a me, reached down and grabbed me by the callar of my shirt, and said. "Why you little dumb pipsqueak, you aint nothing but a hog raising farm boy!" and shoved me hard against
the hallway wall, so I smacked the back of my head against it, and was
knocked out for a few minutes, long enough for someone dumping a cup full of water on my face to bring me alert. Then ol blow hard
spread it around that I had attemped to hit him and he "just naturally" defended himself and gave me a little shove.
But back to the main part of this story, I had been working out in the city gym, working on my cardio, that's my breathing. I had been keeping up with my physical condition all of my life, so for an 83 yr old man  I am in good physical shape. I have been punching the heavy bag on daily basis and have had someone bouncing a heavy medicine ball on my stomach five minutes every day, so I have those three muscle stand outs on my stomach, that everybody ooos and aaas about.
I also sparred with young boys around 20 and 30 years old, convincing them I was just 28, by my foot work and bobbing and weaving and left-hand jabs. I still had a good head of hair, which I
had dyed a light black, which also convinced the boxing commission that I was 38, actually the year I was born, 1938
My boxing bout with the young grandson of this high school classmate that I detested, was supposed to be just a warm up match for him, in preparation for a title fight. He was the Dallas County Light Heavy Weight champion defending his title against some unbeaten
opponent. My goal was to knock him out and disqualify his title fight.
Oh yes, I neglected to mention my boxing manager, who was a young 62 year old retired boxer. He didn't grow up in
Dallas County, Iowa,  so he had no idea of my background age. He came from New York or New something.  I had him convinced that I was just 38 yrs old also. I grew up in a small town called Vermillion about 60 miles from Des Moines, where the fight was scheduled. Vermillion was a town with a population of around 2500 when I lived there. Most of the people who knew me are living under ground now, or in a old folks' home, so the secret of my age will not be revealed.
,
This grandson of the school mate I detested, is just like his Dad, a smart mouth, bragging, pompous, cocky Strutton showboat. He has no idea who I am but has already started boasting about what he is going to do t me.
"Hey, I'm only 27 yrs old and this old man I'm fighting is 38 yrs old. Somebody will have to help him through the ropes to get in the ring." "What's an old man like him still thinks he is a boxer?
"He ought to be sitting on his back porch, watching the rabbits and squirrels hop around."
"He claims to be 38 yrs old, I'll knock him out in 38 seconds in round 3."
   ,
He came to the gym when I was working out one morning to scout me out; I put on an act of being slow and winded.
He yelled at me from a few feet away, "Hey old man, my kid sister
has a faster jab then you. You sure you want to fight me?"
My manager walked up to him, and gave him a double arm shove
out the door, so hard he stumbled. "You big mouth punk, crawl
back in the skunk hole you came from."
                           The Big Fight
I was in the ring first and was warming up with little dance steps I had had learned in a dance studio, which I intended to use on him, BTW  his name was Virgil Throgmartin, but he took pride in calling himself, "V T"=Very Tuff.
He was taking his time coming to get into the ring, and when he did decide to enter, he did so with a bunch of short, skirted cheer leading girls dancing to loud music being played. When he approached the ring, two of the girls, squatted down on one knee and VT than made a big show of standing on each of their leg, and pushed himself off, tumbling over the ropes onto the ring apron.
amid 40,000 loud cheering fans.
"Enjoy it while you can VT, because in about 15 minutes, five three-minute rounds, yu're gonna have 40,000 stunned fans looking at you, sprawled halfway under the ring ropes, watching the referee
waving the fight over."
                                ROUND ONE
VT came quickly to the center of the ring with a stupid looking
grin on is face, hands down, swinging back and forth at his waist level.
I took a couple steps toward him, then through him a big surprise,
that stopped him in his tracks. I did a little two step tap dance, and in the few seconds it took him to recover from surprise, I took a quick step toward him and shot out a left jab, purposely hitting
his right eye. Over my years of boxing experience, I developed a
fast twist at the end of the jab. This little twist would tear the skin
producing a cut in the eyebrow, which it did to VT. I don't think he had ever been cut before by the way he wiped his eye, leaving his face unprotected, of which I took advantage, and smacked him with
another quick jab on his nose, drawing another spurt of blood.
VT wasn't expecting such an early barrage of attack and started back peddling. Once again, I put on my little tap dance,
to a 40,00 applauding, whistling crowd of men, women and teenagers. By now ol VT had no idea what to do with me. He took a quick look over at his corner for help. And when he did, I took a big step forward and planted to quick left jabs on each of his eyes.
I heard the fight announcer telling the radio listeners, he had never seen such a show boating boxer like Howard is putting
on. He has VT totally confused, not knowing what to do with
him. He came into this fight as a warmup for his upcoming defensive championship fight with The Rock, Rocky Argo and he is being bloodied and cut up, by what in the boxing sport is considered old, a man close to his 40's but is moving like a 25 or 26 year old. Folks I don't recall Howard in any past fights, but uh, hang on a moment Howard is moving around VT, bobbing, weaving and talking to him, I can't quite read his lips, but something about going down in uh, some round. Meanwhile VT continues to back pedal away from Howard, who is trying to cut him off....Oh! now Howard stops chasing him and motioned with his hands to come in and fight. There's the bell ending this third round.
There is some kind of commotion going on behind me.... someone wants to tell me something but is being detained by the police.
"Hey officers, let him talk to me. Folks, this is the craziest night I have ever experienced, let's see what this old man, I'm serious about Old, He must be  "Uh how old are you, sir?"
"I'm just a couple years younger than Howard. We grew up together in Vermillion, Iowa. I'm 81 years old and that old man in the ring, he was known as "Howie", is 83 years old and...."
"Hold on just jack rabbit minute! Are you telling me, that Howard,
  what did yu call him? Howie, that boxer in the ring, beating VT, the current light weight Dallas County champion, is 83 years old? Is that what you are saying?"
"Yep, dats whot Im sayng.We growed up t'gether, in da same school t'gether, wrestled and boxed t'gether, and I'm 81 years old and he was alays 2 yars older'n me, so I knows he is 83 yars old.
Folks., getting back to the fight, VT is circling to his right to get in position to throw is left hook and then is right overhand knockout punch. I think Howie is aware of what VT is trying and keeps circling to his left.
This is the  the round Howard bragged he would KO VT. VT is coming out in his usual swaggering way, Howard had him intimated in the first four rounds, with his little dancing jig and blooding his nose and eye. VT wasn't used to that kind of pressure, but his corner manager and some others that joined him, gave him a little pep talk, and so he has regained his confidence. As usual Howard, try's his little tap dance as he approaches VT, it's gotten a little much and no one is cheering it.
I failed to ask you, old man, your name"
"I was known as "The Rock in Vermillion my real name is Rocky Argo. You said dis is da round Howie is going to lower da boom on this young feller?"
"Well that's what he told the fight reporters in the newspaper. But frankly, I have doubts that he can do it. Thus far all I've seen from your friend is a few left jabs. He hasn't used his right in the entire fight."
"Well you just keep your eyes on his right; what yor going to see is a flurry of left jabs, and out of nowhere his right and will suddenly show up and that will be the end of the fight."
Well folks there is just two minutes left in this round, if Howie is going to KO VT, he is going to have to get more aggressive than, OH! Howie just connected with a double left jab, and another one and he had VT weak legged from a barrage of jabs. He looks like he is about to go down OH WOW Howie hit him with a straight right hand punch right between his eyes and VT is on the canvas, trying to get up, the count is up to 5, 6,7 VT was up at the count of 8 but collapse. The referee is waving the fight over, and the Dallas County  light heavy weight champion has been knocked out by Howie Howard in the 5th round just as he predicted."
"Let's listen as the referee announces the winner of this fight."
"And the winner and NEW DALLAS COUNTY LIGHT HEAVY WEIGHT CHAMPION IS HOWEEEEEE HOWWWARD!!
Howie, the talk around the dressing room is that you are 83 years old. Now tell us your real age. I mean, a 83 yr old man can't do that little jig you did tonight and beat up a 27 yr old. So c'mon and let this crowd and thousands of radio listeners know your real age."
"I was born on the twelfth day of July 1938, if my math is correct that makes me eighty-three years old, and that's the absolute truth."
"Ok, so tell us how you have kept in such physical shape to be able to
dance and beat up a young 37 year old champion boxer as you did tonight?"
"Well, first of all, I have to give God all the glory f or entrusting me
with an extraordinary physique. I have honored God many times in many ways because of this extraordinary body, that I , or others could not have done with a normal body. The second thing I want to emphasize is when I was just eight years old, I was convicted that there was a hellfire, called The Lake of Fire, that unbelievers in Jesus Christ are cast. I was just a small child, but I knew in my heart that in God's sight I was a sinner for whom Jesus suffered and died on the Cross of Calvary, and if I just received Him as my sin-bearer and personal Savior, He would forgive me all my sins for the rest of my life. And I have done a lot of sinning in my 83 years of living, one of which has been a distain for VT's grampa, with whom I graduated from the Vermillian High School in 1957. He was the most egotistical, arrogant, vain and proud ****-of-the-walk person I ever knew, and VT was just like him. His grampa died about five years ago, but I have held a grudge in my heart for VT's grandpa all my life, I thought it would give me great satisfaction to ruin his opportunity to fight for the Iowa State Championship.  So I arranged with the Iowa Dallas County Fight Promoters to give VT a warm up fight for him to fight the current Iowa State light heavy weight champion. I studied VT's fights and trained for them these past three months, with the intention of doing what I did to him tonight."
"So what are ..."Excuse me, I'm not finished yet. I thought I would feel good about beating the snot out of VT, but you know what? I don't. I was really enjoying it when I was blooding VT up, as though I was kicking the arrogance out of his grampa. But now that I've destroyed VT's  chance to fight for the Iowa State Championship, I feel empty inside, and feel sorry for VT. To all of you who paid out good money to see this fight, I just want to leave you with this one thought "A grudge is too heavy a load for anyone to carry"
GRAMPA THE SOFT BALL PLAYER
                ………by Jerry Howarth
                             5/26/16
Grampa is a legend in the softball world
He was voted into the Softball Hall of Fame
When ever  Grampa was scheduled to pitch
It  broke the attendance record every game.
Grampa was a  fast ball pitcher
For the Perry Baptist church team.
He was having fun, just messing around,
But with every game Grampa picked up steam.
He began to experiment releasing the ball,
making it curve left & right, drop and rise,
He even learned to make a  slow pitch,
Making it difficult for the batter’s eyes
Grampa had a favorite trick he loved to play  The crowd thought it was super great!
The ball started out fast then changed slow
“How slow did it get Grampa?”  “So slow
the batter swung three times before it crossed the plate.
Well Grampa’s pitching became so well known
The  major leagues began competing with                   many others,
Offering Grampa  Millions of dollars.
Grampa developed a fast ball so fast that…
“How fast was it, Grampa Parson?”
It was so fast it was beyond measur’n.
Now Grampa had what he called his
Roller coaster pitch that no one could ever hit
It was such a crazy pitch, he had it patented
So no one else could copy and use it
Grampa was now playing  on a professional team, making over a million bucks a year,
His agent made a deal for $20,000 a game
Every time he pitched a no hitter
Every game he played was a no hitter,
Thanks to his patented pitch
At $20,000.00 a game
Grampa was getting really, really rich!
But back to Grama’s special  pitch,
It was greatly irritating to every batter
They were determined to knock that ball
Right down Gramp’s kooka-defrater
Hear the crowd yelling, whistling, and clapping
Coming up to bat is the world home run king!
Here it comes, that, fast, slow pitch
The home run king gives three mighty swings.
Three strikes an yer out, the rules of the game
It’s the first time in the history of soft ball fast pitch, that a batter strikes out  on
just one pitch
This poem cannot end without a mention
About Grampa batting power
That’s right, Grampa hit a ball so hard,
It sailed about a thousand miles or so
It broke out a window in the Trump Tower.
YEAH It did! And broke Donald’s  favorite champagne drinking glass.
Well this is enough humble bragging about
When Grampa G. E. Parson was a Grandson
And I hope the reading of this poem
Was a lot of fun !
I met Jethro by a stile Howarth way
Knee deep in snow and soon talking.
He was old but not very and his eyes
Were full of reflected glared light.
He called me young lady at first
Then lass...I called him master then
Mister as we stood on his ground measuring.
His farm was breaking even but his
Beasts and sheep had to eat his money now
Which is the nature of things he supposed and
As we looked down the moor we saw his wife
Unplucking his frozen shirts from a line and waving
Us to tea which I wasn't going to ignore...
We talked about the Brontes and he showed
Me his copy of "Wuthering Heights" that was given
To his family all those years ago...
The kitchen danced warmly with age then...
I asked him if he thought he was rich...
He said take a good look around...
Rich or poor has no meaning if you
Are as mad as a hatter with greed or despair
JACOB AND ESAU,
Twin brothers were they,
But each was different,
And went his separate way.
Jacob the younger represents
Men of subtlety, Esau the elder,
represents men who are worldly.
Jacob, one day with help from his Mother,
swindled  the birth rite from  Esau his brother,
The dissention it caused,  continues to this day,
Affecting every nation, including the U.S.A.
DAVID AND GOLIATH
Most everyone knows about David and Goliath,
The contrast between them, not just physical,
But more importantly, spiritual.
Goliath, protected with armor from head to toe,
And young David with one smooth stone....
well the rest of the account...I'm sure you know.
JESUS AND JUDAS
In the Bible many contrast there are,
But of Jesus and Judas the greatest by far.
Judas the greedy betrayer of Jesus, For a few pieces of silver,
Betrayed his greatest friend,
Who loved him  to his end
In the old world of antiquity,
Not one righteous man could be found.
God said, "My Spirit shall not always strive,
My patience is about run down."
But in that old world of antiquity,
There was ONE righteous man found,
To whom God commanded he build a boat.
So he and his family wouldn't drown.
Through righteous Noah,
To the wicked world,
God's warning message was sent,
"You have one hundred-twenty years to repent."
God instructed Noah to build a big boat,
Out of Gopher wood, 450 by 75 by 45 feet.
Put a  window above and a door in the side,
And pitch it good with tar, so it won't leak.
By faith Noah obeyed the Lord,
And for 120 years, he worked and preached,
Warning all humanity, that Devine judgment  was coming.
But, alas! His own family were the only one's he reached.
True to his warning, in 120 years,
With all of Noah's family safe in the ark, God shut the door,
Broke up the canopy of water above, the well springs below,
The lightening flashed, the thunder roared.
But Noah and his family,
Received God's saving grace,
His wife, three sons and their wives,
For they were not like the rest of the race.
So ended the existence of  all that breathed.
All were destroyed, none survived,
Except Noah and his family of seven,
Whom, because they feared God, He saved alive.
                              APPLICATION
Now in this ark of safety and salvation,
Is a picture of Eternal Life.
As Noah and his family, IN the ark were saved,
So also will be saved, all who by faith are IN Christ.
"In the world is damnation,
In Jesus Christ is salvation"
So where are you, my friend?
Where are you?
I love to preach the Gospel of Jesus of Jesus Christ.
Pastored in five different churches over a period of 40 years.
These were small country churches averaging 10/20 adults
So I had to work at employment while Pastloring
But one day my health interupted my ministry
so I was forced to resign Pastoring, but not preaching
I  was yet able to preach from time to time, here and there
filling in for Pastors on vacation, sick and short interims.
Ond day someone suggested  go on Face Book Live,
Which I have been doing for about a couple of months.
So all you my poet friends, I invite you to go to Face Book
and type my name, Jerry, and hear me preach.
                          THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
One day, Grampa was walking and talking with his Ten year old grand daughter. Shortly they came to a river. The side they were on was full of thistles, *** holes, cow manure and was not a very pleasant place to be walking.
On the other side of the river was a nice pasture of green grass, flowers and a very pleasant place to walk.
As they stood looking over the river at the pleasant pasture, Grampa pointed out to his grand-daughter where they were standing, that every day he was getting closer to that pleasant side of he river.
"What do you mean, Grampa?" she ask
"Honey child. Grampa is talking about death.
The day is coming, that Grampa's body will die,
It will  be buried some where in this earth,
But at the second coming of Jesus, be lifted up on high.
My child, Grampa has lived a good life,
But not good enough to merit a place in Heaven.
The only merit I have is the suffering and dying of Jesus for all my sins and, in Him my sincere believing.
My sweet Grandchild, the Bible says, "The wages of Sin is death.." and so Jesus died for all my sins
...but the Gift of God is Eternal Life through Jesus Christ"
Only by sincere faith in Jesus can anyone receive the Gift of eternal life.
Have you understood all that I have been telling you?"
"Yes Grampa, I have and I sincerely believe in Jesus Christ that He suffered and died for all my sins and now I have received the Gift of Eternal Life
How about you dear reader? Have you believed in Jesus Christ that He died for all your sins, and you have received The Gift of Eternal Life?
The Bible says "If we confess  our sins....ie that we are a sinner "God is faithful to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us of all our unrighteousness."
Text: Act 2:1-21; Isa. 28:11
Intro: Speaking in tongues was a special gift given to  special men, for a special purpose for a special people for a special period of time.
Now read 2:1-12; Isa.28:11 The first truth I want you to know, is that the tongues in Acts 2, was an actual human language, not some heavnly language.
The day of Pentecost of the apostles preaching the Gospel in a gentile language, of which they had never learned, was prophesied by the prophet, Joel and Isa.
Note in the Isa.28 passage,vs.11 that the Apostles would speak win a stammering lips and another tongue i.e. another language, the Gentile language.
A. Stammering lips , compared to the Jewish lanuage which is an
     easy flowing language, the Gentile language is staccato sounding
     language, or as this Scripture renders it "stammering" sounding.
B. So Scripure has established that the original speaking in tongues
     was a specific human language, given to special men - the 12
    Apostles.
       ....and note also,  these men had not been striken in the spirit or
       had someone lay hands on them and utter heavenly words over
      them, and declare  they had just been baptized in the Holy
     Ghost.
     ans declare he or she jad just been baptized in thr Holy Ghost.
C. Next take note, that this  speaking in a language  which they had never peviously learned, was for a special purpose -the proclaiming the wonderful works ofGod -Acts 2:11 and God's plans for the future Acts 2:17-20., and the most important purpose , V.21 to proclaim God's salvation - "Whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord, shall be saved."
Now I want to pull over to the side of the road, and park for awhile and talk to you,  who-so-ever-you are  who  thinks you have talked in tongues - have you ever used that gift to proclaim the Word of God, the Word of salvation? Of course  you haven't; because as I Corth. 14:9 says "Except you utter by tongue (a language) words to understand, how shall it be known what is spoken? For you shall speak in the air."
                               Personl Illustraion
At one time I worked among sme Mexican men who did not speak or uderstand the English language. I and a particuler Mexican man and I became friends. I invited him to church,which he refused, Why? As he said, I could not understand laguage or the music.
I'm saying very bluntly to anyone reading this who thinks you have a special gift of speakig in tongues,  except you speak in a language they understand, proclaiming the wonderful works and wonderful work of God, you are fooling yourself or have been fooled by someone else that you have the gift of speaking in tongues.
"But Preacher, I know I was speaking in a heavenly language because I had no control over my tongue."
"I understand that, and will address it in a few minutes."
But right now I want to review what we have leaned thus far.
1. Speaking in tongues is an earthly known language, not
    some heavenlylanguage.
2. Speaking in a unleaned language was specia gift of the Holy Spirit
    given to some special men for a special purpose.
3. That purppse was to proclaim the Word of salvation to some
   special people the Israelites, IOW the Jewish people.
a.Isa. 28: 11,12 says "Yet thet would not hear" so now go to the New
   Testament I Cor. 14:21 which subsatuates Isa,  28: 11-12,In the law
   it is written,  with men of other tongues (languages) other lips,
  will   I speak to this people, and yet for all that they will not hear
  me, saith the Lord" I Cor. 14:22 says "Tongues are for a SIGN, not to
  them that believe but to them that believe not." and John 1:11 tells
  us who the unbelievers are "Jesus came unto His own but His own
  recieved Him not"
Now I'm going to address those who say "I know I'm speaking in tongues, because I have no control over my tongue,
You are not going to like me for what I am going to say, but you really need to hear it.
Look at Acts 16:16-18 and pay attention to details. This girl had no control over her following Paul around and actually was sayimg some things we today, might have easiy been drawn in to her, "These men are the servants of the most high God which show us the way of salvation."
But Paul recognized her for what she was, a demon possessed
person, and even though she was saying some wonderful things, Paul said,"I command you in the name of Jesus Christ, come out of her" and she came out the same hour.
OK< now what I am about to tell you, if this young girl  had no control over her tongue, just as this damsel had no control over her tongue, is it possible you are being controlled by an evil spiirit. If you have no idea of what you  are saying, has it ever entered your mind that a satanic spirit is cursing Jesus, using your tongue to do so
Remember, tongues are a known human language, and you have no idea wht you are saying, so its a very possiblity that an  evil spirit is speaking in some forign laguage through the use of your vocal chords,  Not to Praise Jesus, But curse Him.
Now I know there are several passages that have to do with speaking in tongues,(An unlearned language), but keep in mind that tongues was a SIGN FOR THE JEWISH PEOPLE and in every pasage where tongues were spoken, they were always  speakin in a Gentile language that the Jewish people had lerned, and always the were proclaiming the Gospel to a, or, some Jews.
In closing, I am going to show you from Scripture, that the gift of tonges was for a SPECIAL PEOPLE for a SPECIAL PERIOD OF TIME and that time has long ago passed on, SO speaking in tongues
is not for today ICor. 13:8 "...whether there be tongues, they shall cease."
When did they cease? Look at 13:10  "When that which is perfect (complete) is come, then that which is in part (incomplete) shall be done away,"
"When "that" which is perfect is come" is not a reference to Jesus' return, as some have taught, Why? Because the word "that" is a neuter word, neither male nor female and so is talking about the completion of the Scriptures. Besides, Jesus is not a "that".
Ok, you may ask, "When was the completion of the Scrptures?" Look at the last word in Revelation. With the salutation of John's writings, came the end of many of the speaking gifts, such as the gift of tongues.
Today with the completion of thr verbal insp[iraion ofmScriptre, tongues are no longer needed; We hve God's last wrd to the world of humanity in writtn form. God has laid aside His daligs with Israel, so the SIGN of tonges is no longer needed for them; everyone gets the Gospel of God's Word the same way......through the written Wrd of God.
The Declaration of Independence states that people
are "endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights that among those are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"
The quest for freedom is a theme found throughout the Bible, from Gen. to Revelation. Just three chapters into the account of God's creation, humanity forfeited it's freedom by rebelling against the liberty God gave them, and from that time until today mankind has been enslaved both physical and, more importantly, spiritually ever since.
In old Test.  physical freedom was usually tied in with spiritual disobedience, of worshipping false gods. After a time crying and boo-hooing, God would deliver them from enslavement, usually from Egypt, some commenter suggested it for-shadowed the coming of Jesus to free mankind from the enslavement of sin
which is death. The "wages of sin is death", so Jesus received our wages and died in our place, that we might be free from the enslavement of sin, which besides everlasting burning in Hell, freed us from such emotional and mental enslavement of fear, anger, depression, anxiety, and any other such enslavement of which we are all subject.
But Brother Jerry, even though I am saved, I still have those things
you mentioned, anger, depression and so forth. If sin shall not have dominion over me, why do I have such problems?
I don't know; ask John he has the PHD. I have the same problem
and for me it's because of a lack of total submission to Christ and
His Word, especially His written Word .The important thing is to claim lst Jn.1:9
TWO MEN OF GREAT FAITH
Joshua and Caleb, men of great faith
Examples and encouragers
To the human race.
Examples of men, who have
The courage of their convictions;
Courage in the midst of
Death threatening opposition.
Encouragers' of those whose
Position is in the minority,
Could not be intimated,
Though threatened by the majority.
Twelve men sent to spy
On the land of Canaan;
Only Joshua and Caleb,
Believed they could whoop 'em.
By their own strength,
The ten cowardly men,
Viewed those giants
Occupying the promised land.
But Joshua and Caleb,
Viewed those giant men
From the stand point of God,
The great and Almighty "I AM"
Victory could have been theirs
That was God's choice.
He would help them win the battle,
If they obeyed His voice.
But alas, those ten unbelievers,
Over Joshua and Caleb, prevailed
To persuade the majority
If they attacked, would surly fail.
On dear reader of this poem,
The majority is not always right!
But as someone said,
"In the will of God, you
Will win every fight."
Text :Romans 8:26-27
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
I have read this passage numerous times, but just recently after reading it, I saw something that has made a great impact upon me; the prayer ministry of the the Holy Spirit for us believers in Chirst.
In fact it has made a great difference in my prayer life. Take  a word for word look at this passage.
A. "Likewise, The Spirit helps us in our weakness"
  1. Likewise is a reference to the 25th vs. that is a reference to our
      having prayed for something, but is a long time coming,
     requiring us to have patience. So the Holy Spirit enables us to be
    strong with patience. This remindsme of Heb. 11:1 "Now faith is
   the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen"
   a. Most of us are weak in patience - I know I am; when I pray for
      something I want it yesterday if not sooner, and when a few
     days go by and  what I prayed for doesn't materialize, I just give
     up hope....
  b. But now I pray and thank the Holy Spirit for strengthening my
     hope. YOU PRAY TO THE HOLY SPIRIT? Yes I do, to GOD THE
    HOLY SPIRIT.
B. "For we know not what we should pray for as we ought."
  1. James warnes us about "praying and recieving not because we
     pray amiss."
  2 So I have started praying about something on my heart, "Dear
     Holy Spirit, please pray about.." whatever the subject is I have
     in mind.
   a. Example: Last week I learned of a brother looking for a  new job,
       so I prayed: " Dear Holy Spirit, please pray for a new job for so'n
       so. I thank you in Jesus  Name." The next Sunday he told the
      SS class about a  new job he receved.
b. Why did I pray those words? Look at our text again, the last part
   of it. "The Spirit Himself makes intercession for us"
   1. My resonng is, if the Holy Spirit is going to make intercession
       for me, then it just makes sence to ask Him to pray for me, about
       what's on my heart.
c. The Holy Sririt makes intercession on our behalf wth "groanings",
    Our groanings, Our weepings, Our sighings, words we cannot
    utter...but the Holy Spirit understands the burden of our heart
d. IJn.5:14 tells us "that if we ask anything according to His Will,"
    but too often we do not know God's will about a matter - that's
   where the Holy Spirit's intercessory ministry comes in, so I pray:
   "Dear Holy Spirit, as you make itercession for me,  please pray for
    God's will about this matter, Thank you, in Jesus Name "
II. Since I started praying asking the Holy Spirit
    to intervene on my
    behalf,I have senced a presence of the Lord
   stronger than I had
   before; I have felt a peace and calmness
   surounding me, and joy
   that I cannot find words to describe.
Conclusion
    My friends, the greatest prayer warrior you
   can have is the Holy Spirit.
Pray for me Holy Spirit,
For I know not
How to pray
As I ought.
Make intercesson to God the Father
For me, I pray,
That I might know
His perfect will today
Abraham, Friend of God
In the book of Genesis is recorded
The life and times of Abraham,
A man of great faith,
The Father of Israel, the Jewish race.
Abraham's life of ups and downs,
Began in Ur, a Chaldean town.
By faith he obeyed God's commands.
At the age, 75, traveled to another land.
By faith he followed God's directions,
Not knowing the exact destination.
Many spiritual lessons are taught by his life
Of how to live holy in a world of strife.
His wife's name was Sarah,
A beautiful woman was she,
Giving birth to Isaac,
At the advanced age of ninety.
In Abraham we see in type.
The vicarious death of Jesus,
By which He suffered the debt of sin,
For every one of us.
Abrham offered up his son, Isaac,
In obedience to God's command
Upon the altar of sacrifice,
But God stayed his hand.
In like manner on Calvary Hill,
On the altar of eternal sacrifice,
The only Begotten Son of God,
For humanity, laid own His own life.
"For the joy set before Him"
Jesus lovingly before our sins,
So that by is stripes, we might be saved,
By simple sincere faith in Him.
Abraham believed God's promise,
Of receiving a son through his wife,
And "staggered not in unbelief"
Even though he was very old in life.
And so, the plan of salvation,
Is simple and plain.
As Abraham was declared righteous,
Even so, unto all who believe in Christ,
Will be declared the same.
Golden Years? That's what old age years has been labeled,
probably by some one in their fifties and in good health
trying to console some one in their sixties or seventies.
Golden Years? There is nothing golden when you can no
longer *drive yourself in your own vehicle, any where you
want to go, any time you want to go.
Golden Years? What's golden about failed health, living on
pills and being denied the kind of food and snacks that you
crave, because they contain too much salt and sugar. Well this
eighty-three old geezer is going to eat and drink whatever and whenever and however much of those forbidden foods and snacks he wants to. Denying myself of too much salt or sugar
isn't going to extend living years that much.
Golden Years? Being confined to a wheel chair or walker every
where I want to go? Or falling down when I feel like walking -
if you can call shuffling along with toddler size steps as walking.
Huffing and puffing from simple exercise of pulling on your socks...No my friends, there is nothing golden about those years.
Golden Years? Meeting financial obligations on SS; buying all those sugar and salt grocery items; paying seven hundred dollars a month for rent; maintaining cell phone costs and buying birthday cards and presents for children, grand children, grt. grand children AND each other, plus celebrating anniversaries
(our 62nd this year)  but can't *drive to a restaurant to celebrate
with eating too much salt and sugar meals ....GOLDEN YEARS?
NO, HUNCA! I don't know what these last years of life are - but
they 'aint GOLDEN YEARS!!
THE BRTH OF MOSES
                       Exodus 2:1-10
    "I don't care what that new King commanded" said Amran(Ex. 6:20) God has entrusted me us with two boys, (Aaron and Moses) we are not going to **** them."
"But Mom, I agree with you  about not killing either of them, especially this last baby boy, but someone will turn you in
for not killing him" said her daughter
"I will nurse him as long as I can, then figure out something else to do after that" she replied.
Amram nursed him for three months, then made a FAITH decision to build an ark made of bulrushes, sealed it with pitch, and hid him in the flags by the rivers bank.
"Now I want you to go with him and hide yourself so no one can see you, but you can keep your eyes on him." said her mother.
It wasn't too many days after, that the Paroah's daughter came to the river to freshen up, and she saw the ark, and the baby was crying.
God's timing is always perfect. Just at the precise time that Pharoh's
daughter came to bath, God pinched Moses and made him cry.
"Oh what a cute little baby" she said to one of her maids. "Go and bring it to me. Oh what a little sweety!"
"Oh my! Is this your little baby? He sure is a cutie! exclaimed his big sister.
"No, he is not my baby. I think he is one of the Israelite boys. He is too cute to ****. My dad won't approve, but I am going to keep him and raise him as my son."
"I know a Hebrew nurse that would probably be glad to nurse him for you until you are able to care for him yourself! Would you like me to do that?"
Now Amram didn't raise any dumbings and so she brought her mother and introduced her to Pharaoh's daughter who made a verbal contract with her to rear him until she was able to care for him herself.
Remember Amram's FAITH DESICION? God not only protected
Moses from death, He made it so that his birth mother not only got to rear him until Pharoah's daughter could take over, but got paid for doing so
"Oh, I forgot to ask you what did you name him?" ask Amram
"Well, I drew him out of the river, so I will name him
Devorce is easy to get,,,TOO EASY
It just takes one dissatisfied partner
To hire a devorce lawyer,
To draw up a legal paper.
The lawyer does'nt care abut the reason
As long as someone has his/her fee.
To pay the asking price.
Yes, devorce is easy to get,..but it's not free.
In most devorcement situations,
Someone's heart is made sad
Not always between the two adults,
But when children are involved, devorce is bad.
Oh listen to me, my family and friends,
Think about others, whose lives your devorce will touch,
Your parents, siblings, friends and especially your children,
All those, who in you, have placed their trust.
And remember when you
Stood before the Preacher
And said your vows
"For richer or poorer
I take you, my love,
I love you with all my heart,
Forsaking all others, I take you
Till death [not devorce] do us part."
And before your fanily, friends and God,
To one anther you promiced your life.
And your Pastor congratulated you,
And pronounced you "Husband and Wife"
But, now you stand before a judge,
No longer holding hands,
And the Justice of Peace,
With just one word, breaks the marriage band.
But, hold on just one minute,
Your marriage may have been desolved,
But you still have a BIG problem,
Don't forget, into his world,
     you brought some children
They are too young to understand
Why Mommy and Daddy are walking away,
With Mommy holdng one of their hands,
And Daddy the other; they just don't understand.
Why are Mommy and Daddy
Not speaking to each other?
Why is Mommy taking me?
And Daddy carrying my brother?
Now tears of frusration and fear
Runs down their little faces.
Why are Mommy and Daddy
Taking us to different places?
Aw yes, my friends,
Devorce is easy to get...TOO EASY TO GET
BUT, the children's sadness that follows
IS NOT EASY TO FORGET.
Gen. 6:8 "But Noah found GRACE in the eys of thr Lord."
Grace is a very important word in the Bible. It is sometimes
translated "favour". When you are ask by someone to do them
a favour,  you are not expecting them to pay you or in some way
to return the favour. You are happy to help them, no expectation
of pay or some kind of return payment. You graciously give your time, your know how, yourself to them.
God's grace hs been described as "Unmerited favor"  "For by or through GRACE are you saved...."  There is absolutly no way we
can save ourself from our sins, by some personal sacifice of religious merit.
* Joining a church, being a faithful financial supporter - won't save
* Being a faithful lodge member - won't save
* Being baptized(sprinkled) as an infant - won't save
* Being baptized(emerged) as a teen ager or adult - won't save
* Being a graduate from a catechism class - won't save
One's ONLY hope of being saved, from the consequences of the
SIN of unbelief in Jesus Christ, is by abandoning, WHAT ever, or in WHOM ever, you are currently depending for salvation.
Romans 10:9-10 gives, in simple explanation how to receive salvation FROM HELL,  FOR HEAVEN. "That if you confess with your mouth, the Lord Jesus" i.e. through prayer to God, "and believe in your heart", i.e. that you are believing in your heart, "that God has raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved."
Understand that Jesus suffered and died for you, BEARING all your sins and was BURIED with all your sins WTH Him, but was made alive by God His Father, LEAVING all your sins BURIED, never to rise up against you in condemnation. This is what it means to "believe in your heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead, you shall be saved."
I know this is getting long, and I am about finished with this devotion, so stay with me a little longer for Vs.10 which basically
says the same thing as Vs.9. Salvation is obtained thru simple heart belief, of which you tell God you are trusting in  His only begotten Son, and that results in God declaring you to be righteous in His eyes, and no longer a sinner condemned to everlasting torment in The lake of Fire.
For a little more understanding of all of this, read IICorinthians 5:21
And....thanks for staying with me.
Johnathan was a faithful friend to David,
A friendship that never faded.
From the first acquaintance of David and Johnathan,
A love spark penetrated the heart of each one.
Johnathan loved David more than his own soul,
To promote him to the Kingship was his goal.
Johnathan and David made a covenant of friendship;
Jonathan demonstrated his love for King David,
When he removed his princely robe and  his sword and bow,
And gave them all to David that he might defeat every foe.
Johnathan, the son of King Saul,
Saved David from many a fall.
When *King Saul,  in a jealous rage of anger,
Sought to **** *David, because *they were friends no longer,
Johnathan intervened and saved David's life,
Not just once,  but more than twice.
Now Johnathan was a courageous warrior,
And was known everywhere as a vicious fighter.
Twice Johnathan invaded the Philistines camp alone,
And retuned victoriously with out even a broken  bone.
But as death is Divinely appointed unto all,
Johnathan died honorably in a battle against
The Philistines, led by his Father, King Saul.
Johnathan and David are great examples of
Faithful friends.
