If my skillet's unearthed
Some long time on
By somethings human,
They'd need a rune
To reveal the smells
Of Sunday breakfast,
The sizzles and grizzles
Of that relic.
It won't explain
What's to blame,
From first fire,
To my frying pan.

when it hits
when the winding road leads to
a cul de sac
reverse & don’t park

later at night, wines on board
didn’t pay the extra leg charge by
the exit
child whines & grizzles for land

solid foundations covered by
mountains & waters
everthing flows down streams & creeks &
all the rivers join

heart pumps, lungs release, fins stomp
over rocky ground, pillars
hold up the whole, stop the waters
receeding, keep them

propping all up. venice in winter
canons fire, lead ***** explode
around people I love. look in the
mirror, see what stares back

a smear on the face of a guilty reflection.
pool of calm lake
narcissus new zealand. glow & frown
& pull in the fish
from holidays in the Corrimandels, New Zealand.

New
a lullaby for Finn

fingers clutch air, tickling atoms
restless new boy, limbs long & soft
flakes of skin adjust to atmosphere
sunrays through glass warming his back

a dinosaur suit primary & bright
lunch on a simmer, mother not far
tearing of hair, he grizzles & squirms.
gently swaying pram & springs

away in a slumber wondering things.
back in a dark room hopes are too high
nap that was short is broken by cry
snuggle to neck, respite from the light

rubs eyes with a velvet fist of pink.
lucky new life in a household of care
father, two sisters to also guide here
dream on little boy, a world is out there

COMING BACK TO THE WORLD

she grizzles
down the stairs
each step a sob

"I FELLED ASLEEP!"
she announces angrily
"Oh that's good!" I tell her

"IS NOT GOOD!"
she chokes back the tears
"I missed the world!"

"Well. . !" I smile
trying my best
to placate her

"When you fell asleep..." I say
"Yes...?" she cries
"...the world fell asleep too!"

"So I didn't miss anything?"
I comfort her
"Not a thing!" I assure her

"Good!" she sniffles
"I hate to miss
anything the world does!"

As I go through the house
Trying to tidy
Trying to clean
Trying to cook
You won’t settle

I pop you on your playmat
Thinking maybe you are restless
But that’s not what you need now
Your cries and grizzles tell me that

I try you in your rocker
You settle
You even close your eyes
If only for a moment
But next come the cries
The ones that follow a not restful
And all too short of a nap

I figure based on you and
Based on the clock
It’s time for a proper nap
In your bassinet we go

As I listen to your gurgles
Your coos throughout the house
They quickly become cries

I come to you, to settle you
I comfort you my baby
However that just won’t do

I give in against all advise
The books and the ‘experts’
Who tell me you must self settle
But not this time
This time you need me

I lift you up my baby
I sway you, I comfort you
With my own set of expertise
I love you and with that
You drift into dreamland
