"exclusion" poems
I think sometimes, about what it means to be transgender. I probe and probe for answers, because as the possibility for a new age of enlightenment and safety increases, the others want to know. I’ve come up with many answers, but I can hold to none. I don’t deserve to paint the definition of a culture with the limited experiences I’ve had. I don’t see myself in the transgender identified people allowed on television. I don’t see myself in the transgender identified people making news feeds and giving high profile interviews. And as my nation’s exposure to our culture increases, likely will their curiosity. Am I transgender? Do I have the right? I’ve heard doctors, psychiatrists, may refuse transgender patients access to hormone therapy based on how dedicated or convincing their portrayal of their identified gender. If you want to be a man or woman, you’ll have to look like the women and men on TV. If you want to be transgender, you’ll have to look like the trans identified people on TV. Every single one of us who has an active role as either participant or observer in our society is prey to the crisis of validity. Am I pretty enough? Am I strong enough? Am I brave enough? Mom enough? Dad enough? Competitive enough? Successful enough? Rich enough? **** enough? Pious enough? It never ends. We’re, as a nation of people, being crushed and compartmentalized by this ever present lens, looming over us, exploiting our weaknesses and fears so it may grow wider, and support itself as it follows us, seemingly forever into the future. And one of the worst fears this camera of existential torment exploits, in most of us every day, is, “Do I have a reflection?” “What does it look like?” “Do I look like me?” What does it mean to be transgender? I can’t get away from that question. But I don’t have an answer. There are varying degrees of anguish, depression, panic, anxiety, and other wonderful emotional states that creep up on you and breathe down your neck nearly every waking day. Absolute contempt for the lie of a life you’ve lived till now, and contempt for the fragments still stuck to you, in memories, attached to your body and mind. Fear of those in your own community who would purposefully humiliate, invalidate, or attack you, choosing their own universal moral code over the innate urge and capacity to support the health and continued well being of another human. A ******* neighbor. A ******* pupil. A ******* employee. A ******* sister, brother, son, daughter, mother, father, cousin, ******* blood. What is being transgender like? By my experiences, it’s just like being anyone else in the country. But with a lot more fear, death, exclusion and medication.

On a journey down to nowhere I have realized many things. Dwelling on the subject; friendship And what once a stranger said to me “You’re not a no-man Neither am I” He continued with a sigh. The stranger gazed high above the tree tops We heard the sirens of the cops As little raindrops gently landed on our faces. There were no traces of violence just serenity. “You can feel and so can I We could perish in a blink of an eye. We can withstand the strongest storm Yet we are torn from a cunning plan. We are strong when we’re united yet How weak we are alone. Then why do we insist to consist in groups Exclusion is not the solution to our society The variety of us is overwhelming Compelling us to accept So why do we resist?” He preached Continued to persist for his message was vital. Accept and you will be accepted, you will be loved, free. On a journey down to nowhere I have realized… Unity is vital.

If (WO)men are the ones that suffer an exacerbated amount Of the violence, the **** the abuse, and everything that comes with and from struggle and alienation; it is because of their femininity that men at times have come to believe that their contributions soften institutions. That at times throughout history neither capitalism, neoliberalism nor revolutionary experiments like that of Cuba have placed femininity as compatible with progress or resolution. In which case femininity must be hidden, silenced, or displaced with no purpose or place to belong. Thus everyone closely associated with this femininity such as homosexuals, transgendered (WO)men, and "effeminate" males, (ignoring, subverting and negating the lesbian identity because of their gender) have come to be marginalized by a structural system of exclusion. (WO)men carrying the highest burden for originating the associative distinction Homosexuals battling to find love by constantly having to assert their masculinity Transgendered (Wo)men afraid of expressing their through identity. Lesbians fighting to legitimize their own identity separate from the directives ascribed onto them by virtue of being born women. Males who are labeled effeminate because of their sympathy toward those who struggle and are alienated. And every other individual who refuses to deliver to give a marker to their identity and a degree to their femininity. Hold fast in your femininity and embrace the rancor that society grants you As a homosexual I speak with you brother and sister, not for you Realize that our self-ascribed degrees of femininity and identity are as revolutionary and transformative, and thus necessary, as those of Che Guevara, Mohammed Ali, Harriet Tubman, or the Dali Lama. That because we have decided to embrace our degrees of femininity, problematic to any movement, at one point or another, we have inadvertently decided to align our selves with those who are alienated the most by the systems in which they live. So that in this way we must make our struggles deliberate and political. Let our degrees of femininity become legitimizing banners of solidarity for anyone who suffers in any corner of the world.

Dream Divination
It was not, by any means, a loss of faith; Indeed, her devotion was a boundless, unfettered thing Beyond proscription, beyond rote chant and catechism, And what she found as a novitiate Were shuttered gates and gossipy confessionals, Standoffish priests, pig-eyed and pinch-lipped Sisters who thought life’s commerce No more than mechanical prayer and spotless linens, The whole enterprise Smacking of the exclusion of Heaven’s bounty. So she demurred when the time came to take her orders, And she returned to the world of pavements and lesser pieties, Free to seek God on park swings and barstools, In pleasures of the pastoral and the profane, Though her faith is no Dionysian walkabout, As she is passionate to the cusp of maniacal When it comes to the Book of James’ admonition upon works; She is often found among the sisters she once tiptoed alongside At food pantries and clothing drives (She is scrupulous about ministering to only secular needs, As the Bishop is not happily disposed towards those Who choose not to take the veil, And the specter of excommunication is a prospect Too awful to contemplate) Afterwards clambering onto some vaguely roadworthy MTA bus Back to her studio apartment in Green Island, Where she often walks down to the Erie Canal lock nearby, Praying for those who have travelled  near and upon the water, Convenience store clerks and ragged Irishmen fleeing famine, Feral kittens and insufficiently mourned mules.

You’re pretty… he says for a dark-skinned girl I usually don’t talk to your kind. am I supposed to feel honor? you hopped of your pedestal, down to mine? I will not curve my lips into the half of the crescent moon that you’re expecting you do not deserve that. exclusion encumbers me and I am small in your eyes. Surely you can see that I am a dark girl, sweet berries ; color of night the same colors that allowed my ancestors to take flight. freeing them from ******* wounds that had them tied, without my hue, we would’ve died. I am a stone immortal, no work of erosion can seep through my cracks. the trials of my ancestors drawn on their backs. so our heads, we never hang down , we are to be found. scars to be hidden it is the gas in a run-away car, that last sip an alcoholic has as their arm and wrist lay dangling at the bar this is the prestige of my hue if I’m just pretty? then what could beauty possibly mean to you. a rare blend of history, struggle and strength. My head will not hang, not once more by noose or in self distress, I am history. No more do I long to sit at a table with you, in the wake of waiting for your admiration I have created my own table, in appreciation of your hesitation. To you my worth will always be in comparison to what’s missing that being pretty for a dark-skin girl, is a blessing. Worth far more than bedazzled insults , convinced I was worth less they could see it in my eyes, the way I dressed. The hue that I am is far greater than they told me accepting back handed accolades, that’s the old me. This house that holds my soul is only almost pretty… they say if I weren’t so dark I might be worth loving, caring wanting or staying. My color, a rustic espresso, no cream. you say I am pretty for a dark- skinned girl … no I’m pretty and that’s it! signed a FED UP dark skinned chick

The Great Debate started, Parliament was the open forest, electors were divided into two groups— Sir Fox's, and The Lion's, The first group wanted to overthrow the Lion from the sovereign head of the forest, It was a tough job to confront Lion directly, So, Sir Fox, appointed a Monkey as the Chief campaigner, and that monkey appointed other monkeys in the business, Scaring them with a story of vanishing trees, and living on the land increases the mortality rate if Lion Party continues. Monkey, the chief campaigner exclaimed, “We are not living in the rule of law but in the rule of Lion, All are equal, but the continuous target of a particular community, Like a beautiful deer, by another community in majority should be banned, Deers bring historic and aesthetic significance to the forest And need to be treated as the same,” Deers bellowed gleefully hearing this. Cows felt hurt, their exclusion from Monkey’s speech proved to be a setback to the Fox’s Party, Cows were the most targeted community by the Carnivores, everyone in the forest knew, Potential voters were lost to Lion’s Party. Polarising speeches of Chief continued, It brought Rhinoceros to its side, Seeing rhino in political rallies, Hippopotamus chipped in, To counter the increasing weight Political advisor of Lion, i.e, Tiger, persuaded Elephant to become an official member of their party. Hate speeches increased in numbers Giraffe, the bearer and upholder of law, Overlooked everything, the long neck looked tilted towards an ideology. Rumours became truth, truth became rumour Monkey was good in it, And an army of monkeys were excellent. Now, biped hated quadruped, Quadruped hated reptiles, Reptiles did the same to amphibians, And in this way the whole animal kingdom danced in chaos, The fiery speeches of Sir Fox helped in creating illusion, The slogan of the Man as a common enemy was changed to, Feline as a common enemy, Felines joined Sir Fox’s Party, And Canines ran to Lion’s Party, Obvious was difficult to observe Obscure was easy to see. to be continued

2 weeks it's been Immersed in this world of open love Such a short time to spend But my heart feels so liberated No longer trapped by the confines of one A sole opportunity to share, give and express my love Now I can let my feelings come undone Within the safety and boundaries of mutual respect My lovers, almost three Each offer a unique chance To share this love and feel free This love is a beautiful thing I did not anticipate this formation I did not set out a number of partners to seek I entered this with no expectations And it happened to grow this way on its own I love each person uniquely No mutual exclusion, no impact Each love forms and runs deeply Individually, yet always connected through love

I have loved Thee with two loves - a selfish love and a love that is worthy of Thee. As for the love which is selfish, Therein I occupy myself with Thee, to the exclusion of all others. But in the love which is worthy of Thee, Thou dost raise the veil that I may see Thee. Yet is the praise not mine in this or that, But the praise is to Thee in both that and this.

Disney Like America Looks awesome in the brochure But feels faded and slightly forced A bit of a letdown after the buildup Still Wild eyed zealots Sacrifice their year’s savings at the altar of the mouse A western Hajj eulogized by matching Toy Story t shirts I really feel I missed an important moment of cultural indoctrination That left me insensitive To the draw of this place. A surprise comes though, As instead of the expected moral superiority I feel a sense Of loneliness And societal exclusion As I watch An old man with a silhouette of Mickey Mouse tattooed on his forearm   Happily Buy a Bud Light for $5.95

A trip to Disney reminds me I'm missing something
descendants of those left behind, they found fellowship with a singularly brutal environment, free roaming meanderers of a crepuscular exclusion zone, having trekked into the camps of liquidators to beg for scraps, they nosed into empty buildings and found safe places to sleep, stopping at Café Desyatka for some borscht, the guides speak only of visitor or occupant, there are no tourists here, only the genetically distinct

The dragonflies and meadow-sweet Follow the banks of ‘The Wandle’ Allowing what is hidden and not heard Behind posted iron railings To be noted, found on a map, imagined Its very name conjures up the river’s journey Drawing one into its currents and flows A place of beauty where time seems slow Rippling the edges of thought, living as a space, Exploration, given  by inclusion and exclusion Forever to ‘wandle along’ under the sky Between the gaps in the real And what finds itself from what Came before in experience and words. Love Mary x The River Wandle is the largest river of the south southwest sector of London, England. Its name is thought to derive from the community around its mouth, Wandsworth. About 9 miles long, it passes through the London Boroughs of Croydon, Sutton, Merton, and Wandsworth to join the River Thames on the Tideway.. Mouth: River Thamesnn

mutual exclusion
II But only three in all God’s universe Have heard this word thou hast said,—Himself, beside Thee speaking, and me listening! and replied One of us . . . that was God, . . . and laid the curse So darkly on my eyelids, as to amerce My sight from seeing thee,—that if I had died, The deathweights, placed there, would have signified Less absolute exclusion. ‘Nay’ is worse From God than from all others, O my friend! Men could not part us with their worldly jars, Nor the seas change us, nor the tempests bend; Our hands would touch for all the mountain-bars: And, heaven being rolled between us at the end, We should but vow the faster for the stars.

Sonnet 02 - But Only Three In All God’s Universe
there is nothing worse than a first impression all humans have one, weather you like it or not hell, I have first impressions all the time thing is, while we may have first impressions, it's stupid to trust them with the exclusion of cruelty and hubris, I have found that some of the most amazing people have the most apparent flaws unfortunately that comes with horrendous first impressions it is a huge flaw in human design to judge someone before even getting to know them that's why I usually ignore a first impression, in fact, sometimes I go against my instincts. if you judge someone before you get to know them based on a first glance, you'll regret it. Trust me.

first impressions
Time is an illusion A mindless exclusion The best and the worst The last and the first The past was a risk Does the future exist? It travels one way All day Clockwise Then comes sunrise Time and space An endless race Seconds go by But why? Time will end Space will bend Perception unravels The mind, it travels The thought it takes Make no mistakes A theory until With adequate skill Proof is found The truth, unwound We now know How it shall go Always, forever Through every endeavor Time is present Space is pleasant A partner, a friend Joined till the end (Can it exist? The thought is dismissed)

Time
Dressed in finest with diamonds and pearls, Draped in cascading waterfall of silk and lace, Velvety scent hovering delicate skin, Senses heightened, a muse enters the ball. Lights, glitters, somehow the chandeliers reflect, The festive and jovial non caring mob on the floor, Flirty and inviting giggles and smiles of women, Received by the charming and engaging flock of men. I hear a toast of welcomes and greetings. Glasses were raised of sweet bubbly champagne. Wishes of well-being and welcome filled the room. Faces passed into an recognizing blur of smolder. But the reception was a well-played sham, The festive, a rehearsed staged scene from your screenplay, Artists are your familiars that act on your command. With the exclusion of the maiden muse you invited.

Invitation to a Ball
All my life I’ve endured a weight of exclusion never the one who can always the one who can’t never the one with but constant without Standing afar a stranger in a whirl of happening where my would be never could be The birth of desire gifted in grief ability almost visible but before my hands could grasp the thief came to steal crushing me down It’s time to wipe the memory shake my head and say “no” that I will submit and agree to every thought declaring “this is who you are” This is the end of the exclusion road a termination for the could or would no more stranger wishing from afar the negative rejected because in these days I truly can and I know I will Exclusion where are you now? Your mighty weight has been discarded from my fortified bones the embellishment of your name erased from my beautiful skin today my revolution is real

My Revolution
leather of codes child of no garden I want to be trash shining metal bucket streets echoes of his scars crash deeply from his quick glance and words his crushed inner faces blow by me like shotgun shells flipping ejected a warm burn enters my ear and falls to the ground like pure seed there has been a siberian tiger heart perhaps a trumpet's bright coming tip in the night is his voice but night has no color, only the air of space and eternal infinite collossalness he has not been there, he knows I think I have been his voice hunts in silence the opening of his throat I never felt my neck arch as though I were angelic spinning holy pollen my feet are broken from my birth's uncertain angles my white skin is somber to me and it dreams of thick, muscular hair his back hunts me like a prowling silent perfect killer he has no meat for me in his most beautiful kind thoughts, nor ice I know he does not want my soul, its irrelevance like bad country music he glares at me his eyes are beautiful in their transubstantial wizardry as though I a child with no hope to ever be less or more this is the way beer cans bounce of cars better than wet silken ******* may rise he has felt his lover's wine fully enter him in his sweetest moments I am a child of no garden he would have but thoughts of exclusion are often only private codes of want his serbian tiger motion is utter but I am child of no garden until I can dance I know he so poignantly relevant would in some fierce and mad teach me of my father that I might be coddled beyond redemption my white skin he wants to giggle a soft stance or a minion of pretense I am fully truly what he sees, yet I cannot touch him he has no time for me I would see my heritage's murderous take he knows I bow down to his conspicuous innocence he has forgotten the child he knows I think I have been he wears a leather of codes I can never remember
