Tonight good Duncan, friend and guest This dagger shall pass through thy breast I shall be king as was the prophecy and belief Told by the hags upon the heath Unsexed like them, my Lady chides me still For my kindness and uncertain will Even as my dagger drips once more And blood from noble Banquo stains the floor Now in blood so far I'm steeped Only can I wade more deep But this horizon leads no longer to infinity Steadily it closes in on me Slow but marching all the same Toward the hill at Dunsinane And though those warning words I scorned Not all men are of woman born Thus proves the prophesy no lie Live by the sword and therefore by it die

With this Gift our Sterling Mentor progress In lending your time for our Efforts grow Though at first we fear the Alum Rod - less, Is really your Way of True Friendship show Though I ask where the First Silence once had Was which my Stamps took your Character stern That I actualise; A Great Heart you have Which we Stunned Locals have begun to Learn And really do your Words explain the Map This Growing Business where our Voices speed Helping your Brethren on their Cards and Lap With Excelled Service do we take great heed. And now you Return where most Teachers rest Feeling confident that we did our Best.

SONNET TRIBUTE: JULIE DUNCAN
Yesterday was a rotten one For Donald Trump. What a shame! In desperation Trump has jumped Out of the frying pan into the flame. His friend and former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, was convicted On eight felony counts, although More convictions had been predicted. Then his lawyer, Michael Cohen, Pleaded guilty on eight counts And implicated the president In a felony, as the tension mounts. Trump is an unindicted co- Conspirator in a federal crime, According to Cohen--something that many Have suspected all the time. Also, an early supporter in Congress, Hunter Duncan, was indicted For the misuse of campaign funds. Do all who touch Trump become blighted? Meanwhile, Omarosa says She has many more tapes to play. It almost seems as though the president's Teflon coating is wearing away. As Trump's Republican defenders In Congress flat out refuse to condemn Trump's actions, people wonder, "What does Putin have on THEM?" "I always hire the best people," Donald Trump would frequently boast. Stay away from Donald Trump Or you, too, are going to be toast. -by Bob B (8-22-18)

A Bad Day
Come see black night.  Black night proposes                                                       more Than madness in a prophet's dream, sets free A lean uncertainty, sweet taste of all We dare not see. My sweet Kathryn, you were older than me, Knew all the black mountains--Olson, Creely, Duncan, Morley, Dorn... While I                                            was learning Levertov.  Your dark, unshaven armpits Drove me wild.  I understood the honor Of that crazy night--how could feather leave you--                our dance at the outlaw bar, Your sapphic gaze bemused by coal miners, In cowboy boots, as the band played Haggard, Coe, Willie, Waylon, Johnny Cash, Kristofferson & Emmy Lou.  I wouldn't trade it for a date With Miss Brazil, or Russia as it were-- Some people say you made that up, Changed heritage and grew the hair to seem more European.  I couldn't care Less. A great dark mystery I loved Now thirty-seven years ago with me Just old enough to drink and you come down From Bingington, I loved the way you said That frozen town, where your husband lingered, Teaching English to native speakers. I know you still loved him. I think you loved Me, but needed a woman's touch the same As I.  Strange how a night can be recalled More than years, one drunken naked sunrise, Pillow talk instead of class.  I ditched the speech At PBK, can't remember what they Fed us, coming for you in a straight shift Chevy pickup, red as the night was black.

The sirens blared that 4th of July Officer Duncan gave Mammy a ride An emergency dash to the hospital He’s 2 months premature Mammy cried Deaf, dumb and blind is what the doctors said To our mother when Sammy was born But none of us kids ever were told Until Sammy was stable and grown Pappy declared that they’d both be fine Not believing dire news doctors gave We happily named him Uncle Sam Trusting in him to be strong and brave His 1st 5 months in an incubator Hooked up to every device In Newton Wellesley Hospital, 1959 A miracle saved his life Reaching gloved hands through holes in the side Weighing just a bit over 2 pounds Looking more like a spindly ET I was amazed to be hearing breath sounds Sam worked on doubling his weight by Christmas Nothing seemed easy or fast Still Mammy survived the eclampsia And Sammy went home at last Returning a few years later Sammy’s doctor she would find To show off to all the nurses Her son NOT deaf, dumb and blind I so love my brother Sammy Always felt like a sister and mother I’d give all I have for the time Just a minute more with my dear brother I’d speak to you of those 57 years Of the great whirligig you carved with your hands All the times you showed up for me Through the good and the bad our love stands You wasted no time hating anybody Children and dogs always your friends Quick for a laugh despite any lack I draw comfort that all your pain ends The sirens blared once again for you The ambulance came, the paramedics tried Racing you trying to save you All in vain, in the OR you died Like Tommy’s rock opera is over Perhaps you paused to speak to a stray dog While keeping your divine appointment By reaching right into the hand of God

*(A message to you Inspired by the THR Family)* You came to us sick, frightened, confused What happened next became international news. We saw you so ill, with everything to lose Our goal was to help you because that’s what we do. Alone in a dark ICU room We fought for your life, our team and you. We cared for you kindly No matter our fear You thanked us each time that we came near. As each day pressed on, you fought so hard To beat the virus that dealt every card. No matter how sick or contagious you were We held your hand, wiped your tears, and continued our care. Your family was close, but only in spirit They couldn't come in; we just couldn't risk it. Then the day came we saw you in there We wiped tears from your eyes, knowing the end was drawing near. Then it was time, but we never gave up Until the good lord told us he had taken you up. Our dear Mr. Duncan, the man that we knew Though you lost the fight, we never gave up on you. All of us here; at Presby and beyond Lift our hats off to you, now that you’re gone. You touched us in ways that no one will know We thank you kind sir for this chance to grow. May you find peace in heaven above And know that we cared with nothing but love. *~  postscript. this poem is not mine; it was penned by a nurse who wishes to remain anonymous. it spoke to me of the passion with which so many, many caregivers serve, so i wanted to share it with you, and in so doing salute each of those who serve us all in the medical community.   the following was published by ABC News on 10/20/14: "The last nurse to leave the hospital room where Thomas Eric Duncan died has written a poem about the Ebola patient, penned during the sleepless days after Duncan's death, a source told ABC News. The Associated Press. The source provided the poem to ABC News, noting that the nurse who wrote it asked to remain anonymous. Duncan, the first person in the United States to be diagnosed with Ebola, died at the Dallas hospital on Oct. 8. Two of the nurses who cared for Duncan -- Nina Pham, 26, and Amber Vinson, 29, have been diagnosed with Ebola.(Editor's note: THR refers to Texas Health Resources, the company that owns Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.)"*

The day following Cawdor's capture Was strange and grew stranger: Relief from battle's end, The weary ride's return. Three witches in a fen Pronounced Macbeth's sweet future Named him, "King," hereafter. Their prophecy fazed him, I think. Aware their source could only be the Devil, I queried them, "Prophesy the future to my line." Cackled utterances gave nothing to me, Except the fathering of kings, A promise I can only to leave to God. Shrieking and smoking, The hags evaporated Leaving us shaking, Alone in murky thought. I obeyed, as much as I am able, Macbeth's command To leave the hellish messengers' Words hanging in that fen. Tonight Glamis has become Cawdor; The day has trickled down to night; I am out upon the battlements, Too troubled now to sleep While Macbeth snores, content. He leaves to see his Lady in the morning. King Duncan follows after To celebrate the victory of Scotland, To honor the bravest of his heroes, The two-named Thane. Here above the courtyard, I pace beneath the tent of night, As witches' words I mutter, "And King hereafter." Something is not right.

Banquo, After the Witches...
From the bottom of the broken heart from those forced to go on workstart from the one parent child from the meek and the mild and the refugees from across the seas who sleep on the street from them poor souls who can't make ends meet from the old and the sick or the lonely at home, take your pick. They all wish Iain Duncan Smith a very merry Christmas.

I, far removed from battles roar Do fondly remember those boys Their smiles and laughter before Stand out among life's greatest joys No more the fierce warrior am I Just an old man with memories I am needing to just say goodbye And maybe, maybe my conscience appeases

By Me, the Great Duncan Fickle and ever indecisive, Destiny such a mistress Taunting at my soul, Yet, When it shines in your favor, Such a shine, shimmering with your jubilation for everyone to see Hopeing was now a tired act, Always the same night, same time, Deep in sleep wanting nothing more, Than to wake to someone, Anyone to just ease this, This tragic ironic loneliness I had put myself in "Why?!" I screamed to the heavens of my dark ceiling, Calling a question that mockingly, Never was answered, Yet No more, Live, I whisper to the glass and grass, Flowing and burning, Mimicking the nights, Speeding by, Blurs on a deserted and dark, desolated highway, thumbing my way down, Trying, searching, For the tell tale signs of destiny, Shimmering on the horizon, Till, Finally, in a bar, "Let the night begin!" We yell as we begin our hunt, Laughing, yet always on the scout, Never seeing her, Passing oh so close, Almost! The clock ticked down, Closer and closer as Destiny, That fickle mistress of my nightmares, As deemed fit, I met her tonight, For all my cries in the night, For all my past failures, For all the ones lost, I would find the one, I've been asking for, But only just, As the clock, Ticks, Down, Ever, Closer, Till... She smiles sweetly, I see her, only her, The rest is blurred, Distorted in the wake, Of the beauty, Radiating, Only for me Another smile, From on high, Destiny laughs, We embrace, A sigh, Happily, My question answered, "Why?!" I had screamed, Her, Destiny answered

It started out a day like any other. Down at Billy Bobs Nuclear Power Plant and toaster repair. Where I sit in front of the monitor with my dumb blank look and stare. Until my friend Jim came in, with coffee, doughnuts, and a magazine, he had grabbed from the john. Wouldn't you know it the centerfold was gone. So, I stood up to stretch and yawn. As I sat back down I knocked over the coffee, And the jelly doughnut rolled out the door into the hall. The array of toasters went up in flames, as did the magazine and the wall. Jim started talking like Captain Kirk, as he went into his Star Trek mode. I slapped him hard across the face, and informed him this Enterprise was set to blow. That's when we both turned and saw the florescent green ooze, seeping under the door. At that point it was every man for himself, as I pushed the elevator for the 13th floor. Leaving the babbling Jim behind, with the elevator on its way, pipping in a soft musical version of Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze. (which seemed to me rather odd) Once the doors slid open, thinking there's never been a 13th floor before, I was surrounded by flesh eating zombified rodents, About to become their lunch de jour. As the zombie rodents zeroed in, my friend Jim showed up...What luck. With communicator in hand, and in his best Kirk voice, He said, "Scotty beam us up". As we were high in the sky, I saw half of the south implode. As boring as this day started, you never would have know'd. I hated to leave the world behind, In such a mess, after my coffee spill. One thing I did leave, believe you me, Was Duncan Doughnuts the entire bill.

Beauty is a mold You have stolen for yourself No matter how I try I can't believe You were all that mattered All that matters to me now is to know you And the sound of your name Cassandra A touch of innocence In a guilty world I fell in love this morning with another girl Another name A different time It's all the same A light that always shined for Cassandra The angels never flew so free Your eyes sparkled electricity You dug into my heart and brought my vision back to life Graceful as Isadora Duncan on a ride Cassandra There are no innocents In a guiltless world I'll fall in love tomorrow with another girl Another name Every time I'll feel the same The light that always shined for Cassandra

GOS'POZHO! NE GO'VORYA' BALGARSKI (Madame! I Don’t Speak Bulgarian!) ( for Onelia ) I stand outside your world all voiced & unvoiced consonants (& yes I know voiced consonants can become voiceless but only in certain positions.) ‘mislya...’pisha (to think...to write) It’s all Cyrillic to me. Only able to enjoy the shape of it! б There is an O with a scarf billowing over its right shoulder that really is a b. (Reminds me of Isadora Duncan driving to her death her scarf getting caught in the wheel.) A capital Ɓ that is a v (Oh yeah? Yeah!) A large З that looks like a pair of ******* looking down from above from the side. (And Lord save us it’s...a z!) An X that’s a h! (I see...I see!) Ф An apple being cut in two by a knife once again looking down from above ...that’s an f. (Yes? Yes!) Something that could be a starburst Ж (zh...zh...zh) Such a treasure! Or a strong man clasping two ladies by the waist swooning to him in a tango one on either side. An Я looking the wrong way (Ya? Ya!) И Two capital I’s hanging out together with the I (i...i...i) on the right with its hand on the left one’s *** (naughty vowel...naughty vowel) Й And an other two I’s up to the same shenanigans but with half a halo over their heads as if they only wanted to be half good! Maybe one day I’ll learn A little Bulgarian (dogo’dina... dogo’dina) ((next year...next year)) But right now it’s all pictures to me that dash across my imagination. Stra’hotna ‘roklya! Iz’ghezhdash prek rasno! (Fabulous dress!) (You look great!)

A Couple O'Nuts
One hundred and fifty travelers each day Arrive from West African climes. While its clearly insane to let them board planes They can travel on scheduled airlines. If they’re asymptomatic, they enter our ports. Is the government out of its mind? With dishwashers and Laundries our first line of defense Ebola will spread over time. Airline and hotel stocks are selling off big Pharmaceuticals ought to do fine. A nurse who watched Duncan as he sickened and died Flies to Cleveland and back to big D Her temperature was merely ninety nine point five. “.Oh, you’re fine.” said the C-D-C.
