Differences of Love and lust
I'm big I suppose that's why my women always seem small but this 6 foot goddess who deals in real estate and art and flies from Texas to see me and I fly to Texas to see her-- well, there's plenty of her to grab hold of and I grab hold of it of her, I yank her head back by the hair, I'm real macho, I **** on her upper lip her **** her soul I mount her and tell her, "I'm going to shoot white hot juice into you. I didn't fly all the way to Galveston to play chess." later we lay locked like human vines my left arm under her pillow my right arm over her side I grip both of her hands, and my chest belly ***** **** tangle into her and through us in the dark pass rays back and forth back and forth until I fall away and we sleep. she's wild but kind my 6 foot goddess makes me laugh the laughter of the mutilated who still need love, and her blessed eyes run deep into her head like mountain springs far in and cool and good. she has saved me from everything that is not here.

"Six Foot Goddess" By Charles Bukowski
Above the caldera at Yellowstone, a brittle soil-rock crust caps a lake of liquid fire with only fumaroles and roiling geysers to slake its upward ****** A single heedless step is enough to breech that mantle's fragile seal - spelling death by fire to any hapless soul who fails to guard his steps. Fragile calderas also roil buried in dark crevices of our psyches - brewed of failures, slights and fears dissolved in fiery pools of self-consuming misery. To dress and salve our wounded souls we plant fertile gardens of reconciliation with beauty, trust and charity and kneel to gods of grace and solace. But a despot’s practiced eye knows how to tap our fragile crusts, releasing acrid lava flows from pools where fear and rage reign hot, and reason has no district. Friends and siblings - my flesh and kin, this world is ours to lose or save so let us seal well our Sacred Calderas from bitter foes that stalk us from within. July, 2006, revised December, 2014, 2015 and 2018 Robert Charles Howard

Rasta by the Water
Through an open window, I hear       the Big Thompson's steady music drifting up from the valley below. May breezes and gentle rains      coax the snow-capped peaks to surrender their alabaster cloaks       downslope into gathering streams. Silhouetted by light from the waxing moon,       a cinnamon bear lopes along water’s edge, pauses for a draught and meanders on. A bull elk newly coifed with velvet antlers         folds his legs beneath its belly and kneels into grasses beside a tranquil pond.         while the Big Thompson rushes on. Spring beauties, calypso orchids and geraniums          shake off their winter's sleep and dot every vagabond trail and verdant hill         while fresh new leaves adorn the aspen boughs. The Big Thompson inexorably presses on         bound for rendezvous with time and space and tumbles into the always patient sea. © 2017 by Robert Charles Howard

From the Mountains to the Sea
I wish you detox from drunken heights, I’m jesus for today until my current shift ends and the next one begins, after many nights, in the garden centre of fallen south coast eden. Shine shine shine Light of mine For now everything’s just fine People’s faces glitter as I go by, memories of sinless youth, for my hands blind with nostalgia, that my being resurrects. The child Lazarus scurries past my side, to his home with his future in his hands, in my hands, cupped wide. Shine shine shine Light of mine For now everything’s just fine I can love the unfortunate, for my fortune is golden. Delivered in letters from North, West, East. My trinity circle who join me at my supper, breaking the garlic bread and sipping the borello, to top crab ravioli baptised in the stream of sauce. Shine shine shine Light of mine For now everything’s just fine The gates of heaven are open, unblocked by the deaths of Keats, Shelley and Williams, their souls not blocking the exit with an Underground Queue. I give my blessings to Livingstone and Charles Gordon The one native he changed and the others’ sacrifice at Khartoum Gained me my crown to modestly flaunt. Shine shine shine Light of mine For now everything’s just fine I float down the hall, to His Mighty Voice, as my gold becomes a donation on the alter, to gain the choral hymns of Mercury gilded rock gods that will brighten my days for now, oh glorious moments. Amen.

The Messiah In Miss Hart's Class.
Out on the frozen Charles, alone but for the creak of the ice beneath, and the singing of the winter wind, and the glitt'ring of the city lights, more num'rous than the stars at night, life wells up inside of me. I am a river that's in flood; balloon at full capacity. The universe runs through my blood. At times like this I know why. I know why I am alive.

Existentialism
\ih-SPAHY-uhl\ noun 1. the act of spying. 2. the act of keeping watch; observation. Quotes The landlord of the house had not withdrawn his eye from this place of espial for five minutes, and Barney had only just returned from making the communication above related, when Fagin, in the course of his evening's business, came into the bar to inquire after some of his young pupils. -- Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist, 1838 s Origin Espial is related to the word espy, which comes from the German word spähen meaning "to spy." The suffix -al forms nouns from verbs, as in the word refusal.

i've been reading poetry ee cummings and-- sylvia plath pretty pools of words filled with color --and ducks charles bukowski is a ***** old man lots of ***** old words and images but real dirt, not pretend real's so hard to find these days they talk about love like it's broken--painful--deadly-- always wonderfully beautiful (like the beautiful snake whose poison's killing you) that's not love because it's falling asleep with warm breath on the back of your neck and your bed a little too small because it's laughing so hard that you almost snort macaroni and cheese out your nose because it's doing laundry and pausing just to notice how your clothes smell like her because it's waiting alone, imagining how big you'll smile when she comes back - it's always bigger than you think. because it's knowing that the pain's not part of love, it's part of being human they don't know nearly as much as they think-- they do i love-- baseball in the park when it's not too hot (I play shortstop) chocolate ice cream cones in the hot sun (dripping down my hand) flying kites in autumn winds (the falling leaves make the difference) sledding through the snow (and crashing into snowbanks) i love-- coca-cola (in the glass bottles) root beer (with vanilla ice cream) 7-up (it's better than sprite) mountain dew (caffeine!) i love-- you (and the soapy smell after you shower) you (making me laugh more) you (how much you care about people) you (and you let me, too) that's my proof they don't know (what they're talking about that is) so-- i think poetry is overrated

An elephant and a dog became pregnant at the same time. Three months down the line the dog gave birth to six puppies. Six months later the dog was pregnant again- and nine months on the  dog gave birth to another dozen puppies. The pattern continued. On the eighteenth month the dog approached the elephant questioning- “Are you sure you’re pregnant? We became pregnant on the same date ; I have given birth three times to a dozen puppies, and they have grown to become big dogs, yet you are still pregnant. What’s going on?” The  elephant replied- “ There is something I want you to understand. What I am carrying is  not a puppy, but an elephant. I only  give birth to one in two years. When my baby hits the ground- the earth feels it. When my baby crosses the road- human beings stop and watch in admiration. What I carry draws attention, so what I’m carrying is mighty and great!” *Don’t  lose faith when you see others receive answers to their prayers. Don’t be envious of others testimonies. If you haven’t received your own blessings- don’t despair. Say to yourself, *“My time is coming, and when it hits the surface of the earth- people  shall yield in admiration.”*

But – just when I’ve managed to harden my heart, he’ll turn around and be so sweet. “ “You like him a lot, don’t you?”* The night crumbles to dust as I trace every single crease, every nook, every edge of you. I drink you in, you drink cheap wine: you only kiss me with alcohol in your blood, you cannot stomach me without the drugs. A pile of cigarette ash on the floor, broken glass. Shattered ice cubes and cigarette butts. It’s a scene of decay; you and I could only survive if you whispered sweet nothings and I let you gut me. You lead me on and I always slip, and touch you and believe this time will be the time you stay, this time will be the time you remember last night morning come, this time will be the time I am the one. It rains the first time and there’s a bottle of scotch; we play cards; you’re drunk: I strip you off; tonight you smile; tonight you will not mind if I touch your jaw your lips your waist and below and your heart no – never your heart. Then it’s a matter of time. You always come when you need me and I can never refuse to be the one who lets your tongue explore my mouth if only drunk if only for a while if only for the night. I’m there. I will do. For now. I kiss your lips your throat your neck your collarbones and down – way down – below and your heart no – never your hear. You twist me round your little finger and I would die and die and **** and die a thousand times to have you look at me and say I’ll stay tonight. My Charles. No – never mine.

*by Charles Wesley (1707-1788)* Come, Thou long expected Jesus Born to set Thy people free; From our fears and sins release us, Let us find our rest in Thee. Israel's strength and consolation, Hope of all the earth Thou art; Dear desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart. Born Thy people to deliver, Born a child and yet a King, Born to reign in us forever, Now Thy gracious kingdom bring. By Thine own eternal Spirit Rule in all our hearts alone; By Thine all sufficient merit, Raise us to Thy glorious throne. ~ Charles Wesley

Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus (hymn)
I never met a storm I didn't like I wish I could say the same for people Though sometimes I think They have as little control Of what they destroy As storms I think I could love anyone, that shared a mountain coast with me. Those rocks and rivers and beachfront caves? I feel like a pirate. And I believe not caring what others think, Is a coward's way to self-esteem. You can't make everyone happy That doesn't mean you shouldn't try. I can seem cold But what you're hearing Is precision It makes sense when you love words And hate being misunderstood. I hate when people argue to be right Instead of understand It's self-indulgent And dehumanizing And so very me. I'm such a nerd I'd need another poem to convey how much But I think it will suffice to say If you like Will McAvoy The Dragonborn Charles Spurgeon Vault Dwellers or the Crystal Gems We'll probably get along. And lastly I only wrote this poem Because I hate not having an answer To "tell me about yourself."

"Tell Me About Yourself"
Cool black night thru redwoods cars parked outside in shade behind the gate, stars dim above the ravine, a fire burning by the side porch and a few tired souls hunched over in black leather jackets. In the huge wooden house, a yellow chandelier at 3 A.M. the blast of loudspeakers hi-fi Rolling Stones Ray Charles Beatles Jumping Joe Jackson and twenty youths dancing to the vibration thru the floor, a little **** in the bathroom, girls in scarlet tights, one muscular smooth skinned man sweating dancing for hours, beer cans bent littering the yard, a hanged man sculpture dangling from a high creek branch, children sleeping softly in their bedroom bunks. And 4 police cars parked outside the painted gate, red lights revolving in the leaves. December 1965

First Party At Ken Kesey's With Hell's Angels
I am the love killer, I am murdering the music we thought so special, that blazed between us, over and over. I am murdering me, where I kneeled at your kiss. I am pushing knives through the hands that created two into one. Our hands do not bleed at this, they lie still in their dishonor. I am taking the boats of our beds and swamping them, letting them cough on the sea and choke on it and go down into nothing. I am stuffing your mouth with your promises and watching you ***** them out upon my face. The Camp we directed? I have gassed the campers. Now I am alone with the dead, flying off bridges, hurling myself like a beer can into the wastebasket. I am flying like a single red rose, leaving a jet stream of solitude and yet I feel nothing, though I fly and hurl, my insides are empty and my face is as blank as a wall. Shall I call the funeral director? He could put our two bodies into one pink casket, those bodies from before, and someone might send flowers, and someone might come to mourn and it would be in the obits, and people would know that something died, is no more, speaks no more, won't even drive a car again and all of that. When a life is over, the one you were living for, where do you go? I'll work nights. I'll dance in the city. I'll wear red for a burning. I'll look at the Charles very carefully, weraing its long legs of neon. And the cars will go by. The cars will go by. And there'll be no scream from the lady in the red dress dancing on her own Ellis Island, who turns in circles, dancing alone as the cars go by.

"Hey, Charles! I won't be back." His friend yells out before Continuing to eat the face off Of the young Latino he had met. "Ok! I guess I can get home.. Somehow..." He mumbles to himself, signaling to the Bartender that he wanted to order Something off menu. He pays no attention to the trans Woman who sits down beside him. "I'll have a watermelon sangria, please." he requests softly, but confidently. The lady by him chuckles, "Watermelon? That's odd." Her voice is rich with flavor, And humor. "It is odd. But so am I." He mumbles. "It seems that way, doesn't it? Well, at least now I can call you Melon Rather than ask your name!" "A rather odd nickname for an odd person." And so their conversation continued. It became all the more lively once 'Melon' had had a couple rounds. Both drunk and desperate, they Kiss passionately in the gay bar, Paying no heed to the others Yelling "Get a room!" Roaming hands. Stumbling up stairs. Drunken giggles. Broken speech. "You're so beautiful." He whispers. Skin against skin, Burning hot,   Both mad with desire. Panting. Groaning. Moaning. Ecstasy. Someone said my monkey's dead, But confusion hit their head, Made them think that this is true, I'm in a funk, what can I do? Then they soon told my neighbors, yes, Put my monkey to the test, Called the papers just long enough to say, Yes, my monkey ran away. I searched high, and I searched low, Dropped a rock upon my toe, Hit my head on a doorway hard, Couldn't find my monkey in the yard. Traveled to the mountains nearby, Looking for monkey made me cry, Saw the clouds come floating by, A speck of dirt flew in my eye. Checked the traveling circus troup, For details on missing monkey scoup, Learned that he had traveled through, What am I supposed to do? Boarded a boat set for the Indian Ocean, Got sea sick from the crazy motion, Tried to eat, but it all came up, Couldn't drink the swirl in my cup. Once in Africa, deep in the jungle, Searched for monkey and took a tumble, Found a panther hiding in the bush, Felt flat hard upon my **** So, no monkey, not anywhere, Does the world so truly care? Waited patiently in a Star Bucks shop, In came monkey and my coffee I dropped. Called him by his first name, Charles, Saw him stare and then he snarled, Ran so fast for the door, he did, What a silly and audacious kid. Ran pursuit down a cobbled stone road, Saw my monkey drop his precious load, Screamed at him to stop and say, Where he goes on this very day. When my breath was heavily panting, Stopped my call and my ranting, Figured if he so desperately was going, No more to care and no more knowing. Monkey, monkey where are you? Are you hiding in the zoo? Will you ever be around? You're a silly, slippery clown.

They gathered by Williamson Road at sun-up       from neighboring spreads across the Tioga valley. They came with carts laden with lumber stacks -       with saws, adzes, hammers and sundry tools. They gathered with the homesteaders bond.       to co-build their neighbor's' dreams. Sweet music of community echoed off the hills.      Chisels clanged into rock, shaping the foundation, saws sang into boards to frame a timbered skeleton.      The staccato syncopation of hammers fastened walls that soon would shelter plowshares, stock and grain.       A smithy leaned over his fire and forge - chiming iron into sturdy latches and hinges.      Children scurried about mixing squeals and laughter with exuberant fetching and lifting whenever called.      In two short passings of the sun the deed was done       and a handsome new barn, decked out in a wash of red was silhouetted tall and proud against the fading light. Homesteaders gathered at a celebration table       to share a hearty meal adorned by the music of fiddles, grateful smiles and easy laughter.    Then one by one they steered their wagons home       gazing back at what their labors had wrought - knowing to the depth of their communal souls       that we are more together than we are apart Listen up, America!  This is the music of community.       We are more together than we are apart. © 2016 by Robert Charles Howard

…*in every visible character man differs less from the higher apes, than these do from the lower members of the same order of Primates*.                                                                            Charles Darwin, 1871 The Other claims descent from apes then acts like a violent monkey. It pillages, it loots and rapes performing as Satan’s flunkey. Its actions bear the mark of Cain; brandishing cameras, smashing things. We feel its proto-human pain yet dread the urban woe it brings. It tries to justify, with words its primal carnage, childish rage. With anthropoid designs deferred it struts the Darwinian stage. The higher primate government rewards them well in ripe bananas for wrecking their environment (jungle as well as savannas). Their mate selection (naturally): a semi-simian solution: intercoursing sexually, to hasten their evolution. The wombs enlarge—they drop their young then text their friends while getting high. They swing from tree-tops, fling their dung, while down below the humans sigh.
