"brightening" poems
Four years have past
Yet your memory seems to last
I shed my tears across the page
My heart threatens to break it's cage
This year you'll be twenty-one
Drinking alone isn't going to be fun
The track ran smooth, but your hear was frail
You worked yourself over the rail
One lap, two lap, three lap, four
I count the miles wanting more
You loved the track, you loved the sun
I imagine you with me when I run
Your auburn hair, your glowing eyes
Your smiles brightening darkened skies
I smile for you, you smile for me
It fills my heart with shortened glee
Goodbye dear Sara, we'll miss you so
I love you dear, remember you're no longer a child of woe

Hijab is my crown
shaped in a circle
around my head
like that of a full moon
bringing light
from the One
who has commanded me
to wear it
to my face
Hijab is my crown
shaped in a circle
around my head
like a merry-go-round
rotating with a joyful force
in places near and far
illuminating its power
a reflection of my soul
and inner beauty
Hijab is my crown
shaped in a circle
around my head
the way whirling dervishes move
we're so high
aspiring nearness to Allah Masha'Allah
our act of wearing hijab daily
deserving of much respect
and Insha Allah
The Seventh Heaven
Hijab is my crown
shaped in a circle
around my head
like a spinning wheel
many made
in different colors
and in different textures
each brightening the world
and when wearing it
like Khadijah (AS), Fatimah (AS), and Aisha (RA)
attracts attention of the best kind
Hijab is my crown
shaped in a circle
around my head
like Big Ben
I'm so high
dignified
a visible ambassador
of Islam
saying no to immodesty
and saying yes to our Majesty
Hijab is my crown
shaped in a circle
around my head
like a halo
starting my day with Bismillah
and looking into the mirror
to carefully donn it
I remember
I'm doing this to help men
married and unmarried
from sinning
and to protect myself
from impurity and immoral acts
as
Hijab is my crown
for me a Queen

From far away a breeze in a rush comes;
From far away the sky breaks into crumbs.
A brightening purple lightning,
it is both enlightening and frightening.
In rhythm with my pulse flashes burst,
horripilated, in purple I am immersed.
With every heartbeat in my veins,
with every grain of sand in my hands,
I watch that ray of light on the edge of all my nerves,
how unpredictable it is, how it swerves.
First silent in a bare heavenly light
it strokes your skin, that godly shine.
Then loud, purple turns to night;
It brings forth hell from the most divine.
Tender lake, it does not wave, stars remain, above is calm;
Purple surrounds me, I’m in the middle of its palm.
Purple trembles the sand and lake, faster and faster,
without any pester, it just simply embraces all in fester.
Every breath like last I gasp;
I sit in awe, this is beyond any human’s grasp.
No reason, no choice, no need;
The most peaceful thing now I see, it is from it.
It does not decide, it just makes its own path;
Astonishing beauty I find in that purple, atop its wrath.

The Sun Catcher in my kitchen window
Twirls as it tosses light
Brightening everything it touches
Adding a sparkle to life
Catches the Suns special wonder
Brings it into my room
Plays off glasses and dishes
Dancing to its very own tune

I looked at you and I knew how
Truly Deeply in love I was
Your eyes glistening like stars
Your smile brightening my heart
I thought of you and I knew how
Truly Deeply in love I was
Your arms entangling me in love
Your heart capturing me in warmth
I felt your touch and I knew how
Truly Deeply in love I was
Because my heart skipped a beat
every time your soft skin touched mine
I listened to you and I knew how
Truly Deeply in love I was
Your words sending me into deep though
Your words making me feel loved
I thought about losing you and I knew
how
Truly Deeply in love I was
Feeling hollow, empty at the thought
You are the reason I am
Truly and Deeply in love

god gloats upon Her stunning flesh. Upon
the rechings of Her green body among
unseen things, things obscene (Whose fingers young
the caving ages curiously con)
—but the lunge of Her hunger softly flung
over the gasping shores
leaves his smile wan,
and his blood stopped hears in the frail anon
the shovings and the lovings of Her tongue.
god Is The Sea. All terrors of his being
quake before this its hideous Work most old
Whose battening gesture prophecies a freeing
of ghostly chaos
in this dangerous night
through moaned space god worships God—
(behold!
where chaste stars writhe captured in brightening fright)

Feel
the raindrops roll down your face,
wrapping you in their liquid embrace.
See
the blinding lightning
the dark clouds, brightening.
Taste
the crisp water pouring from the sky
the rain, leaving nothing dry.
Hear
the roaring thunder,
filling you with wonder.
Know
that after this,
the thirsty earth will return to bliss.

Thunder and pain,
Feeling the rain.
Waiting for salvation,
In a night of starvation.
Brightening the dark sky,
The lightning, fly by.
Why i so feel?
It will make me heal.
Giving self a justification,
For every piece of action.
If it is wrong or right,
Who is to decide?
There is nothing to gain,
Life will eventually drain.
In the moment of despair,
Let hope, make it repair.
Like a thunder in the clouds,
Break through every bounds.
Like the sound of the light,
Keep the zeal to fight.
Your thirst will be quenched,
Thunder will give you the strength...

That whistling Milkman so long ago
With tunes so happy and gay,
So very little did he know
How well he started my day,
The tinkling bottles
Of milk and cream,
Awoke me each morning
From my dreams,
With happy tunes
From this whistling man,
Brightening the day
Before it began.

Here I am wandering,
Wishing to see you shining
To give me happiness
To take away my loneliness.
But then when I started gazing
All I see is nothing
Coz there was no you;
By that moment, I feel blue.
But still, I kept on waiting
While fervently wishing and hoping
Until I saw a little shining light
And I know it is you, brightening the night.

It's been 5 months
Recovering from 2 years
Of gentle giggles and heart felt hugs
2 am conversations and 3 am tired kisses
5 am would bring brightening skies and quiet goodnights
You always were a night-owl
I remember running through the forest
Staring out at our special spot
Listening to the water trickle down the creek
And something about the sparks in your eyes
Really made the place disappear
Even surrounded by all this magnificent nature
I was still lost in your beauty
I remember telling you my dreams
The adventurous journey across the Milky Way
When it rained clocks and time stopped
And that really stupid one about the tricycle in the skate park
You would always listen and tell me yours
But the real dream was seeing you when I woke up
I remember many special things with you
You were my first girlfriend
My stunning homecoming date
The first person to make me cry out of happiness
You were my best friend
I will never forget that
I remember a bitter-sweet memory of us too.
The room was quiet
I only heard the scratching from your pet mice.
The street lamp crawled through the blinds
And a warm hand touched my red, flooded, cheek
And our lips met
My first kiss, Your first kiss
Complete.
It's been 5 months
Recovering from 2 years
Of gentle giggles and heart felt hugs
2 am conversations and 3 am tired kisses
5am only brings my tear filled eyes nowadays
I've always been an insomniac

her churiyan clashed
submerging in the red, orange and green
of her sharara
as she spun round and round
a blur of striking colors
her laughing face hidden
among those of her cousins
as they danced in a circle
each girl wearing colors of the rainbow
smiles like the sun brightening their faces
their bare feet decorated with mehndi
as they spun on their toes
letting their hair follow them like velvet curtains
the pitter patter of their restless feet
becoming one with the music around them
the elders of the family
throwing rose petals and clapping
watching the new generation
bless the married couple
with laughter, colors & life
the girl with curls in her hair
pulling down the bride-to-be
off the stage and onto the dance floor
her fiancé nudging her and watching his future
twirl with the young girls
as families became from two to one
he looked upon his love with eyes full of wonder
as she pushed back her dark hair and hid her face
refusing to dance
but even the blushing bride couldn't stop the girls
from convincing her to join them
they took her by the hands
and let the music guide them as they threw their arms in the air
swaying to songs about boundless ishq
and the stars which shine upon those who fall in the arms of endless love
the bride's red gharara shimmering under the lights
complimenting the red in her cheeks
the sparkle in her teeka bright
but never brighter than the twinkle in her euphoric eyes
her mother teared watching her baby all grown up
and her father looked at her as his success
seeing his only daughter so full of joy
others onlooked
as the girls embraced their youth
and with the bride created a circle of joy
for that moment,
the love was shared between them all
they forgot all about their heartbreaks
and the everlasting love which never lasted
they forgot all about the boys with pretty eyes and even prettier lies
as they rejoiced over the love of their loved ones
with a little inch of hope in their own hearts
that someday someone would look at them
as the smiling groom did the stunning bride
*passion. surety. serenity.

Every now and then, there is a person
Brightening the universe everyday
Someone who is always thinking of others
Selfless,
Often sacrificing their own needs for those of others
That person is my mom.
My mom is the sun that spills in
When I have a rainy day
My mom is the one who is there
With a hug and words that make everything okay.
My mom has seen many cracks in her life
Yet she keeps it all together
Mending those cracks with her powerful love
Giving all of herself to her children and grandchildren
And anyone else lucky enough to have her in their lives.
My mom is not an ordinary mom
She is a gift from the stars
From a magical place way beyond this Earth.
Her love envelops me
Making me a better person
A wiser adult.
When I think of love
Her face is the first thing I see
When I feel that warm safe feeling
I think of my mom.
My mom remains the light
At the end of a very long tunnel
As the earth changes and life disappoints
She is the one constant star in my solar system.

In only minutes, surging wind brought rain, then pounding hail into this verdant canyon. The mountain disappeared into the mist, and in its place the full arc of a brightening rainbow. Almost as quickly, the mountain's face reappeared, while more rain poured down, now through brilliant sunlight. The rainbow remains, plunging its feet into the very roots of the valley.

I balance
Rotating and fixed
Upright
Suspended freely
Compelling insight
Keeps me
Remaining right side up
As I revolve in this life
Breaking the chains of
Weak slavery in my
Self created habits
I reconstruct the wheel
To appeal in an
Exercise of wisdom
Within the universal
Kingdom of resurrected
Light
I am certain to follow
My soul path as I journey
Deeper into my heart
For what I believe
Controlled not by
Useless desires
Destroyed not
By grief
Rising
Eyes wide open
In relief
I choose my trials wisely
From this moment on
I choose to learn
For the last time
Trials that no longer
Promise to teach me
Anything more
In a golden ratio
Of vibrating love
I engage the power
Of every beacon
Every tower
Resilient to
Shine
I choose to learn
For the last time
Trials that no longer
Teach me
Divine
Mental powers expanding
My cup of realization
Has the capacity
To hold an ocean
Of understanding
Awareness enlightening
Brightening knowledge
Surrounding me
In footfalls
Of cascading
Arms and light
Day and night
Day and night
I smile the indestructible smile
Within this ferris wheel
I balance
Rotating and fixed
Upright
Suspended freely
Compelling insight
Keeps me
Remaining right side up
As I revolve in this life
The milky serpents of stars above
Reveal a code of comprehension
For earth and celestial
Apprehension
A blinding
A blurring
Elements stirring
Strength
Great works of
Perseverance unfold
The beating sky beholds
An invitation opening
Beyond the gates of
Heaven and hell
Intertwined
Break the
Shell
You are the master
Of your ferris wheel

You've filled up my heart.
You're brightening my soul.
Even just your smile,
Gives me reason to glow.
You cannot possibly know,
How happy that you make me.
I still can't believe,
That I got to see you that day.
You're voice had my heart soaring.
I just can't get over it.
Everything about you,
Is all so perfect.
Also that you hugged me.
You didn't even have to be asked.
You just came along and did it.
But it was still over too fast.
It did last long,
But nothing's ever enough.
Not when you take account of,
How much I love you and not lust.
I guess you could say,
I lust for you too.
My feelings aren't full of lust though.
It's really all just of love.
Now I feel renewed.
Like you've topped my happiness up.
I can't wait until next time,
Because last time was just great.

Not all can be lost in the midst of so much.
Not all can be lost in the thought of your touch,
And the sound of your sighs, the indescribable look
With brightening eyes and the patience it took.
Perhaps I have given you no more than you deserve,
And still what do I possess that was more than your words?
Hold me; hold me now like you did before,
Before the disillusionment before love swayed to war.
Call to me tell me my name, so I can answer
And you can know that I came. My love
I only want to feel safe with my heart in your hands.
I only want to be close enough to feel you from where I stand.
I remember candle light and sharing souls I remember long
Stairs into starlit eyes and bearing the scares we wore
Compared to recent wounds. Hush now it rains,
When your eyes mist over my old pains ache,
Like my wrist and my heart in my chest,
You are all of the things I've grown to like best.
So you lied and I feel you steeling my perception of us,
Slowly returning head down with my mad mangled trust.
As the ground shook I felt it all lost.
I know that’s not true, I know that I must
Know something of who you are,
You’re the same sweet handsome boy,
Who first made me see stars.
And a brand new mark among the scars on my heart.

look at your smile,
calming the waves
and flattening the seas,
stopping the sky
and all that it sees,
look at your smile,
freezing time
and brightening the day,
taking all the darkness
and sadness away,
while here i stand,
my body numb
and eyes gazing,
my mind blank
and heart blazing,
while i stand here,
loosing gravity
and feeling no weight,
frozen in time
in this joyous state,
look at your smile,
ending all sounds
and silencing all voices,
altering reality
and changing all choices,
look at your beautiful smile,
more beautiful than the heavens,
more beautiful than land and sea combined,
more beautiful than mother nature,
more beautiful than any creator has ever designed,

Crimson maple buds magically pucker
under brightening skies
Lenten rose reluctantly unfolds
absolving the shadowed snow,
stemming the wintertide
Spring's impending bloom
mystically stirs the delicate human heart
soothing from outside its sheltering shell
A converging pleasantness
of a sunshine sown awakening
cleanses each morning breath drawn
to sate an urgent restrained longing
The wilderness carpet comes alive
with a burgeoning salient sweetness
drawing out a glimmer of gladness
from stale suffocating darkness’
wallowing in the winter ennui
Another kind of poignant balm sinks
from the tall mountain willow tree
touching the sprouting blue sky
Furry fragrant catkins blossom sweetly
like the remnants of a love once known
softly brushing against a fading memory
of unerasable stains begrudgingly beget
Like fawning flowers falling fallow
in a passing season’s pollination breeze
Manipulating frayed heartstrings,
unhealed as the deer peeled scars
and rubbed bark of a mountain willow,
scarred from another season past
Some protective shell ― never grows back
when benign heartwood is brought to light

She is my light
in every pitch black evening.
Her light cuts through every angle
brightening up
each part of me.
She is my only guide
the star I follow
to a final destination
of home, of happiness
of eternal warmth and security.
She is my inspiration.
The reason I wake up everyday
with purpose, with intent
of becoming a better me.
The reason, I go to sleep
with a smile.
For every slumber,
comes another morning
which means a day closer to her.
She is my stargirl. :)
She is loved.
She is yearned for.
She is worth waiting
and risking for.
Yours and only yours, Anne.

And thus when the sun would rise, it should be determined;
I had lost, failed to wipe out the transience of a dreams miracle,
Leaning back as the stars fade one after another in the brightening sky
I find myself smiling, at the disappearing sight of the lunar rabbit after the moon too had sunken down to rest without a single cloud having witnessed it, the heavens remain only filled with great light.
While everyone rejoyed with a big smile to the morning which welcomes them to be again, hard working and productive, I can't help it but to feel sad, having to accept my destiny of never breaking free.
The fleeting time passes aimlessly, only for me to have faint courage,
Glooming, one would even embrace the darkness which befalls the world at a time which ceases to let even crystal starlight seep through,
This is where the dreams created in the world of fantasy are born,
That's a repeated story, they bloom, scatter then fall, recycling again.
Shining and withdrawing itself, there is always my presence in a dream, so dance in the dark night my beloved servant, have we really lost if I do not fade away and perish ~ ? Yes, we have, sadly enough.
Yet I should engage ourselves with the solance;
I don't have to die in a dream.

If the mediterranean waves could carry me to your arms,
I'd wake up to your whispers, enchanted by your charms.
If the wafting wind could breeze me to your bed
Our longing lips would hiss and kiss,in hungry emotions wed.
If this love i feel could linger in your heart,
If we could live our dulcet dreams, and never ever be apart,
If i could be with you and you could be with me,
We'd watch Our stars at night, sparkling in secret splendour,
brightening,shining our blissful destiny.
If we could be together, until the day 'Forever',
I'd hold on to your hand,be the significant other,
your dedicated lover and even your bestfriend.
I'd be your daily listener,your passion,your romance,
I love you to infinity, till universal ends.
If we could lie together on gossamer powdered sands
On threaded silken sheets sewn by the mermaids'hands.
If we could hear the sweetest sounds of shells and corals play,
If I could whisper out your name and hear You answer everyday,
If i just turn around to find you looking my way,
If I could be with you to live the promise of 'Today'
Tomorrow I'd still be there, a lavender in your grey.

I went out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
And when white moths were on the wing,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout.
When I had laid it on the floor
I went to blow the fire aflame,
But something rustled on the floor,
And some one called me by my name:
It had become a glimmering girl
With apple blossom in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air.
Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone,
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.
