things of wonder
wiltedfloret Jul 2015
you told me you didn't see anything of wonder
even when you're ankle deep in a garden of flowers
just how much of your world is black and gray
you never did see the way the light kiss your lips
how it accentuates the color of your tan

you told me there's nothing to listen to
even when the birds are chirping for all their worth
I guess you've been sitting too long in the silence
and how loud can silence actually be
until you've grown deaf to any other sound
other than the way your misery screams

I don't blame you if you walk away
you told me there wasn't anything to see or listen to anyway
I thought you meant the bland and the dull
the way gray and black never did seem to fit together
the way everything seems to be holding its breath
no, I guess you never did see anything of wonder
not even me

please, stop killing me with all of my favorite flowers
because I swear I couldn't stop seeing red every time I try to sleep
why won't you dream about me
cause I'm the reason you're alone now
quit blaming everything on your hometown
why would you say that
