In winter when monsters grow;
when cold and desolation rule,
muddied snow and gray skies
feed the shadows in my mind.

Crawling out of the darkness,
goblins weigh on my heart,
like the parasite they are,
******* the joy from life.

In winter, when monsters grow,
when frost imprisons me,
choking the light from the world,
and feeding the misery within.

Depression, the monster of winter,
crawls into the confines of my being,
and fills me with sadness,
in this cold northern climate.

By a crackling fire, they stood,
whispering promises,
in a cream-white dress and lace,
a bouquet of flowers nearby.

Gazing into the other’s eyes,
they recited their love troths,
and began their adventure,
with a simple “I do".

She whispers to me,
on the brisk morning breeze,
in the flowers of spring,
and the leaves on the trees.

Wrapping me in her arms,
when I’m troubled and scared,
reassuring and calm,
like the warmth of the air.

She oft holds my hand,
when we trek winter’s cold,
and she whispers to me,
“You are never alone”.

Though you left long ago,
you're not far from my side,
a mom and her daughter,
whose love never dies.

WHY
Vicki Kralapp Aug 2012
WHY
Bleeding, I am bleeding
my lifeblood is draining away.
You’ve taken my will, my love, my all,
Why?

A lifetime spent with you,
endless memories waking me now
reminding me of what we once were .
Why?

Friend? Where can I find you?
You disappeared in one surreal moment,
leaving only your image.
Why?

Under your foot I am crushed,
broken and bruised; in crisis.
You pushed me away and finished it.
Why?

I have tripped over life
and fallen headlong into the abyss
without you.
Why,  always why?

You whisper your love song tenderly
upon the early morning breeze.
You tease me awake, as the wind
plays her melody through my open window

Tiny prisms of light above my head
perform their morning ballet on the ceiling
each reflected from shards of painted glass
that harmonize on the wind.

This hymn of childhood memories;
mornings of endless possibilities;
each melody a reminder of beauty
each day sings to us on the wind.

With every breath
and every move,
I take you in
and make you mine

You are
the very air I need,
my every thought,
my silent prayers.

Your touch
leaves me thrilled,
longing for more,
always wanting for more.

Your sound is familiar,
like my own breath.
The song of your voice,
like my soul singing back to me.

Your face
mirrors my own,
and shines it's sweetness,
back to me in the morning light.

I have found
myself in you,
my purpose
now and forevermore.

This silence, so loudly it weeps,
of thoughts, lonely and isolating,
that surround, engulfing me,
within my ancient past.

This silence, so loudly it whispers,
enveloping me so completely,
within its protection,
wrapping me in ethereal healing.

This silence, so loudly it speaks,
within the steps I walk,
upon this empty beach,
listening at last to its mystical message.

This silence, so loudly it sings,
with each passing wave ,
drumming gratefulness for the day,
and chanting above mankind.

This silence, so majestic it paints,
each sunrise and sunset,
yearning to surpass yesterday’s,
with stunning celestial hues.

This silence, so loudly it beats within,
as I make it my own,
quieting my soul,
I search beyond.

A lifetime, yet just yesterday,
does not seem very far away.
When time was young and I was free
to be who I was made to be.

The eyes behind which I now hide
can’t show the sadness held inside.
This girl screams out for all to hear
in silent torture, hers to bear.

The shell of which I‘d been before,
has led me through a different door.
To dream of love another day
Just waiting to be blown away.

Upon this face the lines are etched
in bold to let all others guess.
The meaning of the truth I seek
to heal the very heart of me

I search to end this awful pain
that always lets me cry in vain
While loneliness my lifelong friend
has led me down this road again.

You are my beginning and end,
the very breath I breathe.
My heart, my life, my soul,
my all.

You've made this life worth living.
The way that you love me,
with your kindness, understanding and joy,
I am moved.

Your heart, so sincere and trusting,
draws me in, making me whole.
All others, that came before,
are but faint counterfeits.

So wonderful are you that I melt in your arms,
not needing more, nor wanting for more.
One half of a whole was I...
You have come to complete me.

Your love is like an ocean so big and so blue,
its powerful waves sweep me along with you.
Its sights are unearthly and wonderful still,
and your heart like the ocean just waiting to fill.

Your love, like the poet writing words on my heart,
the musician which plays the chords of a song on the harp.
Like a storm where the lightening flashes late in the night,
that makes me hide away in my bed out of sight.

Your love is the song that I feel in my heart,
it's the song that I have felt from the start.
It's the pounding of hearts and the bonding of souls,
a promise that's made that makes two loves a whole.

The song that plays inside my mind can only run its course in time;
a tune that’s old and chords are worn and cold
But the melody and all its notes have all reflected you the most
and made this song of blues and words retold.

The harmony this song has played has made a hell of better days
reflecting all the lies that were untold.
Now living with this melody has changed the world and all I see
and made a dirge of all for me to hold.

The stranger you became to me has changed the friend I thought you’d be
and blackened melodies are all I find
You make me wish for days gone past to heal this pain inside at last
and free me from this darkness in my mind.

So tired of those melodies and what they hold in store for me.
I tear them from my heart and try to find
A promise for new memories to fill my life with songs that free
My heart to want to dance and sing again.
