Beautiful Blue Butterfly
Vasudev May 2018
On a warm, midsummers night
A weary soul, beneath a tired sky
Perchance, perhaps a tinge of irony
I come across a beautiful blue butterfly

Her smile, an embrace of a song
Melodies of violins on a rainy afternoon
Pure like a sparkling mountain brook
Precious like diamond dewdrops under a silver moon

Gentle touches, etched in memory forever
Soft as whispers, sharp as knives
And velvet caresses which lighten
The pains of a thousand lives

Sighing with simple sadness
Were those limpid brown eyes
Which bravely fights the world, in them
I see, a fierce spark resides

Aching with a yearning so deep
To see those eyes sparkle, that smile linger
But time flies, like a magical dream
Quaint and elusive, ever slipping through fingers

And the summer breeze dies out slowly
While I tremble and tumble, swoon and sway
After you, you beautiful blue butterfly
Who took my heart away!

And as times will come and times go by
Can’t help but wonder, I
On sleepless nights with breathless sighs
Solemn solitary walks, with cicadas cries
Did you ever care, ever realise?
Or was I a fool to fantasize?
Hoping for a blossom of love in those eyes
You beautiful blue butterfly.

If a rose could cry
Vasudev Sep 2014
I found a rose in my hand
But, her sight was prettier than the rose
But, as she fluttered by, time froze
So, for another day, I kept it close

I had a rose in my hand
But, our eyes didn’t meet; it started raining
But, for a shelter, she went inside running
And, we, silhouettes in a way, were left remaining

I took a rose in my hand
But, the bell rang too long, yet I waited to see
But, a little angel opened and oh so shy was she
And as she ran inside, I left; the rose still with me

I lay silent, a rose in my hand
But, no words those forsaken lips could say
But, my old, red heart hadn’t turned grey
And those perfumed petals didn’t wilt away

How to say Goodbye.
Vasudev Mar 2014
I’ll miss the way you always smile
A smile which makes my day
I’ll miss your lovely, beautiful voice
And the wit you used to display

I’ll miss your falling asleep in class
And the way you wear your hair
I’ll miss, you playing Table Tennis
And at the gate, finding you there

I’ll miss your love of books
And that gleam in your bespectacled eyes
I’ll miss your silly, funny impressions
Power-packed punch in a tiny puny size!

I’ll miss how you softly hum songs sometimes
And working on the group projects together
I’ll miss that great, courageous heart of yours
And may it remain like that forever

I’ll miss being the last person you’d want to talk to
And how you used to bluntly ignore
I’ll miss this piercing, cold side of yours
And I’ll miss the times a year before

I’ll miss that you had never cared
And the fact that you still don’t do
But most of all I’ll miss the little spark of hope
That, if ever,
Ever at all,
I could be with you.

Rainy Insomnia
Vasudev Dec 2013
It’s two in the morning
I am yet to sleep
The sky flashes, restless
The clouds roar, everything weeps.

I shiver, but I'm excited
And I really don't know why
Music, mysterious jazz
Grayscale. Moonlight. Sigh.

What dreams will I see tonight?
And I dream awake
In this new, dark world
My senses alight, mind a lucid lake.

Like standing on a cliff with the wind in my hair
Fleets of sprinting clouds, distant roaring sea in my ear
I look forward to the morning tomorrow
But it’s the uncertain present I fear.

The Light of my Life
Vasudev Aug 2013
You are the first ray of the sun
Countless stars, you are the brightest one
You showed me heaven
You are the light of my life.

You are my sunrise
The oil as the flame dies
The place where my heart lies
You are the light of my life.

You glow up my pathway
You are the sun of my day
Can’t help being blinded away
You are the light of my life.

You are the warmth of fire in the cold
And the embers stop me turning old
May forever, each other we hold
You are the light of my life.

Your radiance guides me to what is right
Incomparable, your glorious sight
You are the life of my light
And,
The light of my life.

The Mountain Wind
Vasudev Aug 2013
Like a bullet from a gun,
Across the evening sun,
Along each tired eye,
Silent and swift,
Or sometimes adrift
The mountain wind goes by.

Through the sleepy valleys,
And the village alleys,
Seeing the last man heave a sigh,
Breaking the silence,
With the dark alliance,
The mountain wind goes by.

Through the maze of pine,
Tiredness not its sign,
Witnessing the jackal’s cry,
Sometimes pleasant,
Sometimes turbulent,
The mountain wind goes by.

Along the golden rays,
With nature telling its ways,
And hearing the breakfast fry,
On the faces of the folk,
Like ice in a cloak,
The mountain wind goes by.

It was my night in the hills,
(And still remembering the midday stills),
To again taste the essence of it, I try,
To again feel the freshness,
To again savour the innocence,
As the mountain wind went by.

Wishful Days
Vasudev Aug 2013
Eyes,
Desperate to meet
But when they do, are swiftly averted
It’s as if time has stopped
And the world’s staring at them.

Now,
Rose red and oblivious
Hearty spring in each calculated step
Hoping to bring to life
That planned chance encounter.

A word,
To speak is Herculean
Trembling like stars on a moonless night
And a strained parting
Leaves behind souls incomplete.

The night,
Will be long and sleepless
Eternity measured in a matter of hours
Though tomorrow is new, it’ll be
Exhilaration and heartbreak all over again.
