She trudged through the mud that filled the home inside her mind with a dark dampness that would never leave
The ground never seemed to clear or dry
Always hard to maintain a walking pace that would please this world
Too slow!
Too fast!
Too hard!
Too soft!
All of her failures sprouting tears that would fill her mind like a dark wet muddy tunnel
Impossible to navigate
Her mind weighed too heavy for a child so young
She had lost her gumboots
Forced to walk barefoot alone
From above the tunnel she hears them yell
Just do better!
Try harder!
So she tries with all her might to push through the mud,
To push through the fear and the pain
But the sadness fills the tunnel with silent tears and the water begins to rise
He screams for help go unheard
There is no one there to hear her cries
Then she hears the rumble
It's a deafening echo
She knows this sound well
She starts to run
With burning legs she keeps on running
Alone barefoot in the dark she runs
She runs and she runs
She is used to this, everyday she runs
Running from the judgement
Running from herself
Being chased by the echo
When she finally does emerge she is wet and cold, she has been broken into pieces,
she knows she doesn't fit in this world, she never did.
There is no glue to fix her brokenness
No blanket that can warm her soul
Everyday she keeps on running with her sad broken mind chased by that familiar rumble
Like thunder only she can hear
Trying to outrun it
But she never can
The noise consumes her
That deafening sound of being alone
