He yells and he screams,
on your local street corner
You've seen him no doubt
He is every towns outcast
He's not the first or the last.
He's known to be charming
When he wants to be
But also a hand full
Because a drinker is he
His head full of demons.
They won't let him be
They haunt and torment him,
with a kind of sick glee
But I love him dearly
He's my only true love
No matter the consequences
And if push comes to shove
I'll hang on for dear life,
to this kind hearted man
I'll hold him when he screams
Hold him as tight as I can.
The words they are few
You're barely speaking my name
But then when you do,
it's to belittle and shame
Now everything is fair game.
I wish you the best
As you set out on your own
The world calls to you
How much you have grown
There may be some days
When you feel you need me
I'll still be around
To your troubles I'll see
I've always known
You were going places
From saving your pennies
To tying your shoelaces
Now you're an adult
But to me you'll always be
The inquisitive child
A reflection of me.
A sob steals my breath
Like I'm in the last stages
In the throes of death
The years run and leap
Age fights, but in it does creep
Youth, hold on and keep
Your sense of humor
Has me roaring with laughter
But your funny side
Comes from a place of great pain
An outlet that keeps you sane.
