Geof Spavins Nov 2024
Heavy eyes,
                      The night's embrace,
Waning strength,
                      A slowing pace.
Dreams call softly,
                     “Pull me near,”
Exhaustion whispers,
                      "Rest is here."
Geof Spavins Nov 2024
Each dawn's light brings a humble prayer to rise,
Three hundred sixty-five, my soul's delight.
In whispers soft, I seek the heavenly skies,
And call His name, my faith to reignite.

At dusk when shadows gently claim the day,
I find His grace within the twilight's glow.
In every beat, my heart does earnestly pray,
For Jesus' love, the sweetest gift I know.

Through trials faced and joys that brightly gleam,
His name I speak with reverence and peace.
In every moment, waking or in dream,
I find my solace, and my doubts release.

For every day, I humbly bow and seek,
The name of Jesus, comfort to the meek.
Church has a prayer evening tonight -- This is my first attempt at a sonnet

In the warmth of the evening, where faith lights our way,
Men gather together, in fellowship we stay.
With spices and stories, our spirits ignite,
In this circle of brothers, we find God’s light.

From mild to fiery, the dishes we share,
Each bite a reminder of God’s loving care.
With naan in our hands and joy in our hearts,
We savour His blessings, each one a fine art.

Conversations flow like the finest of wine,
Sharing our journeys, His love so divine.
In the warmth of the curry, our faith deeply grows,
A bond that’s as strong as the grace He bestows.

So, here’s to the evenings of curry and cheer,
To the friendships we cherish, with God ever near.
May our nights be as spicy, our laughter as sweet,
As the love that we share and the Saviour we greet.
I have written this for a men's night out later this week - 2

If you had three wishes
Tell me what they would be.
A fancy car, a new guitar,
Or that money grows on trees

If I had three wishes
I tell you what they would be.
If I had three wishes
You would be all three.

Do you know how the rules go?
You cannot wish for world peace.
Or wish for love from anyone.
And with any an old friend be

You cannot wish for more wishes,
That does not bother me.
'Cos if I had three wishes,
You would be all three.

I could say "I want to fly,"
But that would get old after a while.
A million things that I could do
But they would be nothing without you.
So, I cannot think of anything....

If you had three wishes
Do you know what they would be,
Would one be saved for a rainy day?
Or for someone more in need.

If I had three wishes
I tell you what they'd be.
If I had three wishes
You would be all three!
I was going through my online files and I found this from 2011 - I forgot I even wrote it - Think I wanted to get into song lyrics with this

It's a long time without you, my friend,
The days stretch, they never end.
In every shadow, I see your face,
In every silence, I feel your grace.

The stars whisper your name,
The winds change, never the same.
Through every season,
Through night and day,
Your memory lingers,
It won't fade away.

The world keeps spinning and here I stand,
Stretching out for your guiding hand.
Though time moves on, and paths bend,
It's been a long time without you, my friend.

Jovial zebras quickly vex the bright wizard,
Xylophones and quizzical jigs delight the bard.
Frogs jump over lazy dogs in the moonlight,
While quirky knights guard the ancient site.

Vivid dreams of exotic lands fill the night,
Glimpses of unicorns in the twilight.
Bold explorers venture into the unknown,
With zest and zeal, their courage shown.

Magical realms where dragons fly high,
Echoes of laughter as time passes by.
In this wondrous world, all letters unite,
Creating a symphony, a beautiful sight.

In the halls of power, his voice was strong,
A champion for justice, where he belonged.
John Prescott, a man of grit and grace,
With a heart that beat for the working class’s place.

From the docks of Hull to Westminster’s might,
He fought for the people, their day and their night.
A trade unionist with a fiery soul,
In the Labour Party, he played a vital role.

Deputy Prime Minister, a title he bore,
But it was the people’s struggles he always swore.
To lift them up, to give them a voice,
In every decision, he made the right choice.

He stood for the environment, for a world that’s green,
Negotiated Kyoto, a future unseen.
Though controversies marked his path,
His dedication never felt the wrath.

A punch for justice, a moment of fame,
Yet his legacy is more than a name.
He bridged the old with the new,
A leader, a fighter, through and through.

Now he rests, his battles done,
In the hearts of many, his spirit lives on.
John Prescott, a beacon of light,
In the annals of history, forever bright.
