There is a ball of fur
upon my lap
that likes to purr
every single day

There is an old 4 wheeler
the color of a rusty gray
he goes down my road
every single day

The 4 wheeler went by
early this morning
now my lap is empty
every single day

The trees and the wind got into a fight
They blew everything down
That hopeless night
That the rainforest would fall

The wind began to argue
And the trees began to fight
They drew an audience
And the frogs stared in fright

The trees losed their strength
But alas the wind does not
And soon the trees are down
And the wind has the trees caught

The trees bowed down there branches
As they called out for there life
But they wind only answered
With a flash of her lethal knife.

The wind laughed in triumph
As she surveyed the scene
And collapsed in her pain
For without the trees
there'd be no wind

Sunlight
IRV Nov 2020
“How do you grow tall in the sky?”
I asked the trees one night
“Through the morning sun”
Was their genius reply.

“How do you survive ?“
I asked the painted turtle
“I bask in the sun
Thank god I’m not nocturnal”

“What would we do”
I asked myself that night
“Without are beautiful sun
To keep things warm at light”

The Book Doctor
IRV Nov 2020
I lay the book down
So fragile
I get to work on my patient right away
and begin the operation

I cut open the spine
and remove the cover
I add new glue
and redo the stitches

I let it dry
now it is all done
and ready to be devoured
and read

The little black speck
IRV Nov 2020
I had an itch
in my eye
it hurt a lot
I will not lie

I looked in the mirror
and then I saw
a little black speck
upon my eye ball

My baby Snapping Turtle
IRV Nov 2020
I found a baby snapping turtle
by the muskrats pond

He fit in the palm of my hand
not inch more long

I set him back on the ground
and when he crawled away

I felt the tears upon my eyes
I had wanted him to stay

The ravens black
IRV Nov 2020
I used to lay down on my back
and watch them fly
their feathers black

If I were up there I would think
Id be a raven among the crows
Thats what I thought
as I watched them shrink

I laid there on the ground
when I heard a twitch among the grass
he had landed right next to me
and sang me a song

He sang me a song
or at least that's what I thought
when he attacked
his feathers black

He pecked a hole
right in my eyes
and left me screaming
bye and bye

I will never again be able to
lay on my back
and watch them fly

the ravens
with there feathers black

Did you see my ship embark
from the old mans bay
Her mast was sharp
her dock was clean
we thought she'd sail all the way

Did you see the moon last night
shining over me
I thought she'd keep me safe that night
while I was over sea.

Did you see the iceberg
that I so failed to see
she cut the ship so clean in half
I saw it when I went under

Did you see me call for help
when no one decided to answer
my throat was still horse from calling
when the water engulfed me

Did you see her come back
the titanic
from her maiden voyage

I did't think so
for I did't either

The mountain
IRV Nov 2020
A little bird once told me,
that I should go and see,
The old majestic mountains
By Nashville Tennessee

I hear the sights are great there
If you take the time to look
At the beauty of the mountain
With it’s rapid streaming brook

So take me to the mountain
So that I may go and hear
The birds, the trees, the lovely bees
Ill go back every year
