Refugees

Refugees

We are all here now
Refugees from cities
Not so different from others
Seeking peace
We have returned
To where we went to camp
Or spent summers with families
We remembered
That this was the safe place
Where even the towns
Smell like forests
Of course they do
We are surrounded by mountains

Better Now

Better Now

In an earlier time
Perhaps when this old house
Was new
I would have taken to my bed
To wait it out
A luxury not offered
So I lived through my own set of horrors
To emerge,
Hatch, if you will
On the other side
Slightly wobbly
Slightly damaged
But here

To those who might say
I was already fine
I say
It only looked that way

Crying for My Country

Crying for My Country

Her blood is on his hands
I broke my rule about
Not watching TV news
How uplifting to see
Brave Senators return
To the business at hand
After harrowing hours
Instead of seeking
The comfort of their homes
Now for the healing
I hope
