Bent elbows

Shrill voices

And feet

Lapping up

The concrete

After Robert Johnson
ramon mojica Nov 2020
Each day that passes me by
Is another nail in my coffin
The nights find me
At the crossroads

And is a street like
Any other I guess
You can find the latest fashions
Pinned neatly on the mannequins

They say the devil
Walks these streets
They say his memory is long
And unforgiving

They say there is nothing
To distinguish him
From other men
That is until is too late

This year

This year I’m going to build a fence
Roll it far and wide
Hemming in the trees

Skirting stone and dog
And where the ground rises

Going up to meet it

Bright lights
ramon mojica Nov 2020
Bright lights all around me
Burning holes in my head
Sometimes it seems like this city
Is mad as birds

I called my baby this morning
Asking to come home
But she said they’ll be hell to pay
If I set one foot inside her door

So I went out this evening
Thought I’ll get a breath of fresh air
Thought that’ll be the best way
To put some space between me and her

But the people that lined the streets
Were wrapped in each other’s arms
And when I looked over the roofs
The stars
