When we were young
Out of focus Nov 2019
We’d look up at the stars
whispering our dreams
I’d lay in your arms
while your lips spoke sweet lies
You’d call me your angel
As you hugged me
and left that cigarette smell in my clothes
you’d take pictures of us
and frame them
you’d grab the bottle and drink the pain away
you’d become numb
start talking
saying we could go back to who we were
You’d grab my hand
promising you’d leave the danger behind
I’d wake up and you would be gone
but every night I would wait for you
For those sweet lips that only spoke beautiful lies.

Once we were lovers
Out of focus Nov 2019
The day I saw you again we were strangers
We started walking our separate ways
Yet we couldn’t help but stop and stare
We waited
hoping we’d recognize each other
It hadn’t been that long
since our last goodbye
it should have been easy
to hug you, to kiss you
yet I stood in the pavement
unable to move
you looked into my eyes
searching for a reminder of our youth
your eyes filled up with tears
when you looked away
you wiped them off
you kept on walking
you left me there
I knew I had lost you forever
