It’s the secrets
That are the
Life changers
No one tries to hide
Things that don’t move
No one tries to cover things
That always look the same
It’s the secrets that
Fold us into little shapes
Bend us into palm sized pieces
Of origami
Then open us back up
Until we are full of creases that
weren’t there before
It’s the secrets that
Cut us full of little holes
That pull apart our edges
Until we are
A string of paper snowflakes
Hanging in the window
Letting the light shine through the
Empty parts of us
The secrets change our composition
They melt us down until
We are liquid
And then pour us through
The cracks
In our story

Keep me in your clutches please
I have to say
I like it here
All wrapped up tightly
In your silence
And choking on the way
It feels to love you
Hold me underneath you please
I have to say
It’s warm here
You cover me until I melt
Then burn away all the bits of me
I try to save.
Push me off this cliff please
I have to say
The air feels nice up here
It’s a long way down
But a quick way out
Save me if you dare please
I have to say
I think you could catch me
So hold me tighter than
I hold you
Squeeze all the air from my lungs
So I never have the breath
To say
I’m leaving.

We all have an agenda
An ulterior motive
That will give us
What we want
But
Not what we need
We all have a backstory
A path that took a detour
A wrong turn
A deviation
And here we are.
And
How many chances
Do we get
To find our way
Can we send up a flare
To say
Here I am
Please save me from
My own mistakes
Lift me up
And pull me out
I’m lost inside the choices
I have made
