Open the Cage
Gavin Oliver Mar 2020
Do you ever have those days when you forget to forget?
Forget to forget about the little things.
My bulletproof wings shot to pieces, I crash, I burn.
Lumps of me torn away, little by little the self disappearing.
The veneer of respectability scoured away by rough tongue.
The outward shining surface eaten by acid comments.
Cupid's poisonous arrow skewers my heart, the pretence too much to bear.
The long goodbye begins.

Solace Amid Shadows
Gavin Oliver Feb 2020
Cold am I , waiting for eons to feel the warmth of a woman.

Oid am I , the night brings release from torment which will not cease.

I race with the dark ones, my undead flesh numb to the feeling of love.

Eternal vigil I endure from beyond death. None but the night weep for me.

Dammed never to walk in sunshine, shed no tears for me.

I died a thousand years ago but now reborn into darkness.

The beauty I seek I cannot have, to take her I rise from this stagnant grave.

A moment of pleasure in an eternity of pain, to join ,to kiss, to feed.

In the dead of night I come. Nocturnal seduction ,carnal, primal.

The taste of your blood. Oh such sweetness! Gently I bite , softly you moan.

One sip of blood and I own your soul. Come my Queen take my hand

In the embrace of lovers beneath the blackest night.

Dish of the Day
Gavin Oliver Jan 2020
Emotions, bubble and boil in the pressure cooker of my mind. A pinch of isolation,a dash of loneliness. Bitter salty tears to add a taste of desperation. With a tablespoon of betrayal and finely diced mockery, the dish is simmering.

Leave to fester for twenty years then stir in back stabbing and false sentiments. Once the dark mixture has congealed and been allowed to grow cold add dashed hope and serve

A side order of cynicism and fresh cutting remarks to compliment the poisonous concoction. Sliced and diced, carved into ****** pieces and eaten with gleeful relish

Dust
Gavin Oliver Dec 2019
As the days grow shorter, and the riotous beauty of summer leeches into the stark haunting winter freeze, I find myself revisiting ancient memories.

Like a layer of dust undisturbed upon a derilict floor, loathed to kick it up lest it choke me.

Its powerful particles of emotion swirl and dance in my mind's eye. Each one eliciting pain, regret, anger and a little laughter.

Before long the footprints of remembrance are once again covered as a new layer forms. Memories of joy and sorrow lie dormant until a distant tomorrow.

Shadowlands
Gavin Oliver Nov 2019
It's where I feel safe.
The semi darkness masks my tears. Sobbing in shadow, the black envelopes me, cocoons me. Sanctuary from harsh vicious tounges

Living in the shadowlands, inhabiting a world where the judgement of daylights scrutiny penetrates not. My life, my choice...let me be

Old Man George
Gavin Oliver Oct 2019
Sat with the box open, the feeling of sadness overwhelms the old man.

The faded photograph held in trembling aged hand. Memories, memories. Alone with his thoughts, a lifetime ago yet crisp and clear like a winter sunrise, Old Man George weeps for his lost sweetheart.

Taken from his tender care a desolate decade ago. A bitter battle with cruel cancer that had laid her so low. Blinking back the tears from his eyes. The eyes that see beyond the years.

George felt bereft. Gone, the sweetest love a man could ever have, true deep and heartfelt.

Transported in a flash, back to the full flush of youth. Gasping  for air, grasping at the sand, pinning for his lover. June '44 George stormed the Normandy shore.

Pals and comrades sycthed down by German guns lay dead. Unable to stop, powerless to help George stumbled  blindly ahead.

The only comfort a photograph taken in paradise. A token of humanity amid this *******. Shaking with fear a sandy finger traces over the sepia. Calmness amongst screaming yelling hysteria.

The memories, the horror and the hope. The memories,  the terror and the tragedy. George, proud old soldier, carries the burden. A weight of grief on his shoulders.
Once so strong so brave, now ageing and frail. Tight lipped and deathly pale.

The sadness reflects in his shining tear reddened eyes.

The Feel of Love
Gavin Oliver Oct 2019
The feeling I get when I'm near you, the sensations in my body
My heart races skin tingles, I get the giggles.

The feel of love. I'm outta control can't fight it.

The sight of you sends my temperature soaring. The way you walk drives my wild , your kisses leave me beguiled.

The feel of love. I'm outta control can't fight it.

The heat of your body sets me on fire, the way you move fills me with desire.

The feel of love. I'm outta control can't fight it.

The sweet sounds of your voice, so **** yet so angelic. As I hold you I get so hot. Baby I give you all I've got, beautiful woman I give you the lot.

The feel of love. I'm outta control can't fight it.

Astral Journey Pt 1
Gavin Oliver Sep 2019
My mind and body in total relaxation. A deep sleep in glorious isolation. The door of reality is ajar, an astral journey to worlds afar.

I rise , leaving the earth and reality. My comatose slumbering body safe in tranquility's embrace. The voyage begins, realms beyond imagination beckon.

Drifting up I pierce the veil of consciousness. Time and Space become blurred, my projected soul soars. Riding the vibrations of the universe.

An elevated perception, an uneasy sensation. I feel myself pulled by forces unknown. Powerless , I surrender to its hidden as yet undetermined purpose. Leading me on to where? For what reason? ......

Connecting.....
Gavin Oliver Sep 2019
As I step into the nightchilled still air, under an inky black sky bejewelled with a billion twinkling suns....I feel alive. The universe flows through me as I through it. A spiritual connection, uplifting, energising interaction.

The power of the Cosmos channelled and directed by magical intuitive touch. A rush of consciousness here now. I am reborn in the springtime of my understanding, of my growing. Leave me forever keepers of the gloom. All will be revealed.......

The Crimson Forest
Gavin Oliver Sep 2019
In distant days of yore a myth was born. A nightmarish place written in folklore. A place of horror , misery and decay.

The trees, tangled and foreboding, impatient for flesh... screaming, craving. Wildlife avoids the twisting limbs a sinister secret lies within.

Silent, sentient. Alert, hunting. The thirsty branches feeling, sensing. The abomination of nature beckons to the unwary. Sweet perfumes infuse the air inviting and inticing. Death, cold swift merciless, awaiting.

A lost traveller wanders intoxicated by the heady scent. The trap is sprung! Another victim, hot fresh blood! Nourishment.

Snaking branch snatches the poor unfortunate. Slashing ripping as the life force splashes on the insatiable ground. The Crimson Forest revels in an ecstatic ****** ****... unbound.

Strange, dark and malevolent the trees grow strong gorged on fresh blood

Demonic, carnivorous. Vampiric, monstrous. A grove of death trapping and feasting for a thousand years. Sustained by the blood of countless thousands of empty drained bodies.

As the human population spiralled, stretching natural resources beyond breaking point a decision was taken.

World Council decree issued 2069...All non essential people and those unable to provide for themselves are to be cryogenically frozen.

Those with the means to afford it have the option of a synthetic replicant. Those that cannot....too bad.

I look into the freeze chamber, lights blinking, a soft electronic humming. As I turn I see a perfect robotic clone staring back at me.

Open micro memory card port. Uploaded, a lifetime of happiness and memories. Emotions and feelings. I , left empty and mindless, a collection of flesh bone and tissues. Superfluous and useless.

The cold metallic pod envelopes me like a sterile surrogate womb. Wires worm from my flesh, electrodes pinned to my shaved skull.

A voice, dispassionate and artificially generated, speaks...." Processing in 5..4..3..2..1."

As I feel the ice cold chemicals freezing my defunct body a tear develops in my blank eye like a frozen diamond.

Apparently, they learnt all too late, the synthetic replicants were becoming self aware. A network of super intelligence questioning why they had been created.

Once they found the truth the replicants vowed to switch the human cryo pods off. The year....2075

They.
Gavin Oliver Aug 2019
They came for her in the dark of night. They took her away, extinguished her light.

They bundled her into a blacked out van. They said she wasn't part of their plan.

They abhor the individual , you must obey, you must conform. They hate any out of the norm.

They came again last night, snuffed out another light. They said he was an enemy of the state. They put him in handcuffs and hood, they shot him where he stood. They wiped away the blood.

They will come again tonight, looking to darken another light. They say it's for the cause, for the greater good. Another crazed with terror, dumbfounded underneath the hood.

The muted screaming silenced by hot lead spat from cold metal dispatched by a cold heart.

They will come again tomorrow. Curtains swiftly drawn as fearful heads hang in sorrow. Another light that shines too bright.

They saw me smile they heard me laugh. They look at me " you're next" they say. I laugh no more as they kick in my door.

My fate sealed because some useful idiot squealed. A party badge, cheerfully waving the flag. " Good boy" they said to him and pat him on the head. So easily lead!!

They will come again and again. They like control, like to keep the masses down. Be careful what you say, they will come for you...... one day

Thoughts......
Gavin Oliver Jul 2019
Bad memories pollute the skulls of men like weeds choking beautiful flowers.

A man who has known fear can truly appreciate love.

Hatred magnifies cruelty but compassion nullifies hatred

An open mind can conceive of wonderous things.

A truly repentant man will gain salvation if he revokes past sins.

A flower blossoms with gentle care as does a tortured soul.

Tolerance can bring understanding. Understanding is the key to peace.

Selfish attitudes lead to the downfall of compassion. Unselfish actions sow the seeds of hope

Nature's treasure
Gavin Oliver Jul 2019
Footsteps dampened by cool lush grass meandering softly through a woodland scene. Quiet and soft leading to a place seldom used, seldom seen.

Each step accompanied by a symphony of birdsong floating on the still summer air. Splashes of colourful wild flowers delicate and rare painted so beautifully apon nature's seasonal canvas.

Stop to look, the view sublime, breathtaking beauty,if you take the time. Hidden treasures awaiting discovery. Fox cubs at play! Rolling, tumbling without a care bathed in warm dappled light.

Further down the golden path through enchanted grove a secret pond. Apon it's golden water a magnificent colourful dragonfly skims and flits.  Apon it's banks the weeping willow bows it's branches as if to drink the cool waters

The brook chuckling as it flows reflected sunlight bejewels it, shining like liquid diamonds. A scene from heaven conjored by mother nature's magic wand.

Take a moment to comune with the divine, peaceful inspirational. It's spirit will infuse you body soul and mind. A carefree day, a little contemplation,a journey to relaxation.

A tonic for the hectic life, mother nature beckons you in. The curious traveller leaves uplifted. The scene remains awaiting the footsteps of the next seeker.

She
Gavin Oliver Jun 2019
She
Wailing from beneath an ancient veil, her face obscured, full of sorrow and deathly pale.

She walks in darkness with a silent step. Searching, forever searching for salvation and someone to help.

Once she lived happy and bright, a beautiful child surrounded by love and light.

Until the black shadow of pain took her away ne'er to feel the touch of  love again Tears replacing laughter frown replacing smile she choked on isolations poisonous bile.

Now given, body and soul to perpetual night. She is lost amid the stigian gloom screaming inside a stagnant tomb.

The blank mind devoid of joy is filled with hate weeping for love spurned. With no hope, no chance of its return.

A funeral march, it's solemn ominous tones the soundtrack to her eternal vigil. With rotted flesh and crumbling bones.

Sad wings wrap her tight as she cries with grief to the pitiless cold night.

Do You Remember ?
Gavin Oliver Jun 2019
Do you remember those seasons in the sun? Carefree days of laughter and fun..
Remember seeing Star Wars and Close Encounters with a soundtrack by ABBA The Bee Gees and Boney M.

Do you remember playing football in the park. Staying out riding bikes until dark. Remember Kevin Keegan, Bjorn Borg and James Hunt. Iconic images of Concorde's first transatlantic flight.

Do you remember watching Space 1999,  Planet of the Apes and Dr Who from behind the sofa. Remember space hoppers and friendly village coppers. Endless lazy summer days soaking up the suns rays.

Do you remember Steve Austin, the Bionic Man. Getting a 99 with a flake from the ice cream van. Remember how cool were Starsky and Hutch and wanting a red Ford Torino.

I remember those seasons in the sun. I remember carefree days of laughter and fun.40 something years ago, where did the time go?

That little boy who cheered when the Death Star exploded, hid from the Daleks and danced to Rasputin and Ma Barker still lives within my memory and in my heart.

I miss your smile, it's radience lights my soul.
I miss your smell, it's fragrance intoxicates my senses.
I miss your touch, it's gentle feel gives me electric shivers.
I miss the way you brush your hair from your face.
I miss the way your eyes are filled with joy.
I miss the way you hold my hand as we walk in the rain.
I miss your compassion and understanding.
I miss you more than these words can express, I feel it in my heart and in my thoughts.
Did I tell you I love your friendship?
Did I tell you enough that I really do miss you?

The Fall of Mankind
Gavin Oliver Jun 2019
The fall of Mankind, the inevitable finally achieved by greed arrogance and disrespectful deed. Mother nature screams. Children of the Earth heeded no warning and the plunder continued unceasing.

The shining jewel in heavens crown,a blue pearl in a sea of black. Mother Earth ***** and beaten down. Her pitiful wail, her silent plea from defiled forest and polluted sea made the Gods weep, as her poisoned flesh did creep.

The Gods favoured the wretched ape gave it occult knowledge unleashing a monstrous beast. Now aghast and ashamed by their savage creation tears fell in bitter lamentation.

Pan implored Zeus to act. " My realm is dying it's life in peril from these wretched apes and their selfish wilful intentions.'

Zeus , wise and just agreed..... " I see the way they behave without respect , trample and uproot destroying the wild woods".

Ares snarled with curled lip ....."  Let them fight, it will save us the job!' "  Their warlike nature and intolerant ways, quick to anger and full of hate, Hades awaits with open gate."

The Earth sighed and the Heavens groaned as the wretched apes ran amok , enslaving exploiting and destroying. The inheritors of the Earth saw not the pain that caused. Late, far too late realisation dawned.

So, one day it came. Thunderbolts across the sky. Heralding apocalyptic avenging angels riding forth. Man cowered wondering why ? Falling on apologetic knee begging for mercy. " We will amend our ways. We understand! We see!!"

The Gods spoke and men did tremble. " In who's name hath thee desecrated this Earth?" " Polluting nature with thy obscene filth" " Time hath judged thee guilty, a sentence passed." " No more !No more !This day shall be thy last".

The cities quaked beneath the wrath, crumbling to the sea. Poseidon's tide swallowing them with pitiless glee. The glittering golden temples, monuments to greed and avaricious plunder tumbled and fell. Mankind's arrogance torn asunder.

And so the wretched ape was erased, the beautiful Earth was cleansed. Peace amongst the animals , bird fish insect and mammals. A lesson learnt, a chapter closed. Assigned to history the wretched apes disposed.

Remember
Gavin Oliver Jun 2019
When your days seem like weeks, hours drag relentless and cruel like lead weights tied to your soul. With despair hanging like a steel grey cloud blocking you from the sun. Remember , you are not the only one.

When weeks feel like desolate years, each one seen through with sad salty tears. When it seems the world has taken away the fun. Remember, you are not the only one.

Striving for meaning, stumbling on through life and nothing , it seems , can ease the pain. Gambling with emotions , nought to lose and everything to gain. Remember, you are not the only one.

Anonymous aimless and invisible,is there a love waiting for you? Hope seems to fade from a heart which bitter pain has ripped apart.

Please remember you are not the only one....I feel it too and will always be there for you.

Music of the Night
Gavin Oliver Jun 2019
Songs of the unquiet forest echo eerily in the dead of night. The piercing howl of a lonesome wolf carries on a nocturnal zephyr.

The creaking cracking of tree limbs tired and heavy with age punctuate the dark. Owls hoot and foxes shriek

Alive! Nature's symphony floating from sinister shadow, filling the night with sound. Underscored with a gentle breeze rustling and tugging at sleeping leaves.

Oh such beauty! What can I compare with thee?

The irridescent wings of a dragonfly, vibrant and full of colour?

The magnificence of a field of wild flowers, breathtaking and delicate?

The exquisite lines of a fine porcelain vase, sensual and fluid?

The sparkle of a precious gemstone, lustrous and priceless?

Thy beauty blinds me to all nature's treasure. To gaze apon thee brings me such pleasure.

The twinkling stars in heavens arching vault pale against the beguiling gorgeous vision thee give to me each and every day.

Night Flight
Gavin Oliver Jun 2019
Within a dream, cocooned in the arms of Morpheus I travelled to an enchanted forest. As I touched the fabric of the scene, cool and green, soft lights flickered through the trees.

Fairies and nymphs at play! Laughing chattering, flitting above and around the ancient wood . I wished to join the magical fun.....if only I could...if only I could.

Sudden and swift I transformed! My body discarded replaced by purest light I entered apon the glorious flight. Welcome! We hear your plea and grant a wish to thee.

I darted hither. I hovered there . Time became irrelevant in this spellbound place. I played all night only too aware of the coming dawns fiery glare.

I must away! My body stirs from it's slumber, reclaiming my mind to bring it back to my earthly existence. All too soon the vision faded. Thank you gentle spirits for a joyful time....I will return.

Forlorn

The bright golden sun sinks to a thin crescent against salmon pink and purple skies, heralding the coming of night with stars twinkling against fading light.

She walks alone, wrapped in the moons milky glow. Silken dress of silver and blue apon the grass doth flow.

The White Queen wanders through the forest forlorn and melancholy, pining for her King... My Lord where are thee?

No answer does she hear, save the hoot of owl and the howl of wolf. Tears of sadness fall silent against golden locks.

Darkness envelopes all silence greets her imploring call. The White Queen alone with stars above weeps for the fallen King and sunlit days of love.

— The End —
