I would in that sweet ***** be
In sprigs of watercress,
Buzzing the cobbles and the sea
Far from the rain's duress.

If not secure, I'd swoop and dive
And search for salty stones
To lick sweet morsels all contrived
In briny ocean bones.

Instead, I'm thought of as a pest
And squashed 'neath palms with glee.
Jilted by life, like all the rest
The insects by the sea.

Lay me rest in groves of alder
Loose of breath and free of pain,
Pierced by love akin to Balder
Ne'er to see the sky again.

Put me down in fields of heather
Crystal cobalt clouds above,
Age has wrinkled skin to leather
I have lived a life of love.

Know that time's tendrils will slither.
Much like me, your time is nigh.
Wisdom gained in life can't wither
Memories will never die.
