The “Bliss-ard” of the Season

Like crystalline stars falling from the sky
Nestling us in a white blanket so lofty and high
The most magnificent snowfall of the season
Comes on January 23rd for a special reason
Enveloping a world so perfect and bright
A wonderful welcome in morning light
A land of pure immaculate snow
Creating a magical enchanting show
Soaring green trees bow down with surrender
To the incredible power of the blizzard’s splendor
Bringing all of life to total cessation
To capture and appreciate God’s divine creation
Enjoy the beautiful snowfall of 2016
Take time away from your ordinary routine
So go out and build a snowman of your own
Or slide down a hill or mountain zone
Bundle up in your winter coat and gloves
And embrace the season with your loves!

Spring of April
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
Spring of April
As winter’s footprints fade in the past
And the tainted snow melts at last
The spring of April makes its appearance
Timidly at first, requesting its clearance
As the cherry blossoms blush demurely
And the delicate wind whispers so purely
Reminiscent melodies serenade the breeze
Scattering seeds of lilacs and daffodils with ease
Perfumed scents of roses glow
And tiny blades of green grass grow
Seasonal creatures nest with care
In the petals of peonies that fill the air
Oh sweet lovely spring, you have arrived
Uplifting our spirits which are now revived!

The Doors of Life
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
The Doors of Life

With every open door a lesson is to be learned
A ray of opportunity for a memory to be earned
Like arms extended wide as if welcoming a guest
A door that is ajar accepts everything as blessed
The doors can also teach us to face our very fears
To have wisdom and courage to last throughout the years
The doors of our lives have treasures that are veiled
To teach us faith and hope beyond trials that are failed
So keep the doors of your heart open and spacious
For life is full of miracles, a masterpiece so gracious

The World Without Us
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
The World Without Us

Maybe the world exists perfectly on its own
Without the burden of man to claim it as his throne
For who created the sky or the mountains on the Earth?
Who has sculpted the stars or gave sunlight its very birth?
How did the world prevail before our humble subsistence?
Could the rivers and oceans flow without our assistance?
Was there a noble artist who painted the night sky?
Or a brilliant choreographer who taught the birds to fly?
Perhaps the world without us was consummately splendid
And there’s more that meets the eye than can ever be comprehended
Perchance the world without us is an impeccable creation
Overflowing in harmony and poetic articulation!

The Eyes are the Windows
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
The Eyes are the Windows

The eyes are the windows to our soul
Showing the reflection of what makes us whole
The eyes are the windows to our heart
Creating an impression that takes part
The eyes are the windows to our being
Displaying the image we are seeing
The eyes are windows to our spirit
Singing melodies when we hear it
The eyes are the windows to our story
So fill them up with joy and glory!

Equestrian Efficacy
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
Equestrian Efficacy

Life is a country, spread before us at birth
Beautiful places, a representation of Earth
Over the horizon lie the mountain ranges
Tall peaks of passion, full of new changes
Between the valleys and deep wide canyons
Gallop majestic horses paired as companions
Rich, brown coats of rustic constitution
Gallantly trotting their regal attribution
In pursuit of perfection with every stride
Equestrian efficacy, beaming with pride

What’s in A Name?
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
What’s in A Name?

Until the elephant was named an Elephant
Three ton creatures never walked the Earth
Enormous mammoths never had such girth
Gray colored trunks never took birth
Big floppy ears never carried worth
Oh Mighty Elephant, thank you for walking the Earth!

Until the cow was named a Cow
No bovine ever slept standing
No being was so understanding
No animal was so upstanding
No herd was so withstanding
Oh Peaceful cow, thank you for being outstanding!

Until the peacock was named a Peacock
The art of dance was not created
The colorful palette was not decorated
The act of self-confidence was not dictated
The power of attraction was not captivated
Oh beautiful peacock, thank you for being celebrated!

Until the human was named a human
Intellectual power never took form
Kindness and empathy could never transform
Discrimination could ever conform
Loving hearts could ever be so warm
Oh illustrious human, thank you for your brainstorm

The power of a name defines humanity
Its meaningful worth goes beyond vanity
The name gives us a sense of sanity
Life without names is an inanity

Priceless Poetry
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
Priceless Poetry

Poems are not written,
They are simply born
A conception of creativity
Waiting to adorn
Poems are not penned
They flow incessantly
Like a babbling brook
Reacting effervescently
Poems are not composed
They bloom free-spiritedly
Like the sweet breath of wind
Refreshing our soul disinterestedly
Poems are not merely words
They carry deep worth
Like the love of a mother
Who has verily given birth!

Shattering Writer’s Block
As I crusade a case of writer’s block
My mind seems to oscillate
Between ideas round the clock
Each paper that I crumple into the trash
Seems to tease and taunt me
As a sarcastic backlash
I’ve lost track of the poems I written this hour
My emotions are jaded
And I’ve lost my brainpower
I cannot compose a single idea or thought
I don’t have a clue
For a theme or a plot
As desperate times call for desperate measures
I dive within anthologies
For eminent poetry treasures
I think of the great ones like Dickenson and Poe
Did they ever have trouble
To make the words flow?
How about Maya Angelou or Langston Hughes
Were they ever caught up
With writers’ blues?
Did Shakespeare or Silverstein ******* as poets
How did they ever make it through
As literary ‘know its’?
And then the light bulb of realization hits me…
Poetry does not flow from the hand or the pen
It’s insightful and enlightening
Like a doctrine of zen
So Frost and Tennyson must have known
That poetry emanates
From your very backbone
The idea of writer’s block is just a façade
A blind image of reality
That is nothing but flawed!

I Am A River
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
I Am A River

I am a river, a free flowing river
Cascading over the bend
I cool and soothe my earth
With every turn that I extend
I am river, a sparkling river
Reflecting the early sunrise
I shine and glow with brilliance
As I look up to the blue skies
I am river, a traveling river
Traversing through the meadows
I pass over mountains and valleys
As the birds fly through the shadows
I am a river, an infinite river
Blowing my gentle breeze
I caress and embrace my path
Giving sustenance as I please

Come Sail Away With Me

Boats sail on the river
Ships sail on the seas
Clouds sail across skies
Feeling the ocean breeze
Bridges unite the river
Seagulls fly over the seas
Clouds cover the skies
Flourishing the air with ease
Ripples dance over the river
Winds blow in the seas
Rainbows adorn the skies
Smiling if you please

Kaleidoscope Eyes

I look into your kaleidoscope eyes
And see such brilliant colored skies
What hues of love have you seen
To make your eyes twinkle pristine?
Have you captured the ocean blues
To emit such bright and radiant hues?
Have you absorbed the emerald greens
To sparkle such vivid scenes?
Those kaleidoscope eyes that I adore
Bring forth your smile more and more

Twelve Months of Blessings

January brings the snow that falls from the sky
A beautiful spectacle that makes our hearts sigh
February brings the cold that freezes our lakes
A shivering phenomenon that Mother Nature takes
March brings the winds as fierce as a lion
Like a tornado can reach the mountains of Zion
April brings the showers of primrose so sweet
Scattering petals of fragrant flowers at our feet
May brings flocks of birds taking flight
What an artistic and splendid delight
June brings roses, tulips, and lilies of the valley
A colorful display as a grand finale
July brings fireworks exploding with iridescence
Cheering independence of our country’s coalescence
August brings signs of ‘Back-to-school’ days
As the hot humid weather reflects the sun rays
September brings the blessings of harvest crops
With corn and pumpkins as photo backdrops
October brings the glory of Halloween décor
And each and every child wears costumes galore
November brings gratitude of a Thanksgiving feast
Where we all join hands in unity at least
December brings invocation of a Christmas treat
Giving praise for a blessed twelve months so sweet

Beautiful Buddha

Oh sacred Buddha, Embodiment of Peace,
A repository of tranquility and spiritual release
Dear Enlightened one, who has attained salvation
To your holy feet, we offer our prostration
Perfectly seated in a prayerful form
Channel your energy to make my heart transform
Waves of serenity radiate from your presence
Emanating pure love in luminescence
A symbol of beauty and utmost love
The truest representation of our Lord above
The ideal model of impeccable meditation
The ultimate Guru replete with admiration
We kneel before you with great humility
Acknowledging your dynamic and powerful divinity

Feline Philosphy

Feline Philosphy

The world around us teaches lessons
You never know who can be your guide
So open your heart and expand your mind
Lessons from a cat can be pure joy and pride

These furry felines are both loving and caring
Snuggling and purring by your side
They look for your unconditional love
Your warm affection keeps them satisfied

Cats thrive on curious, playful adventures
With their bright eyes open wide
Their silly and funny personalities
Show you love and divinity exemplified

Kittens are naturally friendly and happy
Energetic and agile in their movement
The give happiness beyond compare
Living with a cat makes days an improvement

So what can we learn from these cuddly creatures

Show the world unconditional love
Always be agile and energetic
Keep your heart adventurous
And make your life synergetic!

Beautiful Soul
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
Beautiful Soul

My soul is an endless, glorious well
A lovely place where my thoughts dwell
An abundant land where all things bloom
Where hope and faith each take room
My soul is a bright and dazzling fire
Full of effulgence to inspire
Though invisible by the naked eye
My soul has purity to beautify
Never with discriminatory thoughts
It’s free of negative or impure spots
Silent with divine ubiquity
Its entity shines with pure lucidity
My soul is verily one with God
Perfect with qualities to applaud

Vegetable-Mania

Gardens are blooming so fresh and green
Nature’s bountiful spread is a colorful scene
Delectable tastes bursting with flavor
A vegetable garden a delight to savor
Bright orange carrots packed with nutrition
Crisp green peppers in perfect condition
Broccoli and beans exploding with zest
Corn and potatoes are simply the best
A meal of vegetables stands on its own
Nothing can be healthier when it is home grown

The Flight of the Bumblebee

Buzzing through the air
With your yellow furry jackets
Zipping through flowers
Making quite a humming racket

Silky silver wings
Make your  aviation grand
Your yellow specs of dust
Pollinate our land

You’re a busy little bee
Industrious by the hour
Gathering honey all day long
From every shining flower

Skillfully you build your cell
Coating each with wax
Your work is simply tireless
When do you have time to relax?

Your patience is a virtue
Your labor is a talent
The life of a busy bumblebee
Deserves a crown of gallant!

I am the Wind
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
I am the Wind

I am the wind, so powerful and strong
I cannot be confined by anyone, lifelong
I am the wind, that howls and blows
I’m in charge of everything that runs and flows
I am the wind, that whispers in the trees
Caressing your cheeks with sweet loving ease
I am the wind, that whistles in window panes
Singing in the clouds that arouses the rains
I am the wind that air dries white sheets
Cooling off August’s relentless heats
I am the wind scattering seeds of hope
Replenishing the life on our earth’s scope
I am the wind, powerful and strong
An essential part of Mother Nature’s song

I Am Not

I am not a tall oak tree
For I have not enough patience or fortitude
I am not the endless ocean
For I have neither such depth nor magnitude
I am not a thousand splendid suns
For I have not such perseverance nor gratitude
I am not a colorful rainbow
For I have not such diverse multitude
Perhaps I am nothing but these simple poems
Consumed by my thoughts in solitude

Lessons From the Earth
(Native Poetry)

Walk through the mountain’s trail
Where your ego cannot be heard
Listen to the Earth’s heartbeat
Where the ancient wisdom is transferred
Allow the winds spirits to caress your face
And taste a freedom so new
Drink purity from nature’s waterfall
And quench your thirst so true
Gaze into a lake’s still waters
And find your natural reflection
Open your ears to hear yourself
As your test of real introspection
These are the lessons from Mother Earth
That stay with us forever
Let’s embrace them as part of life
And help us with every endeavor!

Love….A Reverse Poem
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
Love….A Reverse Poem

A moment of love is meaningless
How can you even think that
Everyone needs love
Wealth
Is more valuable than
Love
Money and power are what we really need
Don’t be deceived into thinking
Life is incomplete without love
Love may break your heart sometimes, but
Setting it free would be justifiable.
Wealth is indispensable but
People just nonchalantly let it go
Imagine a life without love
Love is difficult,
It is silly to say that
Love is the end all of life
It may sound corny but
“Only fools rush in”
A practical person would never say,
Where there is love, there is life
Love brings heartbreak and sadness
Never believe that
A moment of love is meaningful

(Now read it from Bottom to Top)

Doubting Certainly
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
Doubting Certainty

I certainly doubt that the stars in the sky
Would ever overflow into the ocean’s supply
I certainly doubt that the beams of the moon
Would ever float away with a helium balloon
I certainly doubt that rays of the sun
Would ever melt our planet’s fun
Certainty is a curious thing
Where doubts begin to subtly ring

The Gratitude of Solitude

The Gratitude of Solitude

Some say solitude is a lonely place
Where tears assemble into an empty space
And despair and dejection show their face
But solitude is a place of grace
Which we must take time to embrace
So gather your thoughts and let them replace
The chaos and confusion of life’s race

Rain On Earth

Rain on Earth

The autumn clouds are thin
Bursting forth with thunder
The sky’s liquid has fallen
Nature’s fury is a wonder

The earth’s thirst is quenched
As it soaks up the planet’s shower
The ground is finally satiated
By nature’s superpower

All of creation has revived
With these drops of precipitation
Hydrating life around us
With cool soothing exhilaration

Once Only

Once only in a lifetime
Leave such indelible impressions
These precious memories
Carry a wealth of expressions

Your very first kiss
Unforgettable by touch
The birth of your child
Monumental as such
Falling in love
A historic event
Discovering your passion
A time well spent
Your graduation day
A memorable time
Tying the knot
Happiness sublime

Once only in a lifetime
Leave such indelible impressions
These precious memories
Carry a wealth of expressions

Otherwise...
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
Otherwise...

Through the eyes of a pessimist
life may look melancholy
A blind person may view life otherwise
The tedious workload of a mother may feel exhausting,
The sad, barren woman may feel otherwise
The stressful commute of subway rider may be draining
The desperate unemployed worker may believe otherwise
The winning of a lottery may be life altering
The cancer ridden millionaire may feel otherwise
Life may seem uneventful and boring
A country facing war and violence may believe otherwise
The way of life is all in our perception
If we just imagine it to be otherwise....

The Way It Is
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
The Way it Is

The sun breaks the morning dawn
The moon illuminates the sky thereon
The stars embellish the stratosphere
As God orchestrates as the charioteer
This is the way it is...

Rivers flow with the meandering breeze
The wind sways with the dancing trees
The butterflies kiss the tops of flowers
As God gently radiates his omnipowers
This is the way it is...

The rain quenches the thirst of the earth
Plants emit oxygen that gives us birth
Everything in nature is an act of giving
As God is the epitome of selfless living
This is the way it is....

Clothed in Impermanence
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
Clothed in Impermanence

Clothed in impermanence,
we choose to live
A life of stability
Full of love to give

Our days are transient
Our thoughts are fleeting
So we infuse our moments
With our love repeating

Love for the night
And the silence therein
Love for the dawn
When the daybreak begins

Love for the candle
And the warmth it brings
Love for the breeze
That the lullaby sings

Life maybe ephemeral
This is true
But it’s still a life
Bestowed on you!

Notes to Self
Sudha Ramaswami Jan 2020
Notes to Self

Never forget who you truly are
The self within you shining bright
Unattached to anyone else
Your inner Goddess takes delight

You’re the Queen of your kingdom
Wearing confidence as your crown
You are the ruler of your world
Not allowing anyone to bring you down

Your intuitive knowledge is your strength
Guiding you through every mountain
Connecting to your spiritual being
Like a youthful, sprightly fountain

You are the epitome of feminine energy
Dancing to the beat of your own heart
You’re an ageless and timeless beauty
That surmounts the worlds apart!

You wear respect as your shining armor
And nurture with your loving touch
You shower love throughout the ages
No being can compare as such!

So go on girl, be who you are...
Brave, Beautiful, Bold, Brilliant, Beaming, Bodacious and Blissful!
