Like Horses
Hank Love Aug 2021
I can't control myself
And the feelings that I've never shown
Like a wild stallion never to be tamed
And forced to roam the earth alone

No I never thought
That I could ever be
Someone's Christmas present
Held in your captivity

Wild hearts can't be broken
But right now I'm feeling blue
You can lead a horse to water
But he won't drink when he's missing you

So I think im gonna live my life
Thinking about everything I left behind
Dreaming about a place ill never see
And people I'll never love thats kind

And I think im gonna run away
And maybe eat my weight in hay
Cursing those people
That make us out to be purses
I think im going to live like horses

I can get mean
If you stand too close to me
It's just in my nature don't be alarmed
Because like you I have a broken heart

Deep down I really want to feel
My ribs getting hurt by a thousand heels
And somewhere to get myself warm
When nights gets cold

Life is never easy
When it's only you in the field
New horses come around
But they don't feel how I feel

So I think im gonna live my life
Thinking about everything I left behind
Dreaming about a place ill never see
And people I'll never love thats so kind

And I think im gonna run away
And maybe eat my weight in hay
Cursing those people
That make us out to be purses
I think im going to live like horses

Baltimore
Hank Love Nov 2020
In the old town of Baltimore,
Where the Wild Things grow
Sits a lowly Raven,
Looking over the people below.
Perched on a sill, ever so still
Waiting for him to return,
Desperately calling his master
As the lanterns continue to burn.
He speaks with the dead,
And stands in the shadows,
Listens to birds while they sing,
As the chambers of his lonely heart,
Are ever so emptying.
The Raven, paitently waiting,
Making no steps nor a sound,
Faithful obedient servant,
Friend, eternally Earthbound.
Hear of this creature,
His song is his story,
About the one who was Lost,
This man they called him Poe,
While his name, the rest of the world forgot.
The man dressed in black
We wait to come back,
And bid his children well.
Through the many years of his wisdom,
Is a place we enjoy to dwell.
He calls to the villians to do his bidding
The Children of the night,
As terror takes away the feeling
Of days ever so warm and bright.
"Dessemble you creatures,
Evil and tyrant,
The night is ever so young,
Let's raise our mugs,
You thieves and thugs,
As we wait for him to come."
That is the story
Of the mysterious Raven
Who's been there since time began,
Wandering this Earth for Centuries,
Searching for this Immortal Man.
To this day we light our candles
The night is so black,
Waiting for our Master,
In hopes he'll find his way back.

Lucky Me!
Hank Love Jun 2020
What I did is mixed superstition from all over the world and put it into one humoured poem.

I have always had a thing for Luck.
I try to walk under one or two ladders
A day, if possible.
It's been rather lonely since my shadow
Stopped coming around.
I used to see him once a day or so.
My reflection has started giving me
The silent treatment
After I broke his heart.
I hear the city is repaving
The sidewalk cracks
My mother will be so relieved!
The black alley cat
Found his way back home,
So I am alone.
Except for my thirteen friends
Who only visit me on a Friday night.
I'm a little upset though
Because one of them spilled the pepper
And The bread I was fixing to eat
Fell on the floor upside down.
Nothing is going my way,
I've lost my keys
I could have sworn they were on the table.
My German friend is great
He never fails to wish me a happy birthday
Although it is still a few months away.
Yes sir, life is funny sometimes.
Lucky me!

To the Wave
Hank Love Apr 2020
Fair water, still
In thine own purest flow
The clear, refreshing river
An emblem of the brightest glow

A hidden beauty
Soiled by human hands
Thy waters run deep and true
Onto distant lands!

You keep the memory still
Within thine frozen heart
And in the wave you resemble
A truest work of art!

For in my eye
I will gaze upon your splendour
And there I shall find-in moments time
Your calm and sweet surrender!

Do I really want to fully figure out
What life is all about?

Not really. Why?

It would take away the rest of the mystery.

If I figured out what I want to do in life,

I wouldn't have time to make new dreams.

Daddy Dean
Hank Love Jan 2020
Theres an empty chair
At the head of the table
I know who used to sit there
A man so strong and able

They called him Dean
They called him a good man
Who never made enough
Who never owned his own land
They said he loved his family
Through the good times
And the bad
This man they called him Dean
But I only knew him as Dad

Theres an empty recliner
In the corner of the room
I can still smell
The smoke of a cigarette
In the air its sweet perfume
I can hear his music playing low
God you know what you're doing
But did he really have to go

They called him Dean
They called him a good man
Who never made enough
Who never owned his own land
They said he loved his family
Through the good times
And the bad
This man they called him Dean
But I only knew him as Dad

It makes sense.
Words complete a sentence.
We often think about people in our life.
Who will be in our future
And who will be left behind.
The future is exciting because
We'll be just as surprised w
By what will happen.
It has unpredictable timing
And that is what makes it remarkable.
But The Future is a Gentlemen.
It gives us enough time and waits for us
To decide what we do with it.

Fly Away
Hank Love Jun 2020
Fly away
You're destined for greater things
No prison bars hold their charm
Nothing left to make you stay

Onto greener pastures
And hilltops high
Into the great unknown
Much greater, much greater than I

You were meant to lead
Not to follow
You're an eagle
Not a sparrow
Soaring into a bright new day
Learn to fly, spread your wings
And leave the world behind
Fly high away, eagle fly

You were meant to lead
Not to follow
You're an eagle
Not a sparrow
Soaring into a bright new day
Learn to fly, spread your wings
And leave the world behind
Fly high away, eagle fly

Another Saturday
Hank Love Feb 2020
Well the same thing happens
On a Saturday
The bar on the corner is full
And theres always a fight
Real late at night
After a friendly game of pool

The men always come here lonely
But they never go home alone
Cause over their shoulder
Is a woman getting older
Who can't get by on her own

And it's another Saturday night
They say it's all fun and games
Yes they get crazy and have
The time of their lives
But a frown never leaves their face

Now across the bar
Is another man
Who comes here to pass the time
Cause he's sad when he drinks
And he starts to think
About the girl he left far behind

And it's another Saturday night
They say it's all fun and games
Yes they get crazy and have
The time of their lives
But a frown never leaves their face

I passed a man
On the street today.
He said Hello
But not his name.

I went to the cemetery
With respects to pay
This is the second time
I saw this man that day.

He'd been there a while
It was easy to tell.
Such a strange place
Where someone would dwell.

I said Hello,
But no answer he gave.
Though I learned his name
When I looked at his grave.

Of my lover's screams
In sickness and of plight.

To rid these dreams

And each moment of poisoned thought,
I find despair, no comfort there
And no greater anguish my soul has brot

If You Were Me
Hank Love Mar 2020
What would you do
If you were me?
How many mouths
Would you try to feed
Would you walk on water
To rescue those in need
What would you do
If you were me?

What would you say
About these times
Would you cross over the lines
And put down their signs
Would you make darkness hide
And let your light shine
What would you say
About these times?

Because I'm trying Lord
But I'm just a man
I could use a word from you
To tell me what you had planned
Do they know we're there
Do they know we care?
Help me to see
Everything I'm called to be
What would you do
If you were me

You've done it all
I've heard before
You forgave the rich
And you loved the poor
And they were so amazed
When you calmed the storm
You've done it all
I've heard before

I've heard the story
A thousand times
The lame could walk
And He once was blind
But there's still one thing
I dont realize
Why you would die
When the debt was mine
I've heard the story
A thousand times

Because I'm trying Lord
But I'm just a man
I could use a word from you
To tell me what you had planned
Do they know we're there
Do they know we care?
Help me to see
Everything I'm called to be

Elevator Talk
Hank Love Mar 20
Well I looked in the mirror
Hoping to see a friendly face
He was a stranger like me
In an unfamiliar place

I said "hello how are you doing"
He said "I won't tell you no lies
I don't know who I am anymore"
And I started to cry

Cause I'm standing here
Talking to myself again
Turning to another stranger
Trying to find a friend
Good Lord I don't know what I'm doing
God knows I've tried
But it looks like more elevator talk
Between him and I

I saw that man again today
Standing in a puddle on a stormy day
I asked him what he's doing Why he's out in the rain
He said the drops on his face helps him hide the pain

Cause I'm standing here
Talking to myself again
Turning to another stranger
Trying to find a friend
Good Lord I don't know what I'm doing
God knows I've tried
But it looks like more elevator talk
Between him and I

Bad news on the horizon
Another penny turning up
When life pulls you under
And you think you've had enough

Just keep your body moving
When your scared to see another day
And your giving what you got now
Make it through another way

It gets a little lonely
Yeah it all gets to be too much
They kick you when your feelin down
When all you need is a tender touch

It's a human thing
Pressing down ******* you
It's a human thing
Baby what you're going through
It's a human thing
Pressing down ******* you
Just a human thing
Let's see what you can do

When you ain't got nobody
Life can get so cold
And you hear the rolling thunder
It gets just a little too old

Yeah it's hard to keep moving
Standing out in a crowd
And you need a hand to help you
There's plenty of us around

It gets a little lonely
Yeah it all gets to be too much
They kick you when your feelin down
When all you need is a tender touch

It's a human thing

His Name is Thomas
Hank Love Jan 2020
Thomas was a poor man
He never had much money
You never saw his name
On the front page
He blessed his crops three times a day
He said I know someone up there
Must like me but I can't imagine why

Thomas is a good man
A good name too
Some might say
It comes from the bible anyway
The lands no good
And it's all dried up by now
But he picks up his cross
And a bag of soil
And goes back to the plow

He was born to a tailor
He always got trousers
On Christmas day
He spent his days
Praying through the knees
As he wiped the leaves away

Thomas is a good man
A good name too
Some might say
It comes from the bible anyway
The lands no good
And it's all dried up by now
But he picks up his cross
And a bag of soil
And goes back to the plow

The Show Must Go On
Hank Love Jul 14
I see you crying
Thinking it's the final straw
Wondering if you have it in you
Before the final curtain call

You ask yourself if this is worth it
The makeup and the masquerades
Entertaining all these people
Underneath the lights with a pretty face

Close your eyes
Even the brightest stars
Can't be seen sometimes

The show must go on
It's not the time to take a bow
The show must go on
Even though you wonder how
Take a breath it's okay
If you make mistakes
That's what we do
In this business we call life
We live and learn it's not too late
The show must go on

I can tell your nervous
Like you've got something to prove
You walk out there trying not to fall
Trying so hard not to play a fool

Well yes it's tough
But the best things don't come free
Nothing worth it is ever easy
If it was imagine what the world would be

Take your time
You've still got
The rest of your life

But The show must go on
It's not the time to take a bow
The show must go on
Even though you wonder how
Take a breath it's okay
If you make mistakes
That's what we do
In this business we call life
We live and learn it's not too late
The show must go on

The Flower
Hank Love Nov 2020
It was the spring,
And it was love.
I was well of age
But remained a child
When it came to matters of love.
We spent our days
In the aroma
Of the greenest fields
Surrounded by the most
Well groomed flowers.
I had picked a flower for her that day.
The blossom in her hair
Has become a daily
Photograph in my mind.
The flower served as example.
For the reason that everything fades.
The flower, the spring, and love.
But also that whatever dies,
New life comes about.
There will always be
Another flower to be picked,
The spring shall come again,
And love is eternal.

Friends
Hank Love Jan 2020
I hope the stars
Shine brighter than the headlights
Where friends can be found
On every turn
That the Lord is with you
Down the road you're on
And may you cross a bridge
Before its burned

Because friends are there
For the world to see
Life is easier with a hand in reach
A friend to have when the nights grow Cold
Someone there when the road is long

It seems a shame
That friendship should end
After every mile together we spent
But life turns the page
And we go our ways
It sounds absurd
To let it slip away

Because friends are there
For the world to see
Life is easier with a hand in reach
A friend to have when the nights grow Cold
Someone there when the road is long

Have we just faded
Into the winds of time
Searching for a new tomorrow
And dying as the setting sun
That once glistened as embers
Now wroghts in the anguish
Of what  was
And what is still to be.
May we look to the time
As we were children and laugh.
With a laughter that will forever
Surround each other  with love.

Closed Doors
Hank Love Jul 5
Your love spreads
Just like a cancer
And it's killing me
To wish it away

Your love burns
Just Like a fire
And it destroys everything
That's ever in it's way

So you can say
"Woe is me
Enough is enough
And it's time to leave"
But when push comes to shove
When I've finally had enough
Tell me do you have a clue
Whos going to be there waiting
To open closed doors for you?

You play a good part
As the hero
But you never tell
The story true

Your friends all
Know my name
I guess you've got
A good thing going for you

So you can say
"Woe is me
Enough is enough
And it's time to leave"
But when push comes to shove
When I've finally had enough
Tell me do you have a clue
Whos going to be there waiting
To open closed doors for you?

A Pitbulls Prayer
Hank Love Jul 2020
Mom and dad put me in a cage
But there is still enough room
To run around and play

The neighbors dog
Plays a little too rough
Everyone watches
And thinks I'm tough

They put a collar on me
And I think it's really cool
I guess they put spikes around it
Because they can't afford any jewels

But they can afford a sign just fine
And I think it's kind of mean
"Beware of Dog," it says
But the only dog that's here is me

They clipped my ears the other day
But I couldn't tell you why
It really hurt when it happened
And nearly made me cry

I wonder what theyll cut off next
My tail or something else?
But I love my mom and I love my dad
More than I love myself

I got put to sleep today
Because they thought that I was bad
All because a child hit me
So I hit him back

I promise I was a good dog
I couldn't even hurt a fly
I just wished they loved me
I just wish that I knew why

I'm in a better place
Where you play ball every day
Running wild through the fields
Enjoying the smell of hay

The people here treat me better
But I miss mine all the time
I am happy so don't be sad
That I had to say goodbye

Some people think its a book
That its just an old wives tale
But they don't know
What you went through
To save my soul from hell

But I know you moved the mountains
And I know you calmed the seas
Just because God loved me

Some people think youre an idol
A fire burning in the night
Some people are in denial
Even though they've seen you
With their eyes

But I know you're coming
Lord I know you're coming soon

And im ready, im waiting
For loves warm embrace
I'm seeking, im praying
To see a smile on your face
When you call me,
When you take me home
And you tell me that I am your own

Sometimes I make mistakes
And somewhere I've drawn the line
But I'm human what can i say
And I'm built by your design

I know you made me in your image
And I know you already knew my name
And You take away my blame

And im ready, im waiting
For loves warm embrace
I'm seeking, im praying
To see a smile on your face
When you call me,
When you take me home
And you tell me that I am your own

Yeah

O Maria,
Through the misted fog
Indeed I come.
Shrouded by the wretched smell
Of twenty shipmates
Lying, dying,
Beating, hating,
Praying it's not too late, Maria!

And a thousand men
Cannot save thine soul
On the waves against the storming tide
Thou will watch as I return!

Do you hear it? That sound.
That deafening sound.
That GHASTLY unnerving sound!
Is it the clock which mocks
Every last beat of my heart? No.
Is the sound a Shrill
A cry or moan?
A sound that I know
Well enough alone? No!
What is the sound
Which I must - I MUST drown?
Oh God in Heaven!
What is that unhindered noise?
Is there none to rid that horrid tone?
The tone which
Makes all madness known?
The sound that drives a good man mad
The noise that to my misery add?
What is the theme
That brings me to screams
But SILENCE?

If They Saw Me

Here comes another way
For them to break me down
Here comes another day
Another chance to wear the crown
Here comes another day
For them to break my walls
It's the only thing
Protecting what's left of my heart

But I'm not that different
I'm not so unjustified
Theres not much to compare
Between you and I

When will they see
When will they learn
Why don't they build
Instead of burn
Would they see me
If I was the last one standing there
Would they pass me by
Would they care
If they saw me

One more wish
For one more day
One more try
To find my way
I can get by
On my own
With just my bag
And a heart of stone

But I'm not that different
I'm not so unjustified
Theres not much to compare
Between you and I

When will they see
When will they learn
Why don't they build
Instead of burn
Would they see me
If I was the last one standing there
Would they pass me by
Would they care
If they saw me

They're so afraid
To see what I can be
Would they think differently
If they met the real me
Underneath this rough
And weary ***
There's a heart
That wants to learn to love

When will they see
When will they learn
Why don't they build
Instead of burn
Would they see me
If I was the last one standing there
Would they pass me by
Would they care
If they saw me

That I know nothing about.
Regarding a deaf man
Who was sure he heard a sound.
Now you could go
And ask the blind man
Because he saw it happen.
It even woke the dead woman
While she was busy napping.
What a sound, such a sight!
Under the sun on that starry night.

But I can't tell you anything about it

Keep moving forward

You dont have to see the lights
Dont pay attention to the virus
Just close your eyes tonight

Tomorrow will come on its own
But for now just rest your head
You have your own carousel
Spinning around above your bed

You don't know a thing about the violence
Something so pure can't understand
And when you grow I hope you know
That you will always have a place
To make your stand

Today was the first day
Of the rest of your life
And tomorrow will be the same way
Dream a dream so soft and sweet
About a world thats better than today

Hush little baby
And don't you cry
The sun will shine again
When you're in darkness
There's always light
And in the cold
There's warmer days ahead

Sleep my child sleep
And mothers don't you weep
And fathers, oh fathers make sure you know
That this child needs the rain
For his dreams to grow

This prayer is for you my son
And I know one day you'll understand
That you will turn from a boy having fun
To a man, a good good man

Hush little baby
And don't you cry
The sun will shine again
When you're in darkness
There's always light
And in the cold
There's warmer days ahead

Farewell Music
Hank Love Feb 2020
I'd sit alone
And read the times
Those old time stars
Burned out tonight

And all I needed
Was someone there
To let me know
They really care

We've watched and waited
We've seen them all
The bigger they are
The harder they fall

We won't forget you
Dear old friend
Like all good things
They come to an end

So say Goodbye
But we'll still miss you
When the music now
Makes us feel blue

Your time has come
Your moments here
The curtains close
It's another year

You had your chance
You had your time
You made us dance
You made us cry

I'd drive around
Throughout the night
With a pretty girl
Who treat me right

All alone
No where to go
And no one was talking
But my radio

Your time has come
The moments here
To say Goodbye
To all the years

You had your chance
You had your time
You made us dance
You made us cry

You made us all
Believe in Love
You pushed us on
When we had enough

Writeif nothing comes to mind.
"That's because you gave up
While you were ahead.
You thought you had
All the time in the world to do it in.
But today's words
Will be tomorrow's reminder."

Kind stranger!
How convenient we should meet
While fate has taken matters for its own
You must seek what I have found
And you tread on familiar ground
In another world I know your face
A time before in a different place
Where I was, you were not present
And who I am, you one day will be.

Me, Myself and I
Hank Love Apr 2020
I got bored trying to **** time.

The Doctor will be here soon.
I just have to wait a few more days.
"Hes not coming for you." Shut up!
He's got my discharge papers.
He'll sign them, and I'll get to go home!
I get to leave! He promised.
"You're not getting out of here." AHH!
You know, being in here for a few days,
I thought I'd go a little crazy.
But what's three days shy of ten years?
Look at me! Have you seen
What darkness does to a person?
It makes them mad.
My friends aren't with me anymore.
They got well. But I'm not alone.
Hey buddy. Are you my friend?
Why are you saying
The same thing that I'm saying?
Stop staring at me!
Ten years is a long time
When the only people you talk to
Are the ones that aren't even there?
"We're here." Go Away!
I'm ready to go doctor.
What? What do you mean
Mentally unstable?
What do you mean I have to stay?
No! You promised me! You lied to me!
"Why did you **** him?" Shut up!
"He had your papers." Leave me alone!
"You're never getting out of here now."
*******! *******! Empty promises!
"You belong to us." AHH!
"Say Hello to the nice people."
I don't wanna! I don't wanna!
I don't wanna! I don't wanna!

I'm sorry....Have I said something?

Believe
Hank Love Feb 2020
May you always know
Who you have over your shoulder
May you have a hand to hold
When nights get colder
May you always give more
Than you receive
May you always believe

That theres still hope for the world
Remember all the young boys and girls
And the people on the streets
That you passed by today
Be a light in the dark
Let our love be the spark
To let them know that everything is okay
If we want to see tomorrow
It starts with us today

May you always have
A reason to live
May you always forgive
When its hard to forget
May you always be kind
To the end of the final stone
May you always be a friend
To those in need
May you always believe

That theres still hope for the world
Remember all the young boys and girls
And the people on the streets
That you passed by today
Be a light in the dark
Let our love be the spark
To let them know that
Everything is okay
If we want to see tomorrow
It starts with us today

Must I pretend
That I have no will
For such a rhyme to be penned?
What to do? Woe is me!
Shall I torment my thoughts longer,
Or shall I flee?
For what then,
Has life for me, set aside?
What for me, will life provide?
My passion is only found in dreams!
Such a place
To satisfy my means!
And it is by no means
That I should put away these dreams
For what more is life better served
Than dreams?

I'm not a man of many friends,
I'm a man surrounded by people
Who appreciate my existence
As much as I do theirs.

The way to love someone with anxiety is to accept the apologies that are not there to be forgiven.

Look Out World
Hank Love Feb 2020
Tonight I'm gonna
Have myself a ball
I'm feeling crazy
And I dont care at all

I might be the only one drinking
Maybe I'm a bit too loud but it's all right
Look out world don't try to stop me now
Its Saturday night and I'm coming alive

I'm floating on air
Walking on a thin line
And I feel ecstacy
Swimming through my veins

There's no stopping me
Cause I'm on cloud nine
And I'm gonna have
A real good time today

I've been running on fumes
Most of my life
Ive Never asked
This world for much

But tonight
It's all about me
I'm not gonna stop
Until I get enough

I'm feeling so high
I never wanna come down
I kind of like it
Up here in space

Yes I'm a shooting star
Shooting up the sky
And I'll never be
In one place

I'm floating on air
Walking on a thin line
And I feel ecstacy
Swimming through my veins

There's no stopping me
When I'm on cloud nine
And I'm gonna have
A real good time today
