Ah you can have some fun
And do the jitterbug
But you can never
Get enough of

The long way down
They call it the long way down
The long way down
Gather round and do the long way down

Well now "The twist" is over
And summers gone
Just "stroll" on over
You dont belong

It's now the long way down
Yeah they call it the long way down
Ths long way down
Come on now and learn the long way down

(Heres how it goes now)

A new dance
Has made its way
You shake your hips
Both night and day
You shake your knees
Drop to the floor
Jump back up
And wiggle more

You do the long way down
You got it baby do the long way down
The long way down
Now you're doing the long way down

Now I know the hop
Was out of sight
With a girl
Who treat you right

This is the long way down
Shes doing the long way down
The long way down
Come on boy do the long way down

I ain't talking bout no "twist"
That kind of dance gives me the fits
This ain't no "mess around"
Everybody's doing the long way down

What game would have such an impact on a man's own soul?

"Life."

My dearest love
Where are you bound?
Stay and hear
My dismal song so pure!

Is it by fate
We are drawn together?
By no means!
For fate alone cannot endure

Tho as long as you have captivated
My soul in dreaming
My eyes enchanted by maiden fair

I beseech you look no further
To gander at love as no other
For you will find
Nothing there!

What is love?
A forbearance tried tho true!
Where is love if not the present
An emotion grand and Heaven sent
Stay and hear the rhythm
Of my heart
That beats for you!

Was it cold
Standing in his shadow
No hand to hold
Praying for tomorrow
Things get better
Than they were the day before
Did your arms get tired
From picking yourself
Up off the floor

Did you ever have dreams
To run away
To start a new life
In another place
With a different name
This great big world
Has so many roads to choose
Until you turn around
And realize it's only you

Shes a woman
In a man's world
A mother and a warrior
But she's still
Daddy's little girl
She's a woman
Trying to make her way
Looking through the window
And waiting for the day

Did you ever think of me
Did you ever see me passing by
Could you see the stars
When you looked
Through the window at night

I hope there comes a day
When your free to make a choice
I hope you're doing fine
But I'd love to hear your voice

Shes a woman
In a man's world
A mother and a warrior
But she's still
Daddy's little girl
She's a woman
Trying to make her way
Looking through the window
And waiting for the day

When I think of those New York lights
Friday nights
Taking a stroll
Through the city streets alone
The days are never warm
And the people are cold
Sitting there freezing looking for a hand to hold
It's gotten a little crazy
You can hear it on the news every day

The lights dont shine
As bright as they say
In New York City
And a rose can't grow
Between the sidewalk cracks
The marquee won't save your soul
And once you sell it
You can never have it back

I never realized the passing faces
Of different races
Walking down the Avenue every day
Captivated by the different sounds
The rumours around
The city that never sleeps
At least that's what they say

The lights dont shine
As bright as they say
In New York City
And a rose can't grow
Between the sidewalk cracks
The marquee won't save your soul
And once you sell it
You can never have it back

Release your hold from me
Turn me loose and let me fly
Over hilltops green
I'll soar with wings on High
The world below me
Is a picture frame
While I'm in a place
Where everyone knows my name

I have a home
On the other side of the skyline
Saying Goodbye
To a life I never knew
Birds like me are meant to fly
Towards a place
That's much bigger than I
Just on the other side
Of the skyline
There's a world I've never seen
With smiling faces
The grass is always green
On the other side

My eyes that look like yours
Are two great mirrors
To turn the pages
And open doors
May there always be wind in your trees
And the stars to light your way
I hope there's a breeze in your sails
With the smell of a bright new day
I can't tell you anything
That you don't already know
I have a home in the sky
And the bible tells you so

I have a home
On the other side of the skyline
Saying Goodbye
To a life I never knew
Birds like me are meant to fly
Towards a place
That's much bigger than I
Just on the other side
Of the skyline
There's a world I've never seen
With smiling faces
The grass is always green
On the other side
